We will soon be on a plane to Atlanta, Georgia where we will be picking up a rental car and heading down to Valdosta to visit Ninja Gun. They have promised to show us around their neck of the woods and that night we will be sleeping in their double wide (they call it the Trailer of Tears). Coody has told me that they plan on recording a hit record tomorrow night with their home recording gear. Should be cool.

We will then wake our asses up at 8am in the morning (wouldn’t be early for most folks, but we will more than likely be up til 4am) to drive down to Gainesville to pick up some goods at No Idea headquarters. Once we have picked up our goods, we will be heading over to the Holiday Inn to set up and sling our wares to all the good folks at the Fest Flea Market. We have a friend bringing a cooler and we plan to stop at the liquor store to get a couple hundred PBR’s with the intention of pitting friends against each other for the First Annual Shotgunning Beers’ competition. Winners wil get free Shotgunators and maybe a deal on some records. I might even challenge some of the faster shotgunners as I think I am pretty fucking fast!

We will have lots and lots of records, a new Vinyl Collective T-shirt, VC/SH beer coozies, Shotgunators, CD Samplers and more at the Market. Please buy something because the more we buy, the less we have to ship back. Regarding the Delicious Vinyl FREE Fest LP, we will give away one to each person who buys something. We will also have all of our bands that are playing giving them away with their purchases, too, but each act will only have around 25 copies each.

Speaking of our bands, we have some good news and some bad news. Bad News first, Mike Hale and Ghost Buffalo both had to bail out of this year’s Fest. I am very sorry to have to tell you this, but circumstances beyond both’s control made it to where they had to cancel. We will miss you Mike Hale and Ghost Buffalo. We will do our best to get them out there next year. Since Mike will be M.I.A., In the Red will also now not be playing. The good news though is that we still have Drag the River, Austin Lucas, Two Cow Garage, Josh Small, The Takers, and Ninja Gun all playing. Please mark down the following times of our bands:

Friday October 31st
Ninja Gun – 8:50-9:20 @ Common Grounds

Sunday November 2nd
Josh Small – 3:20-3:50 @ Common Grounds
Austin Lucas – 4:00-4:30 @ Common Grounds
The Takers – 5:40-6:10 @ Common Grounds
Two Cow Garage – 8:10-8:40 @ Common Grounds
Drag The River – 9:00-10:00 @ Common Grounds

I urge you all to attend. I know there are a lot of bands playing at the same time and many of them are amazing, but we really hope you all consider seeing our bands.

For those that Twitter, please keep tabs on our whereabouts on our Twitter page. I will also be bringing my pocket video camera and will be sending videos to Ralph each day to post on our Youtube page. If I have the ability to do so, I will also be making posts and updating the site, but I don’t want to get too ambitious.

I am beyond excited for this trip and I hope to meet every single one of you while there. If you catch me at 2am and I am looking vacant, please re-introduce yourself to me at an earlier hour. Also in our crew, we have Andy and Caroline from Suburban Home, Geoff from Fun is OK, Joey and Zach from Clay Street Records, and Ethan who isn’t from anything but is a bad ass dude. If you see any or all of us, please say hi and don’t be afraid to get us a beer. See all of you very soon.

p.s. this photo is of the newly printed Aaron Dange (of Team Science) mask that we help sponsored. Not exactly sure how you can acquire one yourself, but expect to be rocking one on Halloween!

KID DYNAMITE “Cheap Shots, Youth Anthems” LP black vinyl
KID DYNAMITE “Cheap Shots, Youth Anthems” LP translucent gold vinyl
KID DYNAMITE “Cheap Shots, Youth Anthems” LP set of both colors
DEAR AND THE HEADLIGHTS “Small Steps, Heavy Hooves” dbl LP black vinyl
DEAR AND THE HEADLIGHTS “Small Steps, Heavy Hooves” dbl LP translucent gold vinyl
DEAR AND THE HEADLIGHTS “Small Steps, Heavy Hooves” dbl LP set of both colors

I feel like these bands need no introduction. Both are amazing although both could not be more different than each other. The common bond though and the reason I have them in a single post on the site and message board is because both of these releases are on Clay Street Records. Clay Street are run by Zach from Grey Flight and Joey, former employee of Suburban Home. Both dudes rule and have always been a big help to me and I am stoked to be involved with their new label. And between you and me, you really can’t start a label off better than these guys have with their first 2 releases.

Both records are being pressed out of an edition of 1,000 copies and not sure if this was planned, but both releases are out of an edition of 300 on black and 700 on translucent gold. Maybe that could be their thing and they could start dressing up at shows in all black and gold clothing, get some bling, maybe a Kangol hat and they can be known as those “cool” dudes who put out kick ass records.

Kid Dynamite is a single LP, Dear and the Headlights is a double LP with a gatefold jacket.

There are a limited number of sets of both colors for both releases and Clay St have been kind enough to donate a test pressing for a test pressing contest for both releases. Both records are amazing and would make great additions to your collection. I expect the Kid Dynamite to be a fast mover but I think that people should not overlook this Dear and the Headlights’ release. The songs are just so good.

Hi-Five Zach and Joey. (by the way, these guys will be my partners in crime at the Fest. Give them Hi-Fives and compimentary PBR!)

V/A “Delicious Vinyl: Fest 08″ LP orange vinyl

I got enough emails and reminders telling me that there are quite a big number of you not going to the Fest. I definitely did not mean to alienate any of you non-Fest goers but just got stoked on the idea of doing something cool for the Fest. Now everyone can be happy (at least those interested in this album). I have mentioned this release more than a few times and man, I think it kicks ass. It has exclusive tracks from nearly all of our artists and this will be only pressed once, 1,000 copies on Orange vinyl.

I have a hundred copies for sale. That might be all we sell through our site, although we might have a few more when it is all said and done. Get a copy. I think you will be stoked to have this in your collection.

And don’t forget, you can download the entire compilation for a limited time at this link.

Or visit our Fest page to download the tracks individually. While there, please make notes about the Fest schedule and our bands playing it.

Test pressing contest will be awarded at the end of November.

TAKERS “Curse of a Drunk” 7″ black vinyl
TAKERS “Curse of a Drunk” 7″ silver vinyl
TAKERS “Curse of a Drunk” 7″ set of both colors

We are excited to introduce you to an amazing new band called the Takers. The Takers reside in Gainesville, Florida, and along with Whiskey and Company and the Enablers are part of a thriving, developing Alt-Country/Americana hotspot. I first found out about this band through Ninja Gun and later found out that John from Whiskey and Co who runs Barracuda Sound also plays in the Takers.

Although not yet an official Suburban Home artist, I proclaim them Suburban Home’s Outlaw Country band. If you had a time machine and could send the Takers back 30 years, their band would have fit in perfectly sharing a bill with Willie and Waylon. I will be meeting and seeing them for the first time at this year’s Fest (they are playing with Drag the River, Two Cow Garage, Austin Lucas, and Josh Small) and if all goes as I am sure it will, they will be Suburban Home’s newest band.

This debut single features the A-side, “Curse of a Drunk”, a Takers’ tune with a theme I’m sure you can figure out. The B-side finds the Takers playing a rocking rendition of Neil Young’s “Powderfinger”. Both songs smoke and provide a nice sample of things to expect.

Download “Curse of a Drunk“, get familiar with it, and expect many more great tunes to follow.

If you are a fan of Drag the River, Tim Barry, Lucero, Willie Nelson, and/or Waylon Jennings, I highly recommend you give the Takers a listen. They also contribute a really great track on our Delicious Vinyl compilation LP.

Pressing info:
150 on Black vinyl
350 on Silver vinyl

Because we are giving the band a hundred copies and taking some down to the Fest, we only have 200 copies for sale. Will it sell out? It might not super quickly, but it should. These guys are one of the greatest new bands we have come across. Go see them at the Fest!

Test pressing contest for this release, winners will be announced by the end of November.

Got in a few new records. One new title on 3 different colors from Basement Records, the folks who put out the Bullet Treatment Records. We also got in a few from our friends at Mutant Pop, The Apers and Impulse International.

THE INSURGENCE “Never Surrender” 7″ olive vinyl
THE INSURGENCE “Never Surrender” 7″ dark green vinyl

TURMOIL “The Process Of” LP 180 gram vinyl
TURMOIL “The Process Of” LP white vinyl

Just got in these Turmoil records and man, they look great. I know that there are some Turmoil fans out there who are going to be stoked. 200 pressed on white, 300 pressed on 180 gram black. And the album features all new artwork that looks really nice.

LIQUID LIMBS “Orquid” LP maroon vinyl
LIQUID LIMBS “Orquid” LP maroon w/ cream haze vinyl

Sound Study Recordings bring us their first LP by Liquid Limbs. The band is a two piece rock outfit from Gainesville and from the description, I think a lot of you will like this. Comparisons to Torche and Big Business should peak a few interests. The record comes with a CD of the entire album and the artwork is just killer.

Sound Study is definitely a label to keep an eye on. In Stock now!

Got in some really great restocks from Fat, Mutant Pop, and Crafty. We stocked up good on the situationist comedy since we figured there are a lot of exploding D4 collections lately. We also got more of the ghost mice/brook pridemore 7″s, the Loblaws, and Jon Cougar Concentration Camp. I still love that song by JCCC “Hot Shit” with the poetic lyric, “You Think Your Hot Shit, But You Ain’t Nothing But Cold Piss”. So epic!

Since I am losing my mind trying to fit in 3 days of work into 1 (I leave for the Fest tomorrow morning), I thought I would just give you a brief outlay of what to expect today.

  • Kid Dynamite, Dear and the Headlights, Takers, and our Fest LP will all be going up for Pre-order today. If you want all or most, make sure you wait til all the pre-orders are posted. I might only be posting 100 Fest LPs for pre-order in case you are wondering. Most of the rest will be given away to Fest Go-ers, to bands, and to friends. I am still planning on getting the pre-orders up by 2pm Mountain Standard, but I have a lot to do. Wish me luck!
  • We just got in some new records that I will post shortly (Liquid Limbs, Turmoil, and Anchor Arms)
  • Got in a bunch of good restocks from Fat Wreck along with the black vinyl Dead to Me EP. The Dead to Me pre-orders along with the Avail and A Life Once Lost should be going out by week’s end. Andy is printing postage as we speak for these and other orders but that doesn’t mean they are all shipping today. Since Andy, Caroline, and Myself are leaving for the Fest, Josh will be packing all the orders pretty much by himself.
  • Speaking of the Fest, I will be posting a big Fest newsletter tonight or tomorrow morning detailing what we have happening (good news and a little bad), stuff we will have for sale, shotgunning contests, etc. Suburban Home/Vinyl Collective will essentially be closed during the Fest and won’t reopen til Tuesday. Yes, Josh will be packing orders, but we won’t be able to respond to questions and requests while we are at the Fest.

I think that is it. Thanks for bearing with us. And if you are bored, please check out our Youtube video tour of the office. It came out pretty good for a bunch of hacks.
