Archive for May, 2009

We borrowed an idea from the cool cats at Hydrahead where they shoot video of new vinyl arrivals. We were bored at the end of the day on a Friday and we decided to do the same with a few new records we had just received, Make Hale’s “Live Like Mine”, Menzingers “Hold On, Dodge” 7″, and Murder by Death’s repress of “In Bocca Al Lupo”. Hopefully our future videos will get better, but at least you can see these new releases and hear us talk a little shop. Plus, you can hear in the background a new Look Mexico demo which sounds amazing.

Lastly, if you can correctly identify the beer I am drinking in this video, you have a chance to win all 4 records (2 Mike Hale LPs, 1 Menzingers 7″, and 1 Murder by Death LP (not the double 10″). The first person to correctly guess the beer I am drinking will win all 4 records. Good luck.

Hope you like the video.

BAD RELIGION “Stranger Than Fiction” LP

Stranger than Fiction gets the vinyl treatment. Not sure if we too have the clear vinyl coming, I assume we do. Not sure how Interpunk got that info, but I guess their reps like them better than they like me. Either way, it is nice to see labels putting Bad Religion wax back in print. Hopefully epitaph follows suit and keeps everything in print. We should have these in mid to late July.

THE DEAD WEATHER “Horehound” dbl LP 180 gram vinyl

The latest musical adventure by Jack White (The White Stripes, The Raconteurs), epitomizes the alt-rock ethic—do the music you love, do it yourself, and do it fast.

The Dead Weather brings together lead singer Alison Mosshart half of the London-based lo-fi post-punk duo The Kills), Queens Of The Stone Age guitarist Dean Fertita, The Raconteurs’ bassist Jack Lawrence, and White on drums and vocals. White also produced the group’s debut album, Horehound, recorded in just three weeks earlier this year at his newly constructed Nashville studio.

An exhilarating mix of punchy blues singing from Mosshart and garage rock with arena ambitions, Horehound introduces the musical whirlwind that is The Dead Weather.

this is so wild to me so see Alison from Discount in a band with Jack White. The world is so small sometimes. I used to be good friends with Alison back in the Discount days and even knew here for a while as the Kills were going along. I haven’t spoke to her in ages, but from the outside, it seems as though she is doing well. I would love to reissue all of those old discount records on vinyl.

YOUNG WIDOWS/ MY DISCO split 7″

If I am not mistaken, this is the pre-order for the 4th of a 4 7″ series. I have no idea who My Disco is, but if you are a fan of the other singles, I encourage you to pick this one up, too.

MUSE “Showbiz” dbl LP
MUSE “Origin Of Symmetry” dbl LP

Just got word about the vinyl pressings for “Showbiz” and “Origin of Symmetry”. Word is they are double LPs but other than that, I don’t have a lot of info. Not sure if these were ever pressed before, but I am curious why Absolution isn’t being pressed. That might be my favorite Muse album. What is yours?

We are expecting these around 7/21.

JONESIN’/ DUDE JAMS split 7″ black vinyl
JONESIN’/ DUDE JAMS split 7″ opaque orange vinyl

New from Dirt Cult! Jonesin is ex-Down in the Dumps and picks up right where that band left off. For fans of early 90’s east bay punk rock mixed with the gruffness of Leatherface. Dude Jams plays spiteful pop punk that’s like a mix of “Beat Off” era Queers and Off With Their Heads.

I am having a great morning, excited for the weekend, and I thought I would share with you some of the things going on in my head. As always, there are so many things to talk about, but here are a few things to put under your cap:

  • Unfortunately, today is Josh’s last day at Vinyl Collective/Suburban Home. We plan to show him a great last day and hope that all of his future endeavors are amazing. Thanks for all that you have done for us Josh.
  • We will be getting in Mike Hale “Lives Like Mine” LPs today or Monday (FINALLY!!!). We will also be getting in the Menzingers 7″ and the repress of Murder By Death’s In Bocca Al Lupo (different, less expensive packaging on the repress). Expect a pre-order on that MBD soon. Buy the Mike and Menzingers records if you have not already done so.
  • We will soon have copies of the latest Gaslight Anthem 59 sound singles but will be waiting on Side One’s ok to post them for pre-order. We should have 100 copies for sale.
  • We will also soon be posting pre-orders soon for the Kid Dynamite tribute that has a million bands on it. From the looks of it, there are gonna be a ton of great covers to check out.
  • We will soon be announcing a bunch of new pre-orders from It’s Alive. There are some great records including releases by the Gateway District, Copyrights/Dopamines, Dazes/Wimpys, Manges, Copyrights/Methadones, and more.
  • Throughout the next few days starting today, we will be posting pre-orders for records by Muse, Dead Weather, Bad Religion, Young Widows/My Disco, Oneida, Dr Dog, and lots more. Super stoked to get those Muse albums on wax. I am also geninely curious about Dead Weather.
  • If all goes well, we will be filming Chuck Ragan performing a few new songs from his upcoming album and sharing it with all of you. We now have a nice office HD video camera and plan to occasionally film performances for you to enjoy. Regardless, we will be shooting video from tonights show with Chuck and Lucero. Can’t wait.
  • I think that is all I have for you for now. We are heading to Tom’s Home Cooking for Lunch, so stoked!

GO NUGGETS! I GUARANTEE A GAME SIX VICTORY TO FORCE A GAME 7 IN L.A. WHERE WE WILL TAKE THE SERIES!

NEKO CASE “Blacklisted” LP

Just got word that this fantastic album has been repressed. Still black vinyl, this time with no gatefold (kind of a bummer), but the price is a little lower. This along with all of Neko’s albums are fantastic. Own them all.

ANTI FLAG “The People Or The Gun” LP black vinyl

The seventh full-length Anti-Flag release starts off fast and furious with “Sodom, Gomorrah, Washington D.C. (Sheep in Shepherd’s Clothing)” as Chris #2 (bass & vocals) takes aim at those who use the Bible to control the masses, spitting out the lyrics with an urgency that makes his voice crack. If the album’s second track, “The Economy is Suffering… Let It Die,” isn’t nearly as reckless, it’s just as impassioned, as Justin Sane (vocals & guitar) weighs in on the government bailouts of 2008, asking “Where are all the bailouts for the homeless and the poor?” It’s just the sort of question bands like Anti-Flag were born to ask. And there are plenty of those moments on “The People or the Gun.” Before they’re through, in fact, they’ve fired off a number of their most explosive political broadsides from the punk-rock trenches yet. Digital download card included in every LP!

TRAGEDY “Nerve Damage” LP red ink vinyl TOUR EDITION

Imagine the picture in this post but instead of silver foil stamping, it has red. That my friends is what the tour edition of “Nerve Damage” looks like. There are 400 pressed from what we hear and we will have 10 coming in early next week. Great band, great record.
