Archive for May, 2007

After being a lazy ass for way too long, I have finally updated the store categories, Pre-orders and New Releases. I hope to update them every couple of weeks so that they remain current.

While doing this, I decided to add a new category for Exclusive Releases which will contain Suburban Home/Vinyl Collective in house vinyl releases.

I am thinking about adding a category possibly called Essential which would contain vinyl releases that through your suggestions feature are considered absolutely legendary. What do you think? While on this topic, do you think our store needs any other categories?

We just got in a bunch of restocks including colored vinyl from Minus the Bear for “Highly Refined Pirates”. The vinyl is on what my wife calls Jade Green Marble. Other restocks inlclude Minus the Bear “Menos El Oso”, Headphones, Hella, and 7″s by Elliott Smith, Of Montreal, Russian Circles, Modest Mouse, Black Mountain, Unicorns, and These Arms are Snakes.

If you don’t own all of the Minus the Bear albums on vinyl, your record collection is in serious need for an upgrade! Soon we will be posting a pre-order for “Planet of Ice” from Minus the Bear which could be my new favorite album!

FAKE PROBLEMS “How Far Our Bodies Go” LP

Fake Problems release their first album for Sabot. This vinyl version is a pre-order and at this point, I don’t have an exact date. This band is great and if you are a fan of Against Me or most of what comes out on No Idea, I recommend you pick this up.

CHUCK RAGAN “Los Feliz” LP

Chuck Ragan’s first album on vinyl. I dont’ have an exact date on when we will be getting these in, but it should be soon. I will get a date and post it soon. I am sure this first pressing will sell out quickly and I am certain it will be on colored vinyl.

Not sure if you heard the new album, but it is very good. Highly recommended.

Rocky Votolato “Makers” LP

I did a trade with a label in Germany who pressed the only vinyl version of “Makers”, my favorite Rocky Votolato release. I have 11 copies coming in sometime this next week and I want to offer them to you. This is an amazing album and the LP is limited to 1,000 copies. Rocky’s other LPs are mostly out of print and I suspect this one will be soon. I can’t wait to hear “White Daisy Passing” on wax!

We just got in another order and this time, we were able to restock titles by Dillinger Four, Horrorpops, Of Montreal, Elliott Smith, Tiger Army, Tom Waits, Face to Face, The Faint, My Bloody Valentine, and Reggie and the Full Effect.

I would like to personally recommend Dillinger Four “Midwestern Songs of the Americas” if you dont’ already own it. Great punk rock that sounds so good on vinyl. All of the restocks are great titles, but that one, man oh man!

Just got in an order today and in it were restocks of Bright Eyes, Exploding Hearts, Jenny Lewis, Horrorpops, Death Cab for Cutie, Faint, Motion City Soundtrack, Peeping Tom, and Cursive.

BIRD, ANDREW “Armchair Apocrypha” LP

I must admit that this latest Andrew Bird album was my first exposure to this up and coming singer/songwriter. This new album is on my tops of 2007 so far list and if you favor well-written, quirky indie-rock, you too will love this album.

ARCADE FIRE “NEON BIBLE” 2xLP

ARCADE FIRE “Keep The Car Running” 7″

I had my doubts that “Neon Bible” would hold up to their last album and when I started listening, my doubt turned into surprise as this album not only holds up, but I might favor this one. The vinyl version of this incredible album is now available and we just got in the first 7″s single from the album, “Keep the Car Running”.

JAWBREAKER “24 hour revenge therapy” LP

When I saw this in one of my distributor’s listings, I jumped at the chance to carry this landmark title. I can say without hesitation that without Jawbreaker there would not be bands like Hot Water Music or the Get Up Kids or half of your favorite punk/emo bands out there. I struggle with calling this Jawbreaker my favorite as “Dear You” is in tough competition with this album. Either way, this album is absolutely essential and if you don’t already own it, you have to stop doing everything else you are doing right now and pick up this album.
