Vinyl Collective Collector of the Month: Adam Green
Posted by virgil under News, Vinyl Collective

I am excited to share with you our November Collector of the Month, Adam Green. Adam has been one of our biggest supporters since starting Vinyl Collective and through our many dealings, we have exchanged a number of emails. Being a proud parent, I was especially excited to hear that Adam and his wife were expecting their first child. And I think what sealed the deal for me for Adam being our next COTM was the fact that Adam placed a couple of orders the week that his wife was scheduled for a C-section, something my wife would have killed me for. Elizabeth Green (photographed wearing our very own Suburban Home baby hoodie) was born on 9/20/07 at 2:17 in the morning. Congratulations Greens for the birth of your beautiful daugther and congrats Adam for being our November Vinyl Collector of the Month. Thanks also for all the support.
VC: Your name and the city you live in.
Adam: My name is Adam Green and I am currently living in Valencia, CA.
VC: How many records do you own?
Adam: At the moment I own just over 1500 records.
VC: Why do you collect vinyl?
Adam: I collect vinyl for a number of reasons. First of all, I love the large artwork and the variety of packaging offered for the vinyl format. There is just no comparison between a 5″ cd booklet in a plastic case and a double gatefold LP with beautiful artwork and heavyweight, color vinyl. Also, most vinyl releases that I buy are limited editions, which make collecting them fun. Especially with hand-numbered releases… it is something personal. Someone took the time to number each record, which is much more meaningful than some mass produced cd with a barcode. I enjoy reading message boards and hunting around for rare records and new releases. I still buy cds for the convenience; since I do a lot of driving, I need cds for my car. But as we all know, when it comes to sound quality, you just can’t beat vinyl.
VC: What is your most prized record in your collection?
Adam: That’s a tough one. I don’t think I could narrow it down to just one. Of course I cherish all my test presses and metal plates. But there are many others that I prize just as much as the tests, whether they are limited editions and/or colored vinyl. However, there are 3 collections I have that are most important to me. My Dwarves collection is probably the most complete one I own. However, my Rancid and Operation Ivy collections are fairly complete as well. Rancid is the band that got me into punk rock, so I will always love their vinyl.
VC: What release would you like to see come out on vinyl that hasn’t yet been released?
Adam: Tim Armstrong’s new Solo Project, A Poet’s Life, would sound awesome on vinyl. And I am not sure why it was only released on cd/mp3. At least the cd came with a dvd with videos for each song (although everything is available for free online).
VC: What is the most you have spent for a record?
Adam: Some of my Dwarves test presses have cost me quite a bit on eBay. There is another Dwarves collector who usually bids on the rare Dwarves items, so I usually end up spending more than I really should be. Let’s just say it’s in the couple hundred dollar range.
VC: What out of print record would you kill to own?
Adam: Well, probably on the top of my list would have to be an Operation Ivy 7″. The East Bay EP was supposedly pressed on green vinyl in very limited quantities. In the 6 years I have been collecting vinyl and checking eBay on an almost daily basis, I have yet to see it come up for sale. Because I have never seen it or heard of anyone that actually owns it, that would probably be the one I’d want most.
VC: Your last 5 record that you purchased?
Adam: Me First & The Gimme Gimmes - Dolly 7″ (square black vinyl from Fat’s website)
Lagwagon - Duh LP (Fat Classics repress on purple vinyl)
NOFX - 15 Years Getting Loaded LP (pink vinyl)
Dropkick Murphys - Fire & Brimstone 7″ (red vinyl)
Minus The Bear - Highly Refined Pirates & Interpretaciones LP (5 color set from VC)
