COBRA SKULLS "Never Be A Machine" 7"

COBRA SKULLS “Never Be A Machine” 7″

Somehow, we missed out on carrying this when they first came around, but as they say, Better Late than Never. I figured we should have these in the store before we post our big pre-order of Volume 6 of Under the Influence. I am late to getting into these guys, but I love them. I am really excited to put out their split with Andrew Jackson Jihad and I am super stoked about putting out their debut album on vinyl. If you are not hip to these guys, check them out. They play a refreshing blend of punk rock with a little bit of rockabilly(for lack of a better term). If you don’t have this 7″, pick it up when you pick up the split tomorrow.

Bad News about Under the Influence Vol 6 pre-order

Dreamhost (our host) has totally shit the bed and because of this, we are gonna hold off the pre-order til tomorrow. I am sorry friends. I am having a totally shitty day where the internet isn’t working, our gmail is fucking up, and I can’t even log into the vinyl collective site to make a post. Luckily these things happen in 3s and then things are cool again.

Thanks for those of you who have been waiting for this pre-order to go up and thanks for all your support. Tomorrow will be a better day. Same time tomorrow, the pre-order will commence.

Andrew Jackson Jihad / Cobra Skulls UTI volume 6 News

We are excited to announce the sixth release of our Under the Influence series. The series finds bands we love recording songs that have influenced their song writing. The artwork is being done by the very talented Mitch Clem and Nation of Amanda who has been asked to make their own renditions of the album art that the song being covered originally appeared. For this sixth release, Andrew Jackson Jihad are covering Neutral Milk Hotel’s “Two Headed Boy” and Cobra Skulls are covering Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues”. The 7″s will come with a coupon that will allow you to download the tracks as mp3s. The 7″ will be pressed as an edition of 2,000 copies. We should have copies by the middle of March.

Listen to the tracks from this Under the Influence plus the previous 5 volumes here. You can also listen to them at the Andrew Jackson Jihad and Cobra Skulls’ Myspace pages.

$5 LP – IN THE RED "Volume1" LP (3 colors)

IN THE RED “Volume1″ LP blue vinyl ONLY $5
IN THE RED “Volume1″ LP red vinyl ONLY $5
IN THE RED “Volume1″ LP white vinyl ONLY $5

That’s right, the incredible debut album by In the Red, Volume 1, is available for a temporary time for only $5. why you might ask? Well, I was chatting with Bryon at Kiss of Death and it sounds like this release was a bit of a headache compared to how releases generally go. Without getting into specifics (but I am sure some of you know some of the details), they ended up with more copies of this record than they had intended to have and had a number of issues come up. We talked about it and I suggested we offer them to all of you at a really good price.

With a brand new album being pressed right now and with us planning on posting an mp3 from the record (early next week), we thought that this might help get a few people thinking and talking about this incredible band.

We have 50 copies on Red, White, and Blue. After these are sold, there won’t be a ton of copies left so if you have ever thought about picking up this record, this is a perfect time.

A quick thing about In the Red Volumes 1.5 and 2.0, the artwork and master are at the pressing plants and we are waiting on Mike Hale to tell us what colored vinyl to do. We also have Brandon putting the finishing touches on the artwork for the 4 7″s that will make up volume 1.5. We are still figuring out how we are going to do this (more than likely as a subscription). The songs are done and being mastered and sound so absolutely great.

We will soon be posting dates for the tour which begins at the end of February and goes through most of March. Please make sure you see them when they are in your neck of the woods. One last thing (if you are still reading), it looks like In the Red and Able Baker Fox will be doing an under the influence at some point which is gonna be a killer pairing!

I am not the biggest fan of picture discs, but this one looks really sharp. I actually met the photographer who took the photos for Float in Vegas. She took some photos of our “kick ass” bowling team which would never look nice on a picture disc. Got in the Measure / Flaming 50 splits and I absolutely love the cover art for the Measure. Lastly, we got in all 3 colors of the Partners in Crime which has one of my favorite bands, the Mischief Brew. That reminds me, I need to put the record on my player and check it out.

Videos of William Elliott Whitmore/City and Colour

willewhitmore_citycolour

I had the great pleasure of watching William Elliott Whitmore perform at the Bluebird Theater this past Sunday night. He is touring with City and Colour who joined him for the performance you see above. It was great seeing him for the first time and this song with City and Colour was a nice surprise. If you get the opportunity to see Will on this tour, do yourself an absolute favor and go see him play.

If you haven’t pre-ordered his new album, I recommend doing so. The new album is great and those songs live are amazing. We shot a video of “Old Devils” from the new album.

Stop by our Youtube Channel where you can see 5 videos of Will (1 with City and Colour) and Seabron shot a video of City and Colour.

I also got to meet William and he is such an incredibly nice person. What a great night.

TP/PO: AUSTIN LUCAS "Somebody Loves You" LP/CD/deluxe set

AUSTIN LUCAS “Somebody Loves You” LP gold vinyl
AUSTIN LUCAS “Somebody Loves You” LP red/black half and half vinyl
AUSTIN LUCAS “Somebody Loves You” CD
AUSTIN LUCAS “Somebody Loves You” DELUXE SET w/ CD, LP, T-shirt, button, coozie, poster, and pint glass

Today, we are proud as shit to announce the pre-order for Austin Lucas’ new album on Suburban Home, “Somebody Loves You”. I can hardly believe the circumstances that made this happen. It started with me listening to “Putting the Hammer Down” and “Bristle Ridge” and just loving what I heard so much, I decided to write Austin and ask if he would be interested in putting out an Under the Influence 7″. Much later after Austin had moved back to the states and while talking to Mike Hale, Mike had mentioned that Austin was bummed that I hadn’t written him back, something I didn’t realize had happened. I got his number from Mike, called up Austin and somehow, some way, we discussed the possibility of us working together.

After it was agreed that we would put out his next album, we had him fly out to Denver for our 13th Anniversary weekend. We had an absolute blast hanging out with Austin, hearing his stories, and watching him perform live. We again hung out with him when the Revival Tour came through Colorado and yet again when we went down to Gainesville for the Fest.

Austin spent the better part of December recording with his family at his father’s studio (the same studio that created “Bristle Ridge”). The 11 song album is absolutely amazing, one of the greatest albums we have been lucky enough to release; an album that I am sure will help Austin Lucas to find a ton of new fans.

Enough of me jawing on. This album is brilliant, it is beautiful, and it is absolutely powerful (in ways that you wouldn’t expect).

We just posted a 2nd song on our site, “Precious Little Heart” which you can listen to in our streaming playing on our Release page. You can also download the title track “Somebody Loves You” from our site and listen to a few other tracks on Austin’s Myspace page.

Listen to the songs and make sure you pre-order a copy. We have set up a pre-order for the CD, the vinyl, and a handful of deluxe sets which contain a copy of the CD and a copy of the LP, a T-shirt, a button, a poster, a coozie, and a pint glass. The vinyl pressing is out of an edition of 1,500 copies (500 on Gold, 1,000 on Red/Black half and half co-released with Hometown Caravan in Germany).

Make sure you see Austin when he plays with Joey Cape and Jon Snodgrass in the Northwest and then with Tim Barry and Josh Small on a tour that will take him throughout most of the United States.
