PO/TP: MATT & KIM "To/From" 10"

MATT & KIM “To/From” 10″

Take a second and imagine having the opportunity to put out one of your favorite bands on the planet. Now I am sure any number of bands popped into your head. Well, our good friend Aaron at Team Science no longer has to imagine that feeling, he is living the dream by putting out one of his favorite bands, Matt & Kim. Every time I talk to him, every email I receive, I just feel the vibe of a super fan enjoying one of the great aspects of running a label, putting out music you love.

Team Science is pressing 1,000 10″s which will have silk-screened covers. Per the band’s request, the vinyl will be all black, but there is a small chance that there will be some variation in the covers. STay tuned.

Aaron has been kind enough to offer us not 1, but 2 test pressings for 2 lucky individuals. Pre-order this release and you will be entered to win. Good luck!

Congratulations Aaron, I really hope this experience is all that and then some.

PO/TP: THE HOLD STEADY "Stay Positive" dbl LP

Stay Posi

THE HOLD STEADY “Stay Positive” dbl LP

The latest Hold Steady album pressed domestically as a double LP. The album contains a bonus track, “Ask Her For Aderall”. The album was scheduled to be released a week ahead of the CD’s street date of July 15th, but I feel more comfortable saying that the vinyl will ship around the date of the street date, give or take.

Although, “Boys and Girls” came out on a pressing of both pink and blue vinyl, this album will only be pressed on black vinyl, per the band’s request.

Your purchase of the vinyl through Vinyl Collective will enter you for a chance to win a test pressing for the album. I wish you good luck, this will be a great test press to own.

If the first couple of tracks posted on their Myspace is any indication, this is going to be another incredible album in an already incredible catalog.

Does anyone know if “Fiestas and Fiascos” by Lifter Puller (Craig Finn’s previous band) was ever pressed on vinyl? If not, sign me up!

Suburban Home "signs" Mike Hale

Mike Hale

I really can’t be more excited than I am right now over the news that we just signed Mike Hale. Mike had fronted the Gainesville act, Gunmoll, and put out a number of rocking records out on No Idea. When Gunmoll called it a day, Mike headed West to California where he started another amazing rock band, In the Red, and he started recording music as a solo artist. He released a split 7″ with Chris Wollard of Hot Water Music and the Draft, and put out his debut album on one of my favorite labels, Asian Man Records. “Broken With No Hope” was released towards the end of February and everyone at Suburban Home/Vinyl Collective have just fallen in love with the album.

A few weeks back, Mike Hale, gave me a call. He said he was a big fan of our label and was curious if we would be interested in putting out a record for him. I responded with a resounding “Fuck Yeah”. We both spoke to Mike Park over at Asian Man and got his blessing and are now planning a recording date and an early 2009 release. We have also spoke about a number of singles and split 7″s and we are gonna soon announce an unbelievable pairing for our Under the Influence series. Mike will also be coming out to Colorado for Suburban Home’s 13th anniversary weekend. Man, I can’t wait.

Expect more news soon, but in the interim, please visit Mike’s Myspace page and do yourself the biggest favor and purchase his album on Asian Man, “Broken With No Hope”. I have no problem throwing out comparisons to Elliott Smith although Mike is definitely doing his own thing. Check out some songs and know that we are Suburban Home are so happy to be working with Mike.

TP/PO: Ninja Gun "Restless Rubes" LP/CD/Deluxe Edition

Ninja Gun

NINJA GUN “Restless Rubes” LP limited deluxe edition (2 LPs,1 CD,pint glass,t-shirt,cozie,button)

NINJA GUN “Restless Rubes” LP opaque peach vinyl

NINJA GUN “Restless Rubes” LP transparent green vinyl

NINJA GUN “Restless Rubes” CD w/ free button

We are excited to announce the pre-order for Suburban Home’s latest addition to the family, Ninja Gun. Ninja Gun are from South Georgia, but their home away from home is Gainesville, Florida. Although they share a lot of the qualities of the Gainesville scene, they have more in common with a past Gainesville resident, Tom Petty. Ninja Gun write concise, melodic pop which blends the best of Americana, Southern Classic Rock, and Indie Rock, with a slight Punk influence. I liken their sound to what the Shins might have sounded like if they grew up in the South. The guys are dedicated students of pop craftsmanship, just take a listen to an mp3 from the album, the title track, “Restless Rubes”. I really hope you give this band a chance no matter what kind of music you listen to, I truly believe in this band and think that they offer something for all fans of power pop and rock. If Commercial radio didn’t totally suck, you would hear bands like Ninja Gun on radios everywhere.

We are putting out the album on CD and 2 colors of vinyl (the vinyl, we are co-releasing with Barracuda Sound, the label that Jon from Whiskey and Co runs). The pressing of the vinyl will be split between 2 colors, 300 on opaque Peach and 700 on Transparent Green. We are offering 40 deluxe sets of the Ninja Gun album that contains:

  • 2 copies of the album on vinyl (1 Peach / 1 Transparent Green)
  • a copy of the album on CD
  • a Ninja Gun pint glass
  • a Ninja Gun T-shirt
  • a Ninja Gun coozie
  • 3 Ninja Gun buttons

All of the above items for only $40. The album is amazing, our very own Geoff Allen did an amazing job on the art, and not that this should matter, but the guys in Ninja Gun are some of the greatest guys on the planet. We have been drinking and hanging out with them this whole week and are gonna be sad when they leave for home.

So please do me a favor and lend an ear, check out the mp3, and listen to a few more songs on their Myspace page.
