Sale #9, Dear and the Headlights Spring Cleaning Sale

DEAR AND THE HEADLIGHTS “Small Steps, Heavy Hooves” dbl LP black vinyl
DEAR AND THE HEADLIGHTS “Small Steps, Heavy Hooves” dbl LP translucent gold vinyl

Our good friends, Joey and Zach from Clay Street, have been cool enough to green light a Dear and the Headlights sale. The double LP was previously $16.99, but for a short time, we will sell the double LPs for $10.99 which is a hell of a deal. I don’t know who of you are familiar with this band, but they have released 2 fantastic records on Equal Vision. This album is their debut and when I first got into it, I told everyone I could tell that the album reminded me of a great middle ground between Bear Vs. Shark and the Counting Crows. The album is really great. And for this sale, we are taking $6 off for the double LP. I highly recommend picking up both of their albums as their newest album is also really good (I still favor this first one).

PO: LAWRENCE ARMS "Ghost Stories" LP maroon vinyl

LAWRENCE ARMS “Ghost Stories” LP maroon vinyl

Most of you know about the Interpunk exclusive of “Ghost Stories” on white, but while that repress happened, Asian Man also repressed Ghost Stories on maroon. I am not sure how many they made, but I would guess either 300 or 500. We have a pre-order for you Arms’ fans and should have the vinyl within a week or so.

MISCHIEF BREW Restocks

MISCHIEF BREW “Songs from Under the Sink” LP
MISCHIEF BREW “Jobs in Steeltown” 7″
DAVID DONDERO/ MISCHIEF BREW “Two Boxcars” split 7″

Just got in a box from Fistolo Records (Mischief Brew’s own label). If you haven’t heard me say anything about these guys, know that I love Mischief Brew. They incorporate elements of Flogging Molly, Swingin Utters, and Against Me to bring you gypsy fueled punk rock. The songs have hooks, rock, and have so much energy. If you are looking for a new band and happen to be a fan of the previously mentioned bands. I would start with “Songs from Under the Sink”, that record is just amazing from start to finish. The other records that Fistolo have released are currently out of stock.

Back to Work Vinyl Collective update

Thanks for everyone’s kind words about the plague that has given my family a hard month. The good news is that Steph is feeling better (although not 100 %) and today, I am back at the office. Being the very out of shape “athlete” I am, I pulled a muscle in my Quads from playing on my kickball team, the Suburban Home Shotgunators. I feel like such a loser that I pulled said muscle while warming up. Coincidentally Justin jammed his fingers and Josh pulled his groin (I guess we need to stretch a bit more). Speaking of our kickball team, we had jerseys made and have some extras which we are gonna put up in the store. They turned out really sweet.

I did get to see Gaslight Anthem on Friday and that was an absolute treat. They performed flawlessly and the sold out crowd was singing along to almost every song. I had a great hang session with the guys; they all rule and have the best attitude about their success. It looks like they will be recording their side of the Under the Influence split in August which will be amazing. And they mentioned that they will be writing around 40 songs to record their next album. 40 songs!!! Holy Shit. I also saw William Whitmore play last night and he was amazing as always. We will soon be announcing the details of a split 7″ we are doing with him (as Wayword Sons) and Sam Lowry. The split is really great. And tonight some of us from the office are going to see Fake Problems play a free show. Stoked! I have not seen them yet since the release of their new album. Expect videos shortly on our youtube channel.

Here are some other things to be aware of:

  • We will be posting the repress of Lawrence Arms “Ghost Stories” on maroon. We will have 100 copies coming in.
  • We will have the replacements for the 4th Thrice 10″ tomorrow and will begin shipping the Thrice box sets this week (Finally!)
  • We got in NOFX’s latest album on vinyl and CD. We will begin shipping those today.
  • We got in a ton of restocks from Fat, Mischief Brew, Art of the Underground, and Super D (major label vinyl) which will be posted shortly.
  • We got in all the Tim Version prohibition starts tomorrow and will be sending those out shortly, too.
  • Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground re-release will be posted tomorrow; the new pressing will be on Translucent Frosty Blue vinyl.

I think that is it for now, although I am sure there are things that I haven’t mentioned. I hope everyone is doing well and hope everyone is healthy. Stay away from that Swine Flu, that stuff looks nasty.

My family has the plague and it is affecting our work

Friends, I just wanted to give you a head’s up of what has been going on for the past 3 weeks and what that has meant for Vinyl Collective and Suburban Home. 3 weeks ago, I was diagnosed with a Viral Respiratory Infection which had me sick and bed-ridden for 9 days. I got a little bit of work done during that time and our short-handed staff (minus brandon who was in europe and justin/andy who were on tour with Only Thunder) did a great job of holding the fort down. 2 weeks ago, my 1 1/2 year old niece was admitted into the hospital and had a battery of tests performed to try and figure out why she passed out. While she was in the hospital for half a week, we had to take care of my brother’s other daughter which added a lot to our plate. And this week, my wife, Stephanie has been sicker than a dog. I think she got what I had, but the doctor said she has a really bad case of bronchitis which has her bed-ridden with cold sweats, chills, a cough that won’t stop, and she has had a fever, too; pretty much all the symptoms I have had. Because of this, I have had to spend my days taking care of Logan while she recovers. And because of all of us being sick, there have been fewer posts and releases on VC and Suburban Home, Steph hasn’t been able to get the consignment statements and payments out, the sales which I had hoped to post every day are not being posted, amongts other things. We are just doing what we can to get though each day.

Understand that we should all be healthy soon (god forbid Logan get sick next), and when we are all healthy, we will do our best to get back to doing all the things we do. We have a lot of exciting things in the works and so many ideas brewing that we are excited to get things back to normal.

I hope everyone out there is healthier than my family.

Depending on how steph feels tonight and depending on if my brother can watch Logan, I hope to be at the Gaslight Anthem show tonight.

STEREOTYPERIDER announces final show

stereotyperider

There comes a time in most bands’ careers where they find themselves calling it a day. Unfortunately, this is the decision that the Phoenix based rockers, Stereotyperider, recently made. After being a band for almost 10 years and releasing 3 albums and 2 eps, the band has set their final performance at the Yucca Tap Room on Saturday, June 27th.

Stereotyperider formed from the ashes of two Arizona bands, Mandingo and Adam’s Alcoholics. After self-releasing a CD ep, the band came up to Denver to record at 8 Houses Down. The album that would become their debut, “Same Chords, Same Songs, Same Six Strings” ended up in my lap and I found myself listening to the album over and over again. Having known Mike from Mandingo and Anthony from Sam the Butcher and loving the album, we asked them if we could release that first album. They said yes and the rest has been history. They had been Suburban Home’s longest running act who also released “Prolonging the Inevitable”, “Under the Influence” (the first incarnation of what is now a 7″ series), and their latest (and might I add greatest, “Songs in the Keys of F and U”.

Stereotyperider are one of those bands that I always felt deserved much more than they ever got recognition for. Fusing elements of Punk, Post-Hardcore, and maybe a little Stoner Rock, the band had a sound unlike most others. I never felt like we were the best fit for what we put out as I always envisioned them on a label like No Idea or Jade Tree or maybe Some Records. That said, I have always been proud to have put out their releases.

Anthony will continue to play in the Revenge while it is uncertain what the other members plan to do.

Stereotyperider, you will be missed. With a little luck, I will be able to convince you to drive up to Denver one last time.
