Today’s installment of “Song of the Day” is brought to you by yours truly, Virgil Dickerson.

Last night I got some really exciting news. Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground will be touring with MeWithoutYou and The Dear Hunter from June 25th to July 11th. They are coming through Colorado and playing lots of great venues. This could not be more perfect timing as we are re-releasing their S/t album on CD and double LP towards the end of May/early June. When we released this album early last year, I think it really caught people off guard by how amazing it is. The recording is pretty unbelievable as some of the songs has over a hunded tracks. The songs are so well written that I never hesitated giving it comparisons to the Beatles if they had grown up in the Northwest indie rock scene. The album is one of those records that you hear something new every time you listen to it. The band are currently working on new songs (I have 6 absolutely brilliant songs right now) that will make up a new album. I am not sure if we will be putting it out (I really hope so), but regardless, I can’t wait for their new album.

“Hey Momma” is just one small part of a nearly perfect album. I highly recommend everyone give this record a listen and the vinyl’s fidelity sounds better than almost any record I have ever heard.

We have 50 copies remaining of the original pressing of their s/t album. The repress will have a new gatefold jacket with updated art by our own Ralph Eberhard and will see release on CD (the packaging on the CD is out of site, too). If you ever considered picking up the original, now would be the time.

The album, “Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground” is available in the VC store, you can find it here.

The song, “Hey Momma” is the 1st track off of “House With No Name”. You can download the song here.

As the Song of the Day continues, you can find past installments here. You will also notice that each week’s streaming player will have each Song of the Day added so that by week’s end, there will be 5 songs. We hope you like the track.

We are proud to announce the pre-order for the next 2 Red Scare titles that will be released on vinyl through your friends at Vinyl Collective. For those that of you who don’t know, we are Red Scare’s vinyl partner and are so damned excited to be working with one of the greatest labels putting out Punk Rock.

The Cobra Skulls “Sitting Army” will finally see a domestic release on vinyl. The Reno, Nevada, band are one of the most exciting bands in Punk Rock. We released a split 7″ for Cobra Skulls previously (w/ Andrew Jackson Jihad) which saw the Skulls doing one of the best Bob Dylan covers I have ever heard. The band gets comparisons to Against Me and the Living End, but that doesn’t do full justice describing what they do. We are working on releasing their debut album on Red Scare as an LP as the Cobra Skulls began recording their follow-up. The album will be pressed in an edition of 1,000 copies over 2 colors (500 on Transparent Green, 500 on Opaque Yellow). Gunner Records have released “Sitting Army” in Europe previously.

The Sidekicks “So Long, Soggy Dog” LP will see its international debut on vinyl. I first heard the Sidekicks when WhoaOh sent us copies of their 7″, “Sam” and when I heard it, I was so blown away, I decided to check out the Red Scare album which is equally amazing. The Sidekicks are the band that Brendan Kelly from the Lawrence Arms championed and from what I hear is the reason they are on Red Scare. If you dig the Lawrence Arms or the Falcon and/or Against Me, you will love this album. The album will be pressed in an edition of 500 copies over 1 color (500 on Powder Blue). Expect the guys to be involved in our Under the Influence 7″ series at some point which is going to be amazing.

The pre-order for these records will be posted on Thursday, April 2nd at 2pm Mountain Time.

In related news, we will have the Copyrights vinyl in on Friday or Monday for “Learn the Hard Way” and in about 2 weeks, we will have the Druglords vinyl.

Stop by the Suburabn Home site and check out the latest drunk dials we just posted from Look Mexico (favorite band of Vinyl Collective) and from Dante3000 (active VC message boarder and big-time supporter). Here is the link.

Future Drunk Dialers, make sure you put 303-800-6384 (6DUI) in your phone for that next night out boozing.

DILLINGER FOUR “This Shit is Genius (1994 – 1997) LP white vinyl

We got in the white vinyl today for “This Shit is Genius”. The album name could not be more accurate. These songs are so amazing and show that even D4’s early material is better than most band’s best material. Damn I love this band.
Expect news of a repress for Midwestern Songs and Versus God soon!

IN THE RED “Volume 2″ LP/CD/Deluxe Sets (Purchase directly from Vinyl Collective/Suburban Home)

Today, Tuesday, March 31st, we are excited to announce the release of In the Red’s 2nd album, “Volume 2″ on LP, CD, and digitally. Although In the Red’s first album came out only a year ago, it seems like an eternity separates the two albums. So much has happened since Mike Hale left Florida behind him (along with his band Gunmoll) for sunny California where he met Matt Glasgow at a Hot Water Music show and the two started jamming. Volume 1 represents a snapshot of Mike and Matt’s previous influences writing music that didn’t stray too far from their Gainesville roots. With the recording of Volume 2, Mike had decided he wanted to do something a little bit different. Probably the biggest difference you will hear on Volume 2 is Mike’s approach to vocals trading in some of his guttural screams for much cleaner singing. The result isn’t any less powerful and if you were to ask me, Volume 2 rocks in ways Volume 1 just can’t. The Hot Water Music/Leatherface influence is still noticeable on Volume 2, but this album also shows inspiration from Jawbreaker, Quicksand, and Nirvana. We love this album and still can’t believe that we had a hand in its release.

The album can be found at mom and pop record stores, Hot Topic, Interpunk, Shockhound, No Idea, Revelation (RevHQ) as well as digitally on Itunes, Emusic, Amazon, Rhapsody, and more. With the exception of bigger chain stores, you should be able to find the album wherever it is you buy music.

Are you still on the fence about picking up “Volume 2″? Here are just a few reasons/things for your consideration:

  • The album is an absolute rocker that should appeal to fans of Jawbreaker, Hot Water Music, Kiss of Death/No Idea Records, and even Nirvana. Take for example the following mp3s: “Unlaced” (mp3 from the SH site), “Jetbreaker” (exclusive download from Punknews.org)
  • On Thursday, April 2nd, you will be able to listen to the entire album as a full album stream from our friends at Punknews.org.
  • Mike Hale’s lyrics deal with real life and anyone who has experienced heartbreak should find solace in the songs.
  • Mike Hale recently decided to give up life as he knows it (gave up his lease, sold his truck, gave up his job) for life on the road (plans to tour all year long between In the Red and Mike Hale tours). That is truly commendable and anyone who has ever longed to do the same will hopefully find inspiration in Mike’s quest to become a full-time musician. Read about his adventures through his column at Punknews, “For Those Still Standing
  • Matt Glasgow, In the Red’s drummer, could quite possibly be the World’s Tallest Drummer at 6 foot 8. Don’t believe us, google it! We submitted him to the Guinness Book of World Records, but we recently received the news that they don’t recognize height by profession.
  • You can listen to an interview with Mike Hale on one of our favorite podcasts, Issue Oriented. Mike’s segment comes after an interview with this up and coming band I keep hearing great things about, Propagandhi.
  • Not that this should matter, but if people purchase the album this week, In the Red has a chance of making the independent Billboard charts which would be really cool.

We hope you check out the album; we are all really proud of it. IF YOU HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ON IN THE RED’S NEW ALBUM, PLEASE POST A COMMENT. Thanks for all your support.

We took the month of March off, but we are back and better than ever. On Friday, April 3rd, we will be hosting our “Puts the F Back Into Art” Party. This time around, our good friend Vinnie Fasano will be taking over our entire space to show some of his largest pieces of art to date. Suburban Home’s Chad Price (of Drag the River) will be performing a set which should feature a number of new songs which he is currently recording.

We will have complimentary beverages (PBR, Boxed Wine, Mad Dog, Boones Farm), but we are asking our friends to please consider bringing a six pack or bottle of something. Sadly, this will be our last First Friday Party with Mad Dog and Boones Farm. We plan to make a big announcement for our May First Friday Party.

We will have h’ordeurves, too. Right now, we are thinking Nachos, Hot Wings, and little smokies.

Party will begin at 6pm and end at 10pm. We will then take the party to 3 Kings Tavern for the Only Thunder/Revenge tour kickoff show. I hope to see you there.

Date: Friday, April 3rd, starts at 6pm, ends promptly at 10pm (after party at 3 Kings Tavern)

turner

Thursday, April 2nd, Frank Turner, Look Mexico, Chad Price, and the Rooster Brothers will be performing at the Marquis Theater. Words cannot begin to describe how excited I am for the show as I love Frank Turner, Look Mexico, and of course Chad Price.

Our friends at Soda Jerk Presents and the Marquis Theater have been so kind as to allow us to give away 5 pairs of tickets to 5 lucky individuals. I have been trying to think of the best way to give away these tickets and have decided to award them to the folks who pick one of my five favorite Chad Price sung Drag the River songs. Only one guess per person, must be guessed by someone who lives in Denver and plans to attend the show, and when you make your guess, I need you to include your full name (and email if you comment on our blog). You can submit your guess either in the comments section of this blog post or on the Vinyl Collective Message Board.

Winners will be contacted via email and their names will be put on the guest list plus 1. Good luck.

You can purchase tickets at this link. DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW. People will be talking about this show for sometime to come. I dno’t even know how to express how lucky Denver is to have this show. Frank Turner flies back to London after this show.

Jawbreaker – Etc. double LP

My rep sent out a quick email saying they had “Etc” back in stock and I tried my best to get 100 copies, but since the repress is only 372 copies (odd number) we are only getting in 50. These will be gone in a heartbeat so make sure you snap this up quickly. And don’t ask me why they keep pressing such small numbers. One of their past reasons was that it was all the print they had, but man, this is killing me. Great collection record and absolutely essential.
