PO: FLEET FOXES mykonos 7", IRON AND WINE around the well triple LP

FLEET FOXES “Mykonos” 7″
IRON AND WINE “Around The Well” triple LP

We have 2 upcoming releases from subpop.
Fleet Foxes “Mykonos” is the centerpiece of the “Sun Giant EP” released last spring and included with the popular vinyl version of the band’s debut “Fleet Foxes”. Beautifully packaged in a gatefold sleeve, the single is backed with a previously unreleased cover of the traditional folk ballad “False Knight On The Road” made popular by Steeleye Span and Richard Thompson.

Iron and Wine’s triple LP collects songs ranging from out-of-print to never-before-released and spans Iron And Wine’s earliest sessions which yielded the band’s debut (2002′s “The Creek Drank The Cradle”) through material recorded for 2007′s “The Shepherd’s Dog”. The double disc is broken into two sections. The first is an assortment of hushed home recordings, unedited and raw, and the second highlights moments captured in the studio with the help of other musicians, friends, and engineers. THIS HAS THEIR INCREDIBLE COVER OF “SUCH GREAT HEIGHTS” (Postal Service).

I am pretty stoked for both of these. Should have both in stock by the end of May.

Song of the Day: Digger "I Want My Hat Back"

Today’s installment of “Song of the Day” is brought to you by yours truly, Virgil Dickerson.

Friends, today, i am turning back the clocks to 1996 and rocking out with one of my favorite bands from that year, Digger. This Pennsylvania pop-punk outfit came out swinging for the fences with this debut and I wore out the compact disc. Their live show was just so much fun and this was back when they had Phil who was such an energetic co-frontman. I really miss these guys and while thinking of a song for this fine Monday afternoon, my head conjured, “I Want My Hat Back”. This song is a pretty goofy anthem about getting your hat back but at the time, it was my jam. Listening to the album in 2009, it still holds up. I miss these guys. To me though, Powerbait was their best album and as much as I liked their later records, I always compared them to this record. if anyone talk to Chris Benner from Digger, tell them I say hi.

I think I am waxing nostalgic since I am gonna see the Nobodys tonight who were labelmates of Digger.

The album, “Powerbait” is available in the VC store, you can find it here.

The song, “I Want My Hat Back” is the 4th track off of “Powerbait”. You can download the song here.

As the Song of the Day continues, you can find past installments here. You will also notice that each week’s streaming player will have each Song of the Day added so that by week’s end, there will be 5 songs. We hope you like the track.
