Our friends at Pirates Press did us the ultimate solid by requesting that their manufacturer, GZ, send us some of the cut out center labels from some of our records. The way I understand how this happened is that during the pressing process, they test the quality of the records being manufactured. When some of the records don’t pass their quality control, the records are discarded, melted down, and that melted down vinyl is reused for a future pressing. Eric, owner and all round bad ass from Pirates Press, requested that the plant cut out the vinyl centers, and send them to us as a gift. We have been using them as coasters around the office at our house and could not be more stoked to have them.

PLEASE READ THE NEXT FEW SENTENCES REGARDING THE COASTERS – If you placed an order during our Black Friday sales and/or plan to order records throughout our 12 days of Christmas, we will send 1 coaster with each order until we run out. Even if you placed more than one order during this time, if we combine the orders, you will only get 1 coaster. I didn’t count the total number of coasters, but I think we have around 400 of them. I know some of you will be emailing us to buy them or to get a complete set, but your requests will be denied. We want to spread the gift of these coasters with as many people as possible and we will not accept money for them since they were given to us as gifts. The only other way that you can get more than 1 coaster will be by pure chance. We will select one customer throughout the holidays and that person will receive a complete set of coasters (36 or 37 coasters) just like we would select a test pressing winner.

I know some of you will have opinions about our handling of the coasters. I appreciate all of your opinions and will respectfully read your comments and emails, but this is how I have decided to distribute the coasters. These coasters are so fucking cool and I just want everyone to get one. Please check out all of the photos by clicking the following link to get a better look. This is yet another reason why Pirates Press will get my loyal business.

I had planned to post this at Midnight tonight, but since my brother brought a bottle of Whiskey over for Thanksgiving, I am afraid that come midnight, I might not be the most responsible person. Just a quick note, this is a really good deal, make sure you take advantage of it. And know that starting Monday, I will have 12 days of Christmas sales. Hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving.

For the first 12 years of us running Suburban Home Records, we released 60 releases. Over the course of 2008, we have released almost 50 releases. The numbers are staggering. During any of our previous years had anyone told me that we would put out 50 releases in one year, I would have sent them off to the loony bin. With so many records, it isn’t hard to imagine how packed our warehouse is. We have done this sale before, but I think that this sale is even more important today as we can use some elbow room in our warehouse.

The Black Friday Wholesale Pricing Sale gives you the same price that we sell our records to distributors for. Don’t tell our distributors! This is better than an Employee Pricing Sale as our staff gets 20 percent off of our retail prices. Don’t tell our staff! The Sale begins tonight and will end on Monday. Do not snooze on these prices, it isn’t very likely you will see this kind of sale from us for some time.

One more thing, we have also lowered all of the Suburban Home full length CDs for $5.00 Each! There are quite a few $5 CDs on our site, but over the weekend all of the Suburban Home albums will be $5.

Friends, I wanted to give you a summary on the deals you can expect from Suburban Home Records with regards to our CDs. Most of the deals, we have all year long, but we have a few great discounts, too.

  1. All Suburban Home Compact Discs will be $5.00 throughout the holidays. Many of our CDs are normally $8.99 ($10.99 in stores) so $5.00 is a hell of a bargain. Stock up on Joey Cape, Drag the River, Two Cow Garage, Tim Barry, Ninja Gun, Jr Juggernaut, LaGrecia, Scott Reynolds, Useless ID, Gamits, Stereotyperider, and more. Take a look at our CDs, we have a lot of CDs for sale for $5.00.
  2. I Celebrate Their Entire Catalog Sale – For $100.00 plus shipping, you get every in print Suburban Home Records CD (around 40 titles) and you also get our next 10 CD releases shipped to you throughout the year. Plus, you get a t-shirt with the above logo on it. You end up getting around 50 CDs and a t-shirt for $100.00.
  3. Pick 5 for $25, Pick 10 for $50 sales – Pick any 5 or 10 Suburban Home Records’ CDs and/or Pint glasses for $25 and $50 respectively. $5 per CD and glass is a pretty darn good deal.
  4. 50 CDs for $50 and 25 CDs for $25 – Throughout the years, we have ended up with a lot of overstock CDs that have filled our warehouse to the point where we have to have a storage space. In each deal are Suburban Home titles as well as a number of distributed titles that run the gammut of Punk, Indie, and Hardcore. For the holidays, we will offer 50 sets of the 50 for 50 for only $20. That is only 40 cents per CD. Help us get rid of some of our overstock, help yourself discover a ton of great releases.

We will be posting the Vinyl Collective Sales momentarily and early next week, we will be posting sales each of the first 12 days of December including sales on Pint Glasses, Suburban Home band Super Sales, Coozies, Out of Print Vinyl, Test Pressings, Records, and more.

DELICIOUS VINYL COLLECTIVE T-Shirt

For this year’s Fest, we made a special edition T-shirt to commemorate our trip. We were inspired by the Delicious Vinyl shirts taking their design and putting our own twist on it. We asked our friend Mitch Clem to illustrate a Gator. We had our friend Geoff Allen design the shirt. And we had our friends at Vertical Merch print the shirts. These shirts will only be around for a short time.

Shirts are Grey on the American Apparel 50/25/25 Track Shirt available on XS,S,M,L,and XXL(I messed up and didn’t order XLs). I guarantee that this will be the most comfortable shirt in your t-shirt drawer.

Caroline is modeling the shirt, an Xsmall.

The following list is a head’s up if you have been thinking about purchasing any of the following records. Back when we were putting out far fewer records, we were able to post lists like this all the time. Lately, we have been so busy, sometimes we don’t know if we are coming or going. Just the other day after Hot Topic ordered 300 of each of the D4 reissues we put out, we realized that we had to close the chapter on those pressings as we are now out of print of both records. The following releases made this list if we had fewer than 50 copies of any one variant. Many of the following there are 20 or less left though. So consider this your 2 minute warning. If you want any of the following, I suggest you pick them up right away.

Mike from Jr. Juggernaut emailed me saying that one of their songs made it onto the Lucero Message Board November Compilation. I checked out the link and saw that Tim Barry was also on the compilation which also featured tracks by the Who, Hank III, Billy Bragg, Queens of the Stone Age, Bon Iver, Black Keys, Jenny Lewis with Elvis Costello, and more. You can download the entire mix by going to this link. I had heard about this mix tape club through the Lucero Message Board for a while now, but seeing 2 of our bands on one inspired me to join the Lucero Message Board.

I highly recommend checking out the mix and the message board. It is an honor having some of our bands included on this mix.

Ralph went over and beyond the call of duty to show you how bad ass this box set is. If you have been on the fence about this set, you better get one now. We only have 8 left and Red Eye (our distributor) said they are pretty much sold out of them. You will be kicking yourself for years.

We just received 6 boxes of goodness from our friends at No Idea Records. In there were a ton of restocks (will post that in a second) as well as the following New (or at least new to vc) records. Got in the Tom Gabel single, the Fest edition pressing of the first Hawks and Doves single, a Bridge and Tunnel 7″ and split 7″, the Ghost Mice / Saw Wheel spilt, Shorebirds 7″s, the #1 Reason to Move to Gainesville comp, and we finally ordered some of Whiskey and Co vinyl.

That Hawks and Doves 7″ is so good. It is Gared from Planes Mistaken for Stars and the A side (Hush Money) is a show stopper. The B-side is a very well played Bruce Springsteen cover, “I’m On Fire”. My only complaint on the single is that Gared had told me that we migth be releasing the Bruce cover as part of our Under the Influence series. Oh well,  I will get him to cover something else.

The #1 Reason to Move to Gainesville has some really new and exciting Gainesville bands including Anchor Arms, Cutman, and the Jimmy Dodgers.

ELI PAPERBOY REED & THE TRUE LOVES “Roll With You” LP
SHARON JONES & THE DAP KINGS “100 Days 100 Nights ” LP
SHARON JONES & THE DAP KINGS “Dap-Dippin’” LP

We have been trying to get these records in for quite some time and we just finally got them in stock. I group them together because Eli Paperboy Reed and Sharon Jones both play 50’s inspired rock and roll/soul and both do it very well. I highly recommend both acts if this is your thing. I missed Eli when he came to Denver because Minus the Bear and Portugal the Man were in town, but man, i would have really liked to have seen him play.
