O PIONEERS!!!/NEW BRUISES Under the Influence announced

We are excited to announce the tenth release of our Under the Influence series. The series finds bands we love recording songs that have influenced their song writing. The artwork has been put together by the very talented Mitch Clem and Nation of Amanda who have been asked to make their own renditions of the album art that the song being covered originally appeared. For this tenth release, O Pioneers!!! are covering “American Heart” by Piebald and New Bruises are covering “Nu Bruises” by Superchunk. The 7″s will come with a coupon that will allow you to download the tracks as mp3s. 1,500 7″s will be pressed (500 of white vinyl, 1,000 translucent blue vinyl)

The Pre-order will be posted Today, July 30th at 2pm MST. On this day, we will also be pre-ordering Volume 11 (Joey Cape/Mike Hale) and Volume 12 (Kevin Seconds / Kepi Ghoulie).

Volumes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 are all out of print (some copies are still circulating at various distros). Volumes 6, 8, and 9 will soon be out of print. Volumes 1-10 will be compiled as a limited edition CD pressing. After suggesting we make a new cover art for the compilation, we got a lot of great suggestions. Expect news soon. Listen to the tracks from the first 9 volumes and view all the amazing art on the Under the Influence page we have set up. Although most of the 7″s are out of print, you can still find the digital tracks on your favorite digital site (Itunes, Emusic, Amazon).

Vinyl Collective update on Pre-orders Today (please read) – Under the Influence, O Pioneers, Achilles, more

Today is gonna be absolutely nuts with pre-orders; friends, you don’t even know! Well now you do cause this update will make everything crystal clear. Today, you can expect pre-orders of:

  • Joey Cape / Mike Hale under the influence 7″
  • O Pioneers!!! / New Bruises under the influence 7″
  • Kevin Seconds / Kepi Ghoulie under the influence 7″
  • O Pioneers!!! “Limp Bizkit covering Limp Bizkit” 7″
  • Achilles “Hospice” LP
  • Turkish Techno / Anchor split 7″
  • Infected “Awake In Our Own Graves” 7”
  • Dude Jams / Too Many Daves split 7”

Damn, that’s a lot of 7″s. Friends, the pre-orders will begin at 2pm MST (that is 1pm Pacific, 4pm Eastern). If anything, these pre-orders will educate everyone on their time zones or at least my time zone. We will have the posts up before then, but the actual links will not be live until 2pm MST. Also know that the 3 Under the Influence 7″s will be available in 2 colors each (500 of one, 1,000 of another). They have been selling out too quickly and I didn’t want to do 3 colors for each. I hope everyone understands. Also know that the 3 ADD releases (Turkish Techno/Anchor, Infected, Dude Jams/Too Many Daves) are all available in a ton of colors some of which are extremely limited. That is all I will answer, the posts for each release should answer your other questions.

One other thing, feel free to add that Heavy Heavy Low Low LP for free to any order where you buy something else. Help us clear out our warehouse and get a free record in exchange. May I also recommend picking up the other available under the influence 7″s? Those are all quickly going out of print. See you at 2pm friends.

Benny Horowitz of Gaslight Anthem loves NINJA GUN!

In a recent interview with Punknews, Benny Horowitz of The Gaslight Anthem talks about what he is currently listening to:

Punknews: So what’s in your cd player right now?
BH: I’ve really grown fond of Jack White stuff recently. Not as much the White Stripes, I really like the Raconteurs records he did. I think those are awesome. I really like the newest Radiohead record, the one they released themselves. I’m still listening to the new Ninja Gun record, probably close to every other day. It kills me. I love that record. The newest Off With Their Heads record I like quite a bit. Minus the Bear put out that acoustic record which I dig. The new Isis is out – I dig the new Isis. And then the classics.

Benny is such a rad person without saying that, but it is great to see people in other bands becoming fans of Ninja Gun. “Restless Rubes” is such an amazing album. Other bands that have recently mentioned their love for Ninja Gun include the Swellers, Chris Wollard of Hot Water Music, Joey Cape, and Fake Problems. If you find yourself a fan of one the mentioned bands and you haven’t checked out Ninja Gun, today is your day. Below is our full album stream, take a listen and let us know what you think. If you like what you hear, please share the stream with others. Thanks Benny.

Ninja Gun will be supporting The Gaslight Anthem for 4 shows in September right before our 14th Anniversary. So stoked.

Visitor to VC: Empty Orchestra

Empty Orchestra (7-23-09) – Nice folks from Michigan who have put out a few records including an LP we carry in our store that was released by Thinker Thought (Jared from Scout’s Honor’s label). They had invited me to their show the night before, but I could not make it. I told them to stop by the office and hang out. They came by and we had a nice hang session. Pretty much all of the members of EO shop at Vinyl Collective which is awesome and Steve (holding the Neko Case LP) even picked up a few of his pre-orders. They gave me a few records, I gave them a few promos, and I thought I had said bye at least for some time. Then as I was riding my bike to work on Monday, I saw them walking by. Looks as though their van broke down and they had taken it to get fixed. They thought it was fixed so they headed to Seattle when the van broke down again, but since the shop was closed over the weekend, they had to bring it in on Monday. I hope they made it out to the West Coast where they are supposed to be touring with Sangre Sangre. If you get the chance, make sure you go and see them play. They are playing with the Suburban Home tour during the Bermuda Mohawk Fest coming up which should be fun. Thanks for stopping by the office and thanks for your support Empty Orchestra.

PO: WEATHERBOX "The Cosmic Drama" LP

WEATHERBOX “The Cosmic Drama” LP

From the Doghouse one sheet: “Weatherbox’s knotty, post-stoner guitar-rock jams unravelin complex, algorithmic ways that only Brian Warren’s warped mind can conjure, summoning the ghosts of indie rock past” says Alternative Press Magazine. The Cosmic Drama is only being released digitally and on high quality colored vinyl.”

I read somewhere that you can download half of the album through Alternative Press. Anyone check this out? How is it? Let me know what this sounds like if it is recommended listening. I do like the homage to Kurt Vonnegut with the cover art.

What’s everyone’s favorite Vonnegut book? Mine is “Galapagos”, “Breakfast of Champions” is my 2nd favorite.

PO: WHITE SHIT "Sculpted Beef" LP, GIRLS "Album" LP

WHITE SHIT “Sculpted Beef” LP
GIRLS “Album” LP

WHITE SHIT White Shit is the mastermind of Andy Coronado (Monorchid, Skull Kontrol, Wrangler Brutes) on guitar and concepts, along with Jared Warren (Karp, Big Business, Melvins) on vocals and Cody Willis (Murder City Devils, Big Business, Melvins) on drums and Tits on bass. This 9 song “Mini LP” comes to you as a 12″ and is an absolute hardcore crossover faster than sludge piece of work. White Shit don’t want you too not think, they have a keen sense of design and politics that may seem shocking at first, but with a name like White Shit, you get what you pay for.

GIRLS Built on the powerful songwriting of Christopher Owens and the ethereal production of Chet “JR” White, Girlsrecorded Album in a variety of bedrooms and rehearsal studios in their adopted hometown, San Francisco. Theresulting 12 tracks are the perfect San Fran summer record, evoking a narcotic, sunny afternoon in DoloresPark, yet promising the eventual hangover of summer’s departure.Album is self-described as “honest, loose, ethereal, obnoxious and perfect,” it is a sincere tribute to themajesty of great pop music and the healing power of rock and roll.

New to VC: Spinnerette, We Were Promised Jetpacks

SPINNERETTE “S/T” LP
WE WERE PROMISED JETPACKS “These Four Walls” LP

SPINNERETTE Vinyl LP pressing. 2009 self-titled debut album from former Distillers front woman Brody Dalle. Also including bandmate Tony Bevilacqua and ex-Ret Hot Chilli Peppers and Queens of the Stone Age members Jack Irons and Alain Johannes, this is a mature, experienced Punk Rock record with strong melodies and Pop flourishes, which is reminescent of bands such as Siouxsie and the Banshees, Eagles of Death Metal and the Pixies. Includes the single ‘Baptized By Fire’.

WE WERE PROMISED JETPACKS Formed in Edinburgh in 2003, WE WERE PROMISED JETPACKS tasted success early when they won their high school’s battle of the bands competition. Discovered by FATCAT through their countrymen (and now labelmates) Frightened Rabbit, the foursome had already gotten attention and airplay from KEXP, XFM, and the BBC – before any official release – on the strength of a widely-circulated 3-song demo. Like fellow Scotsmen Frightened Rabbit and The Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks bring emotional intensity to the forefront in their immensely appealing rock anthems. Adding nimble, driving rhythms and bristling tension into the mix, they unfold their songs into effortless-seeming choruses imbued with romanticism and pop sensibility.

PO: SPOON "Got Nuffin" 12",DESTROYER "Bay Of Pigs" 12",WILL HOGE "The Wreckage" LP

SPOON “Got Nuffin” LP
DESTROYER “Bay Of Pigs” LP
WILL HOGE “The Wreckage” LP

These were a few last minute additions to one of our distributors’ catalog. The Spoon record is limited to only 1,000 copies so jump on this if you are a fan. These are gonna be gone and people will end up freaking out. The Destroyer single, too, is limited to 1,000 copies.

SPOON This 12″ may or may not contain a new single from Spoon. This single may or may not be entitled “Do You Know the Muffin Man?”. This single may or may not appear on Spoon’s next record.

DESTROYER Bay of Pigs is the longest of Destroyer songs and Destroyer’s first foray into ambient disco. The song was recorded throughout the winter of 2009 with Destroyer collaborators/members John Collins and David Carswell at JCDC Studio in Vancouver. Bay of Pigs is an account of the 1961 American invasion of Cuba. The music for Ravers was played entirely on analogue synthesizer, and recorded in April 2009. It explores some of the more meditative realms of 20th Century classical composition. The song is a casual rumination on parties, political parties, madness and suffering (for one’s art).

Will Hoge’s music stirs your soul and yields a genuine truth so rarely found in today’s music,” says AntiMusic.com. Will Hoge returns with his upcoming release The Wreckage after being sidelined by a life-altering traffic accident. Like many of his musical heroes, Hoge has emerged stronger, refocused and more dedicated to his craft. Will’s lyrical and musical intensity as well as his passion for life is revealed in this stunning collection of uniquely crafted songs. The first single, “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” is a personal testament to the power of great American rock and roll.
