Wired recently published a piece called, “Vinyl May Be Final Nail in CD’s Coffin”. It is an interesting look at Vinyl’s recent rise in popularity which has become a hot topic amongst various publications. Since this piece ran on Monday, I have had at least a dozen links to the story forwarded to me. I would like to offer my own thoughts on the post.

Our good friend, Mike Park, at Asian Man Records has been so kind to offer us an exclusive color of the upcoming Alkaline Trio “Goddamnit” vinyl that you won’t be able to get anywhere else. When we were discussing this, I suggested we let the fine folks from our Vinyl Collective message board help choose the color.

So for the rest of the week, I will be taking suggestions for colors. If you have a good idea, let us know.

“Goddamnit” will be available in March of next year and will be released on 6 different colors (500 of each) and the copies will come with a DVD. The album will have all new artwork, was remixed and remastered. It should be super sweet!

So you might be wondering why I am only now sharing photos of the test pressings we got done for Minus the Bear’s “Planet of Ice”. You see, I had one friend make silk-screened covers and then I had a friend offer to make a unique painting for each test press. Who was I to say no? I actually presented 6 test pressings to the band last night when they were in Denver and it seemed as though they were absolutely blown away. I really can’t say enough about how nice the guys in Minus the Bear are. I mean, a band at their level could be complete assholes and there are tons of bands nowhere near their level that are. But the guys were so appreciative that we have been doing their vinyl and the truth is, it is such an honor to be a part of such an unbelievable band.

Enough ranting, I took photos of all 20 test pressings to share with you. I do plan on selling 1 or 2 most likely through Ebay, but most of the copies are going to the band, to their management, to Suicide Squeeze and a few are going to my son Logan’s college fund!

A quick desription, the record labels are each hand numbered, the silk-screened jackets are each hand-numbered, and each one comes with a completely unique painting done my good buddy Vinnie Fasano. These turned out so sweet.

Me First And The Gimme Gimmes “Cash” 7″ Ring Of Fire Red vinyl 

So somehow (I blame Britney Spears), I did not get an email notifying me about the Me First and the Gimme Gimmes “Cash” 7″ and only found out about it from you fine folks on the message board. I emailed my rep who said they were completely sold out, but because he is such a rad dude, he pulled some for me. Note that we have far fewer than we had of the Dolly 7″ so I expect this to sell out in about an hour. Have at it and good luck.

When I went back in time last week and brought out all these old Victory titles, you all responded very favorably. I tried to re-order a bunch of the stuff that sold out quickly and only got some of them. I will keep trying to get more Strife, Grey Area, Snapcase, Catch 22, and Between the Buried and Me. make sure you jump on Keasby Nights because I am not sure how many are left. And also, I was told that “Where You Want to Be” is almost out of print so if you don’t have it and you want it, get it!

Since downsizing our operations earlier this year, we have been really careful about every financial decision. Steph and I have taught ourselves to do the jobs previously done by 8 people. Due to the rapid growth of Vinyl Collective, we find ourselves in the position where we absolutely need some help. We are looking to hire someone part-time and we would really prefer to hire someone that is a student (high school or college). We would like to find someone who could work pretty much every day of the week in the afternoons (2 to 5, 3 to 6 or somewhere there abouts).

Your job duties would include the following:

• Packaging Mailorder
• Taking Mail to the Post Office
• Receiving distributor orders
• Packaging wholesale orders
• Packaging promotional mailouts
• Getting items from our storage spaces
• having computer skills would be an added bonus as we could use help adding new titles to the Vinyl Collective store

We are looking for someone who is organized and detail-oriented. Having a vehicle is a must. Understand that our “offices” are in our house which is located in Edgewater (in between Lakewood and Wheatridge, 15 minutes from downtown denver). As the holidays approach, there is also chance that this position may become full-time.
Having a passion for independent music and vinyl is crucial.

We just got 3 boxes full of No Idea goodness over the same weekend that our friends in Gainesville put on the 6th edition of the Fest. I am bummed I could not be down for it, but getting a ton of new and restocked NO Idea releases was a nice consolation prize.
