Videos: Jon Snodgrass “Catfish Noodlin”

Our good buds at Lubricated Magazine were so kind as to send me a couple videos from Jon’s recent tour of the West Coast with Joey Cape. Sounds like the night went kind of like this: great show, then late night boozing in the Lubricated garage, Chad Price passed out, Morgan wrote a song about Catfish Noodlin (in the key of Old MacDonald), Patrick picking on the banjo, and Snodgrass wingin it with some of his own playing and singing. Vanessa did the filming. Check out Part 2 first (my favorite)

Huge Second Nature Overstock Sale

One of Justin’s buddies used to run a straightedge h/c distro and hasn’t done anything with it for ages. He wondered if we would want to sell his records and I suggested we set up a few 7″ lots and see if there might be a few interested parties. There is only 1 of each of the above lots and if I can estimate, my guess is the 7″s came out during the early 2000’s. I saw at least a few bands I recognized, but most i had never heard of. I noticed a little wear on some of the 7″s but at $1 per 7″, it is a steel for anyone who collects Straight Edge Hardcore.

I don’t know if there is a record for most variants of an album, but if Reinventing Axl Rose isn’t #1, it is quickly getting there. The latest pressing has colors on purple, pale purple, grey purple, and yellow. We also still have some on 180 gram red. Mathletes out there, tell me how many have been pressed of this album. 20,000 plus!

CHAMBERLAIN “Fate’s Got A Driver” LP re-issue

The roots of Chamberlain are planted in the Indianapolis band Split Lip, a juggernaut of the Midwest hardcore scene between 1991 and 1995. “Fate’s Got A Driver” was released in 1995 and supported with a lengthy US tour, but the band opted to change its name to Chamberlain as its music began to mature beyond the hardcore leanings of its younger days. This long out of print title is available now on a new vinyl only re-issue. Includes rarities, live tracks, and never before released content.

Cheap Girls are a great band because they have the unique ability to write songs that are heartfelt and sweet, yet totally depressing at the same time. This little ditty may not represent how rocking of a band Cheap Girls can be, but does show the touchingly tortured side I have grown to love.

I, too, love love love this album. My favorite song is “Stop Now”. You can download that song and the entire album at Quote Unquote Records. Paper and Plastick is re-releasing this album so make sure you pick up this original pressing. This album is definitely worth owning more than one version of.

Dischord has been slowly repressing their back catalog with remastered audio, mostly on colored vinyl, and with a download coupon. These two records will arrive this next week and if you don’t already own them, they are essential. I am listening to “Red Medicine” right now and it sounds amazing. Embrace is a short-lived band with Ian Mackeye which formed after Minor Thread and before Fugazi. Great stuff, too.
