Vinyl Collector of the Month: Joey Bullock
Posted by virgil under News, Vinyl Collective, What do you think?

When starting the Vinyl Collector of the Month, I had a handful of friends in mind who would make perfect candidates. I had these people in mind, but I did not want to make them a Collector of the Month until we had a number of people not previously affiliated with VC first. Joey Bullock was one of the guys I had in mind early on as he used to work for Suburban Home, was around when we first started Vinyl Collective, and his involvement had turned him into a crazed record collector. Joey is always the first to volunteer his services when we need help with a mail out and on top of it, he is a great friend. He and our other good friend, Zach from Grey Flight, are also starting a new vinyl label and will be releasing Dear and the Headlights on vinyl soon. He also happens to be one of our board members for the Vinyl Cooperative label. When I asked him to be our May Vinyl Collector of the Month, he asked if he could send a naked photo and I assumed he was kidding. As you can tell above, he wasn’t.
Joey was kind enough to answer questions I sent him regarding his collection, why he buys vinyl, his recent purchases, and more. Thanks Joey for taking the time to do this and congratulations on being our May Vinyl Collector of the Month. Here’s hoping this doesn’t start a string of naked COTM photos!
VC: Your name and the city you live in.
JB: Joey Bullock, Denver, CO
VC: How many records do you own
JB: 630-ish
VC: Why do you collect vinyl?
JB: I collect vinyl because holding the physical record
and jacket reminds me of why I fell in love with
music. In high school, I would buy a record, and while
listening to it, I would read all of the bands they
thanked in the liner notes. This “thank you” list
would basically turn into a shopping list of bands for
me to check out. How else would I have given
Mephiskapheles a shot?
VC: What was the first record you remember purchasing
with your own money?
JB: The Fairlanes “Hi! We’re the Fairlanes 7″
VC: What is your most prized record in your
collection?
JB: Cursive The Ugly Organ on green 180 gram. Not that
rare of a record but I absolutely love this album from
start to finish
VC: What release would you like to see come out on
vinyl that hasn’t yet been released?
JB: I would like to see Kid Dynamite Cheap Shots, Youth
Anthems come out. A ton of great b-sides that would
sound great on vinyl, and help a lot of completists
sleep better
VC: What is the most you have spent for a record?
JB: $95.00 on Converge Jane Doe Root Beer/White split 2xLP
VC: What out of print record would you kill to own?
JB: Jawbreaker Unfun on Clear.
VC: Your last 5 record that you purchased?
JB: Coalesce - 012:2 Reissue
Mike Hale - Broken With No Hope
Russian Circles - Station
Against Me! Reinventing Axl Rose (Root Beer)
Teenage Bottlerocket - Warning Device
