Vinyl Collective Collector of the Month: Waranyu Siriaorop
Posted by virgil under News, Vinyl Collective

My first dealing with Waranyu was when there was a misunderstanding about a purchase made on the Vinyl Collective site. Waranyu is from Thailand and honestly, we have run into so much fraud from orders from that Country and more times than not, we just ignore the orders from Thailand as they are almost always done with stolen credit cards. We made a goof-up with Waranyu’s order as most fraudulent transactions have U.S. billing addresses and Thailand shipping addresses and the few times we did ship them, the purchases came back to bite us in the ass. We originally wrote off Waranyu’s order as one of these transactions, but months went by and we received an email from Waranyu asking if the order was sent. We took another look at the order and realized that it had a Thailand billing address and a U.S. ship to address and we sent the order.
We have since had the pleasure of interacting with Waranyu on our Message Board who is better known as xlovecolouredx. xlovecloouredx is one of our most frequent contributors and when put up to a vote recently, Waranyu was picked by the message board to be our next Vinyl Collector of the Month.
Thanks Waranyu for taking the time to answer our questions and thanks so much for your support of Vinyl collective.
VC: Your name and the city you live in.
WS: I’m Waranyu Sirikaorop, you can call me “Yu”, I’m from Bangkok, Thailand.
VC: How many records do you own ?
WS: Only 214 LPs. I have not much for 7” because the shipping cost of 7” is cheaper than LP just a bit. I’m quite a lucky collector since I have friends in the states who normally help me hand carry some vinyls when they are back here. Normally I do order vinyls through IndyPop which is a distributor of Fat Wreck Chords,Epitaph,Hell Cat,Prosthetic,Trustkill,Ferret ,Equal Vision and Revelation. Especailly order the indy labal release which distributed by RevHQ.
VC: Why do you collect vinyl ?
WS: Because of cover art and colour of limited edition vinyl. Picture disc vinyl is my favourite kind of vinyl but it doesn’t mean I like all of my pic disc. I bought some of ‘em because I like the music not its pic disc, e.g. all of Sublime’s picture disc.
VC: What is your most prized record in your collection ?
WS: For me, all vinyls is my most prized record coz nomally I always think very carefully everytime when I buy a record. ( Maybe all vinyls which my girlfriends bought for me when she lived in London,UK. Most of ‘em are all singles of My Chemical Romance coz this is her favourite band.)
VC: What release would you like to see come out on vinyl that hasn’t yet been released ?
WS: It is hard to answer now coz I have been thinking about this for a week but still no idea. I will make a thread if I could think it out….
Hurrrr ! It might be a box set of Indecision or the Suicide Machines coz they are my favourite bands all the time (Apart from Converge,Planes Mistaken For Stars and Sublime)
VC: What is the most you have spent for a record ?
WS: 166.75 USD for Red Jane Doe not included shipping cost (forget!), I have never thought that I would buy a record which cost more than 50 US$ coz I’m only a crappy poor furniture designer.
What out of print record would you kill to own ?
Right now maybe none.
VC: Your last 5 record that you purchased ?
WS: Coliseum : No Salvation (2 colours from Auxiliary)
Modern Life is War : Midnight in America (3 colours from Lifeline)
Die Young : The Message (3 colours from Surprise Attack)
Cold World : No Omega (3 colours from Nineteen Seventeen)
Hope Conspiracy : Death Knows Your Name (2nd press from RevHQ)

Excellent interview! And a Suicide Machines box set would be AWESOME, too.

Great interview, but why is she shaking that Jane Doe in the picture. Treat her nicely.

seems like a solid dude. i know as for us in the US….we are spoiled when it comes to vinyl. i cant even imagine what Yu must deal with just to get records. i have a lot of respect for that. not only as a collector but also seeing that you do what you have to do to get what you want. well deserved and congrats to Yu!
