FAKE PROBLEMS / LOOK MEXICO “Under the Influence Vol 1″ 7″ set of both colors

We are excited to announce the first release of our Under the Influence series. The series finds bands we love recording songs that have influenced their song writing. The artwork is being done by the very talented Mitch Clem who has been asked to make his own renditions of the album art that the song being covered originally appeared. For this first release, Fake Problems are covering “I’m A Ramblin’ Man” by Waylon Jennings and Look Mexico are covering “Brandy, You’re a Fine Girl by Looking Glass. The 7″s will come with a coupon that will allow you to download the tracks as mp3s. The 7″ will be pressed as an edition of 1,000 copies (300 on turquoise / white half and half, 700 on yellow vinyl). The Under the Influence series will also be available at your favorite digital retailer on November 4th. You can listen to each band’s cover at their respective myspace pages: Fake Problems, Look Mexico.

We have some really great 7″s planned for this series. Next up is Ninja Gun / Whiskey and Company and a special Drag the River 7″ which will feature two tracks not as a split. .

Snod Cape

Joey Cape and Lagwagon were in town this past Thursday and we had really great time hanging out with him. We took Joey out for lunch at Watercourse foods which he dug, did a little interview with him which we will post as a video and a podcast shortly, took a Visitor to Vinyl Collective photo, and hung out. Joey is one radical dude.

Later that night, we got rocked by Lagwagon where our good buddy Jon Snodgrass showed up and that is when the party began. If the photo above doesn’t give you an idea of the kind of night it was, check out these other photos posted by our good friend Geoff who ended up being the drunkest guy of the night. Suburban Home’s own Andy “Totally” Thomas came in a close 2nd, but we all had a fantastic time.

I took a few videos of the Lagwagon set which will soon be posted on the Suburban Home Youtube Channel. One of those videos is of Joey getting his mustache shaved on stage in front of over a thousand folks and then breaking into “Razor burn”. While waiting for that to be posted, make sure you stop by our Youtube channel anyways where you can see videos of performances by Joey Cape, Jon Snodgrass, and the entire Suburban Home extended family from the 13th Anniversary weekend.

I am almost out the door because I have been asked to do a guest lecture for a Music Business class at the University of Colorado at Boulder about music distribution. Should be a good time. But I wanted to let all of you know a few things before I take off:

  • Tomorrow at 2pm, we will have a pre-order for the first Under the Influence 7″ which is a split with Fake Problems and Look Mexico. We are doing 2 colors (300 on turquoise/white half and half and 700 on yellow). There will be sets of both colors as well as individually. Cover art by Mitch Clem turned out great.
  • We will also be posting pre-orders finally for See You Next Tuesday, A Life Once Lost, and Heavy Heavy Low Low. Been so busy so we did not get around to posting them last week.
  • Joey Cape vinyl should be arriving this week. Two Cow Garage and Useless I.D. vinyl will arrive next week as well all the pint glasses and merch for the deluxe sets. We will begin shipping everything next week.
  • The Victory releases got pushed back yet again. I think that we should have them by next week, but this is getting ridiculous. thanks for all your patience waiting for these.
  • We have just submitted orders for the Jealous Sound dbl LP, a Takers’ 7″, a Mike Park / O Pioneers split 7″, and the newest Norma Jean album, “The Anti-Mother”.
  • If things go as planned, we will have the new Avail re-issues and the new Dillinger Four re-issues in time for the Fest. We are also working on a Dillinger Four deluxe set which will contain 4 records, a Dillinger Four pint glass (doublewhiskeycokenoice theme), a button, a shirt, and a coozie. Should be sick.

I hope everyone is having a nice Monday!

Got in some stuff form SST and form SC distribution. Unfortunately SST don’t always give us the best fills and we get less than half of the items we normally order. SC, on the other hand are really good and so we got planty of Okkervil River, Envy, Antony and the Johnsons (new album soon!), Kimya Dawson, and more.

Our friend Tony Peters of Nerd Alert Records has started a new vinyl feature for the Punk Site dot com. For their first feature, they did an interview with me about Vinyl Collective and Suburban Home. Obviously, I am a little biased, but I think it is an excellent read and gives a lot of details about our past, our ups and downs, and lots about our future. I had a great time doing the interview and highly recommend you take a few moments to read all about it. Thanks Tony for taking the time to do this. I really appreciate it.

HONOR SYSTEM “Rise and Run” LP white vinyl

Our friends over at I Hate Punk Rock have partnered with our good buds at Grey Flight Records to bring you the vinyl for “Rise and Run”, my favorite Honor System album. I hate punk rock licensed the album from Grey Flight and we are all really excited about the fact that this is finally out on vinyl.

With the release of this record, every Honor System album will have seen the light of day on vinyl. It was a true bummer when these guys called it a day as I loved the direction they were heading in. The album is grittier than their past recordings and featured a D.C./Dischord vibe that fit their sound well. It is unfortunate that this band is no longer, but I am glad that this recording has forever been immortalized on wax. Get this while you can as it is very limited:

100 on white, 100 on blue, 300 on black.

Got in a number of Revelation/Bridge 9/Deathwish Restocks. Godo stuff from A Wilhelm Scream, Ceremony, Crime in Stereo, New Found Glory, Bleeding Through, Verse, H2O, and lots more.
