The Tim Barry/Frank Turner split 7″ is going strong, too. A number of bargain priced records through our sale or in the case of the Bollweevils, just super low priced have all done well, too.

videos: Drag the River live at Brian and Liv's Wedding

I feel very lucky to have been invited to our friends, Brian and Liv’s wedding. Not only was it a beautiful ceremony and reception, but Drag the River played. The weather was touch and go, at one point, there was a hail storm, but between you and me, Drag the River brought the thunder. Here are two videos I took before my little one had a melt down. Good news though, someone took some videos of Drag after I left and posted like 7 videos on their Youtube channel. Check those out here.

And yes, Jon Snodgrass rocked the tux the entire set. It was so rad.

TP/PO: CHAD PRICE "Smile Sweet Face" LP/CD/Deluxe Set

CHAD PRICE “Smile Sweet Face” LP Transparent Brown vinyl w/ free Poster, Button
CHAD PRICE “Smile Sweet Face” LP Transparent Black vinyl w/ free Poster, Button
CHAD PRICE “Smile Sweet Face” DELUXE SET (LP,CD,T-shirt,Coozie,Poster,Pint Glass,Button)
CHAD PRICE “Smile Sweet Face” CD w/ free poster, button

I will keep it simple, Chad Price from Drag the River (and formerly of ALL) has recorded his solo debut. The album should surpass any expectations you might have from Chad’s debut; the songs are simply brilliant. Chad is one of my favorite songwriters, one of my favorite vocalists, and just a plain badass. I am so excited to be releasing this record and hope you consider pre-ordering the album.

If you pre-order the album in any format, you will receive a code that will allow you to download a 4 song Chad Price digital EP. 2 songs from the album and 2 live versions of songs from the album. This will hopefully hold you over til we have copies in around the beginning of October. The album will be in stores on October 20th, but we will send you copies as soon as we get them.

The vinyl is extremely limited (300 on Transparent Brown vinyl, 300 on Black vinyl). When the vinyl sells out, we will repress all future pressings on black vinyl. There will also be only a small number of deluxe sets which will contain an LP, a CD, a T-shirt, a Poster, a Button, A Coozie, and a Pint Glass. The first 100 pre-orders of vinyl or CD will get a free Poster and a free Button.

Your pre-order will enter you for a chance to win a test pressing. Good luck.

"The Best of The Yellow Rake Zine" BOOK by BRIAN POLK

“The Best of The Yellow Rake Zine” BOOK by BRIAN POLK
BRIAN POLK “Turning Failure Into Ideology” BOOK

Brian Polk, Author of the highly recommended “Turning Failure Into Ideology” just brought over his latest project, the Best of the Yellow Rake.

The Yellow Rake, one of Denver’s longest running, most prolific zines, is releasing its first book, The Best of the Yellow Rake.

“The Yellow Rake is kind of like what I had always hoped The Onion would be: really smart but totally hilarious with witty articles that are insightful… This is a really good read, being smart and funny, and managing not to be preachy at the same time.” —Maximum Rock ‘N’ Roll

The Yellow Rake began in January 2004 in a booze-soaked backroom by a group of ragtag, activist writers who lamented the impending death of the punk rock zine. In typical DIY punk fashion, the group wrote, drew, and decorated the hand-folded, hand stapled publication and distributed it themselves via their own bicycles. Seventeen issues and countless articles, comics, and reviews later, The Yellow Rake still forges ahead in its literary struggle against intolerance, pettiness, and other human stupidities.

“We basically set out to write against all the wrongs in the world,” says Brian Polk, head writer and editor in chief of the zine. “And we knew we had to do it ourselves since no one else was going to publish what we wanted to write.”

The Best of the Yellow Rake documents the first five years of the zine’s existence with its greatest columns, interviews, comics, animations, and poems. Notable contributors include novelist/High Times writer/CNN & NPR contributor Jason Flores-Williams, The Onion A.V. Club contributor Jason Heller, DIY poet/founder of the Fast Geek book empire Charles “the City Mouse” Fasano, Westword cartoonist/founder of the Blammo comic series Noah Van Sciver, Westword cartoonist/activist illustrator Nate Stone, and novelist/founder of The Yellow Rake Brian Polk.

After five years and 17 issues, the photocopied, hand-stapled zine known to Denver cultural warriors as The Yellow Rake continues to embody all the grit, humor, and audacity of a punk culture notorious for instigating self-reliance and creative self-determination…

LOOK MEXICO Tour Has Holes, Needs Your Help, Please RT @lookmexico

Suburban Home Recording artist, Look Mexico, recently had a really great tour fall through at the last minute and instead of sitting on their asses, they have decided to tour and make it out to Suburban Home’s 14th Anniversary Weekend and the Midpoint Music Festival. The trouble is that at this point, they have a ton of holes and need to fill them as soon as possible.

Can you please take a look at the following dates, if you see the words NEED HELP, please consider any option for the guys to play that makes sense geographically. If you know of a cool show going on and think they might be able to get on, if you know someone who throws house shows, if you are in a band that might be able to set up a show, or you know of a cool bar or brewery where people always convene, let them know. Email Look Mexico lookmexico at yahoo.com if you think you can help. Hit them up via twitter @lookmexico, write them on their myspace page.

I know that these pleas for help are easily ignored because we are all busy doing our own thing, but imagine being out on the road having to fill a gas tank, feed our bellies, drink beer and losing boat loads of money in the process. It is so hard touring as a smaller, independent artist in America. I think America is a great Country and all, but when you go to Europe, the promoters treat you like a person; they feed you, they give you beer, they give you a place to stay. I don’t want to go in a long rant, but while all of us have a nice place to sleep on most nights, smaller bands give it their all and put themselves on the line financially and mentally for the hope of finding new fans and friends. Please help. And please pass this onto others. Thanks.

One More Thing About CHAD PRICE "Smile Sweet Face" Pre-order

As you know, tomorrow, Friday, August 21st at 2pm MST, we will be posting the pre-order for Chad Price’s debut album, “Smile Sweet Face”. With this pre-order, we will be testing out a new piece of technology at Vinyl Collective/Suburban Home. Our good buddy Robb from Limbeck has configured our store’s back end so that we can bundle downloads with purchases. This will allow us to begin working on our own download store, but it will also allow us to bundle downloads with purchases of physical product. This release will find us testing out the technology as we will be bundling a 4 song digital Chad Price EP with the purchase of “Smile Sweet Face”. You will receive 2 tracks from the album and 2 live tracks of songs on the album. We hope this will give you something to listen to while waiting for the pre-orders to arrive.

Make sure you have listened to the mp3 for “Cursed” we posted a few days ago.

Boys Night Out plans one-off show in Toronto [Punknews.org]

From a recent Punkews post, it has been reported that: Burlington, ON-based Boys Night Out have announced a one-off show after a lengthy period of inactivity. The band explained:

We’re not saying this is our last show ever…but, it also doesn’t mean that we’re going to start touring again. We’re going to play one night in Toronto, with our five original members (connor, jeff, dave, rob and ben) and we will be playing Broken Bones and Bloody Kisses, and Make Yourself Sick from beginning to end.

The date and venue have not yet been confirmed but the band is aiming for October 24th.

Because of this, i am bringing back our 2 for 1 Boys Night Out sale where you get both Make Yourself Sick and and Broken Bones and Bloody Kisses. Get the 20 remaining sets while you still can. We also have Make YourSelf Sick on sale for $8 each.

2 for Tuesday (BOYS NIGHT OUT “Broken Bones” 180 gram,”Make Yourself Sick” LPs)
BOYS NIGHT OUT “Make Yourself Sick” LP blue vinyl
BOYS NIGHT OUT “Make Yourself Sick” LP blue/black vinyl

Just so everyone knows, I have been given the ok to press a really small number of “Trainwreck”, but I haven’t begun to think about moving forward yet. It is 52 minutes which means it will end up having to be a double LP which isn’t cheap. Will keep you posted.

Punknews reviews In the Red/Anchor Down/Bastards of Young/Drunken Boat / 7" Update

Dante3000 was so kind as to review the In the Red/Anchor Down/Bastards of Young/Drunken Boat 4 way split 7″ and had really good things to say, I might even go so far as to say he liked what he heard. He gave it 4 out of 5 stars and said this of the 7″:

It’s impossible to please all the people all the time (that’s what some old president said [maybe it was fool, I’m not a historian]) but with a 7” that contains four new songs, by four awesome bands, includes a digital download and costs only $5, it’s hard to imagine anyone not liking this. Of course, with literally eight different vinyl/cover variations, I’m sure someone will complain. So, while this 7” may not unify the world (or even the punk community), maybe it will make some people pretty stoked.

In other news about this 7″, the test pressings have been approved and should be in our hands in about 2 weeks. The covers and inserts are already printed and sitting in our warehouse.
