More Get Up Kids,Thursday,My Chemical Romance,Minus the Bear

I noticed that we sold out of Get up Kids “Something to Write Home About”, Thursday “Common Existence”, and Minus the Bear “Acoustics”. I just got ok to post more of each.

And I just found out that I have 100 more My Chemical Romance “I Brought You My Bullets” coming in this week so if you missed out the first time around, get them now. With only 1,000 pressed of the first pressing, these are sure to be gone quickly.

Drunk Dial – Vinyl Vlog dudes get 5.5 on our asses

We have been slow to do a full on relaunch of our Drunk Dial Hotline, because we had run into a lot of technical difficulties. We think we fixed the glitch as seems evident by the handful of drunk dials we have received recently. Here friends is a drunk dial from our friends at Vinyl Vlog.

Drunk Dial – Vinyl Vlog dudes

Although, we don’t plan to do a big relaunch of the drunk dial hotline, it does appear to be working. Please put this number in your cell phone, 303-800-6DUI (6384), and the next time you are drunk and have something to say, give it a call.

I am also toying around with the idea of asking everyone’s opinion in certain matters and having people call in and posting some of those calls. What do you think? I could ask certain questions like, hey should we work out a deal with Red Scare where we license their records for release on vinyl? or Should we do vinyl press runs on 1 or 2 colors? Stuff like that.

Thanks Vinyl Vloggers for the phone call.

Visitor to VC: Mustard Plug

Mustard Plug (1-23-09) – It isn’t often that we have 2 visiting bands on the same day, but it happened today (if you were wondering why there were a lack of updates). They had a few boxes of shirts shipped here and came to pick them up. Little did they know that we had just stocked our fridge with a ton of really good beer. They all partook of our beer, hung out, and posed for this picture. I have known most of the Mustard Plug folks for a long time as they were one of the new bands on Hopeless when I worked there over 10 years ago. They are in town for the Ska is Dead Colorado dates and I am bummed I won’t be able to make it out since Drag the River are playing Saturday and William Elliott Whitmore is playing Sunday. I really wanted to see Deal’s Gone Bad who are on the tour as well. It was great seeing Mustard Plug and I hope all the shows are going well. See other visitors to VC here

Visitor to VC: Anchor Down

Anchor Down (1-23-09) – Our new friends, Anchor Down, came to Denver (from Portland) to play the Blackout Pact reunion show tonight. Josh from our office somehow ended up picking them from the airport and brought them down to the office. They bought some records, drank some beer, and watched some Sunny in Philadelphia while at our office and we took them to City O City for some yummy vegetarian fare. They are supremely nice guys. I guess I will be seeing them tomorrow night at 3 Kings for the Drag the River / Andy Thomas show which should be fun. Vanessa of Lubricated Magazine first told me about them and I recognized a few of the guys from the Fest. Check them out.

Legwork Studio site has launched!

My really good friends (and coincidentally 3 former Suburban Home employees) have launched a website for their design firm Legwork. The site is really cool, really easy  to navigate, and their About Video is probably the greatest thing I have seen all week. I urge every one of you to check out the site and if you only look at one thing, make sure you view their About Video. They did such a badass job on it.

Legwork is Aaron Ray, Sean Klassen, and Joey Bullock. Aaron used to be our art director and has done some of our best merch and album arts (Gamits Antidote, Birdman hoodie), Sean made the very first Suburban Home website years ago, and Joey used to work for us for a long time and still helps out quite a bit. If you are looking for someone to handle your print, web, or interactive work, these are your guys. Most recently, they did all the art for Ghost Buffalo’s “The Magician”.

Great site guys!

TP/PO: DRAG THE RIVER "Under the Influence Vol 5" 7"

DRAG THE RIVER “Under the Influence Vol 5″ 7″ WHISKEY AND COKE COLORED VINYL
DRAG THE RIVER “Under the Influence Vol 5″ 7″ BOTH COLORS

We are excited to announce the fifth release of our Under the Influence series. The series finds bands we love recording songs that have influenced their song writing. The artwork is being done by the very talented Mitch Clem and Nation of Amanda who has been asked to make their own renditions of the album art that the song being covered originally appeared. For this fourth release, Drag the River are covering Sam Cooke’s “Having a Party” and Jeff Black’s “I Know”. The 7″s will come with a coupon that will allow you to download the tracks as mp3s. The 7″ will be pressed as an edition of 1,000 copies. We should have copies by the end of February.

Listen to the tracks from this Under the Influence plus the previous 4 volumes here.

1. Having a Party (by Sam Cooke)
2. I Know (by Jeff Black)

PRESSING INFO(co-released with Hometown Caravan in Germany so 120 of the yellow/white and 280 of the whiskey and coke colored vinyl are off to Germany):

PO: THE LOVED ONES "Distractions" LP

THE LOVED ONES “Distractions” LP

The Loved Ones return with the follow up to the very good “Build and Burn” with a 6 song 12″. I am really excited to hear this. For those of you wondering, I am pretty certain our copies will be on black vinyl. I was told by Fat that the vinyl was still a few weeks out so my guess is that their pre-order is still a few weeks out. Keep this under wraps, but I recently asked Dave from the Loved Ones if he or the band would be into doing an Under the Influence and he said yes. I don’t want to jinks myself, but I just wanted to share that with you all cause it is going to be amazing.

And I want to apologize now for all the amazing vinyl we have been posting. It has been nuts.

PO: ANDREW BIRD "Noble Beast" dbl LP

ANDREW BIRD “Noble Beast” dbl LP

Andrew Bird is back with another beautiful album and from what the press keeps writing, Andrew Bird is the 2nd best whistler on the planet next to those dudes Peter and Bjorn. I like the album upon initial listen, but I love “Armchair Apocrypha”. I am sure I will like this a lot more the more I listen to it. We should have this within the next week or so.
