Chuck Ragan Punknews Interview reveals his top albums of last year

Chuck Ragan is one of our favorite musicians on the planet. How could he not? Between Hot Water Music, Rumbleseat, and his solo material, there isn’t a record we don’t all love. So it goes without saying that we have the utmost respect for him and his opinions. So when asked recently his Top albums of the last year, we were obviously honored to have had a few releases on our label mentioned. Here is an excerpt from the interview:

Top 5 (6) albums of the last year? Gaslight Anthem’s ’59 Sound, Bruce Springsteen’s Working on a Dream, Gasoline Alley, Tim Barry’s Manchester, all of Austin Lucas’s stuff, Ben Nichols The Last Pale Light is absolutely absurd, it’s so good.

Besides Tim Barry and Austin Lucas, we too love the Gaslight Anthem and Ben Nichol’s albums; looks like I am gonna have to check out Gasoline Alley. Thanks Punknews for posting the interview and thanks Chuck for the kind words. Excited to see you in town this next week and can’t wait to hear the new album.

Read the interview here. See Chuck on tour soon with Lucero. And know that today, Chuck finishes his upcomging album; we plan to charm the hell out of him with hopes that we might be able to do an exclusive color of the vinyl through Vinyl Collective. And if Chuck’s endorsement inspires you to check out Tim’s and Austin’s albums, here are links to buy:

Tim Barry “Manchester” LP/CD
Austin Lucas “Somebody Loves You” LP/CD, pretty much everything Austin Lucas

New Drunk Dial embeddable player/New Drunk Dials

You had to know that when Ralph engineered our embeddable streaming player, we would eventually bring that technology to the Drunk Dial Hotline. Rejoice in the fact that our Drunk Dial player can now be shared on any site that allows html. Put it on your myspace bulletins or blogs, put it on your own blog, put it wherever you can. Use it to announce that this weekend, you and all your friends should call the drunk dial hotline and share with them examples of what drunks around the world are doing.

Enjoy this latest batch of drunk dials and remember, your friends don’t want you calling them at 3am. WE DO! Put 303-800-6DUI (6384) in your phone and call us this weekend. Make sure you think about a topic before calling and calls are better if they are not super long! Have a safe, drunk weekend!

That’s right friends, our Under the Influence streaming player can now be shared anywhere HTML code can be posted. Just click “Embed This Player On Your Site” and the code will automatically be copied and you can paste it on your blog, on your myspace bulletins, wherever html can be posted. Help us spread this player wherever you can. Thanks.

In other Under the Influence news, we will be receiving the Two Cow Garage / Jr. Juggernaut UTI late next week, and we should be getting the Lemuria / Off With Their Heads UTI the week after that. Thanks for your patience on waiting for these records to arrive.

In yet more UTI news, we are about to announce our 10th Under the Influence 7″ and for those of you who remember, we have been planning on compiling the first 10 volumes of the Under the Influence 7″ series for a very special CD release. The 10th Under the Influence really depends on who finishes recording first, here is what we are looking at for a possible 10th volume:

Joey Cape / Mike Hale (we have Mike’s song, just waiting on Joey)
O Pioneers!!! / New Bruises (We have the New Bruises track, just waiting on OP!!!)
Ruiner / Hawks and Doves (Got the Ruiner track, just waiting on Gared/Hawks and Doves)
Kevin Seconds / Kepi Ghoulie (Have the Kevin Seconds track, but not sure where Kepi is on his)

I will keep you posted on how it all pans out. In one last bit of Under the Influence news, I want to share a few future editions of the Under the Influence 7″ series:

Able Baker Fox / In the Red
Gatorface / Anchor Arms
Bridge and Tunnel / Monikers
Loved Ones/Cheap Girls

I also have commitments from a number of really amazing artists, but we are just waiting for the right split partner; expect more announcements soon.

Visitor to VC: Chris Mason of Dirt Cult/Shang-A-Lang

Chris Mason of Dirt Cult Records and Shang-A-Lang (5-20-09) – A few weeks back, Chris had mentioned that he would be in Denver doing some training. I told him to stop by the office. He stopped by yesterday and we got to hang out, have a few beers, and talk shop. I played him the Yesterday’s Ring album because it came up in conversation. He educated me on Dirt Cult and the fact that he is also in the band Shang-A-Lang who have like a hundred releases coming up. If you are not familiar with Dirt Cult Records or Shang-A-Lang, I think a lot of you would dig what they do. Chris is a super nice guy, too.

If any of you know him, please find out if he went to go see Big Business last night. I guess he has been a lazybones and hasn’t been going out to shows this week, I told him he would deserve a big kick in the pants if he didn’t go see Big Business last night.

Pink Couch Session with Coody of Ninja Gun "Front Yard Screamers"

Our friend David who is responsible for the Pink Couch Sessions just sent me over a link for the session Coody of Ninja Gun did. This was recorded when Ninja Gun recently toured through New York with Mike Hale. The night before, Coody and company met none other than the legend, Willie Nelson. Coody actually dedicates his session to the Country great. For the session, Coody records an acoustic version of “Front Yard Screamers (Kitchen Kissers). Damn, I love that song. Thanks David, thanks Pink Couch Sessions.

Vinyl Vlog XI w/ Joey Cape and Jon Snodgrass

Vinyl Vlog S1E11 w/Joey Cape(Lagwagon) & Jon Snodgrass(Drag the River) from Vinyl Vlog on Vimeo.

Our friends at Vinyl Vlog spent a little time with Joey Cape and Jon Snodgrass on their tour through the East Coast. The interview is great and goes how I thought it might. Anytime you get Joey and Jon together talking about music (or pretty much anything), this is what you can expect. They are kind of like brothers in that manner of going back and forth. Joey and Jon talk about vinyl, cassettes, upcoming releases, and much more. I highly recommend checking out the video, not only for the great interview but also for the chance to win a signed copy of the Joey Cape/Jon Snodgrass “Who Wants to Get Down” 7″. Also, Joey lets the cat out of the bag who Mike Hale is covering for his side of the Under the Influence split 7″ that they are doing together. I, myself, found out that Joey is doing a split with Kevin Seconds. I will have to find out how to get a hold of those.

Thanks Vinyl Vlog for always supporting what we do. We truly appreciate you featuring our artists on your video blog.

I will make a more formal announcement when it gets closer to the date, but we are sponsoring our favorite New England drunken video bloggers by supporting a DJ night they are hosting. The Video Vlog folks are gonna be giving away gift certificates from Vinyl Collective, records from Suburban Home, and records from our friends at Anchorless. Mark June 22nd on your calendar for what should be a rad event. I think they are also encouraging people to sell records and set up tables. Sounds like fun.
