PO: THE ALBUM LEAF “A Chorus of Storytellers” LP

THE ALBUM LEAF “A Chorus of Storytellers” LP

A Chorus of Storytellers was recorded by Ryan Hadlock in the frosty month of February 2009 at Bear Creek Studio just outside of Seattle. It was mixed in the decidedly warmer month of June in Reykjavik, Iceland by Birgir Jon Birgisson. Those paying attention will notice that this is nearly the same way their last album Into the Blue Again was recorded. There is, however, one fundamental difference between this and every other album The Album Leaf has ever recorded. For the first time in five albums, The Album Leaf recorded as a whole band. In the past, almost every instrument was performed by principal songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jimmy LaValle. This time the whole band was invited to participate and the result is their best record yet.

We will have copies in hand early next week.

COUNTERFIT Super Amusement Machine for Your Exciting Heart LP Clear Vinyl

We used to carry this record a really, really long time ago, as we used to be the exclusive distributor for Negative Progression Records. This record holds a really soft spot in my heart as I loved this band, loved the guys in the band, and loved to see them live. Here’s an interesting tidbit about this album’s cover art. The album title and the cover art were taken from a pachinko machine that we keep in the office. It was thrown out of a pachinko gambling center in Tokyo and a friend of mine grabbed it out of a dumpster. As you can see from the artwork, the pachinko machine has the broken English phrase “Super Amusement Machine For Your Exciting Heart”. Counterfit loved the phrase and the pachinko machine so much, they commissioned a friend to take photos and ended up calling their album S.A.M.F.Y.E.H. Man, I miss this band.

If you love emo/indie rock like No Knife, Mineral, and hell, Look Mexico, I highly recommend you pick up this album. It is so good and the price is really nice.

I forgot to add that we will have a test pressing contest for this release. Order a copy and be entered to win a test pressing.

Stream TIM BARRY'S "28th & Stonewall" on AOL's Spinner.com / Aversion.com review

If you visit AOL’s Spinner this week, you can listen to the entire full album stream of Tim Barry’s latest, “28th & Stonewall”. This full album stream is kind of a landmark event for our little label as the media conglomerate has never taken an interest in any of our previous releases. Please take a moment, visit the site, and give the album a spin. We’d love to hear what you think. I personally think that “28th & Stonewall” is becoming my favorite of Tim Barry’s recordings.

“28th & Stonewall” is officially in stores tomorrow, Tuesday, January 26th, 2010. If you have pre-ordered the CD from us, we are already shipping the CD orders. If you pre-ordered the vinyl or deluxe set, we will send you a link to download the entire album tonight and plan to start shipping pre-orders on either Friday, January 29th or early next week. Both the colored vinyl and the deluxe sets are close to selling out so get one soon if you are considering picking up either. If you haven’t pre-ordered the album from us, we encourage you to pick it up from wherever you purchase records. Most independent retailers should have it tomorrow, as should most digital retailers, and starting next week. Hot Topic/Shockhound should have it in stock.

Aversion.com just posted a review of “28th & Stonewall”. You can see the review here. The album received 4 out of 5 stars, here’s an excerpt: “It may be a little lonely when you’re as staunchly independent as Barry. Then again, he doesn’t have to answer to a boss, a manipulative girlfriend, a credit-card company or to a job that’ll serve him a pink slip to save management’s year-end bonus. Welcome to the new America, the new freedom. Tim Barry’s playing your song.” – Matt Schild

Vinyl Collective Top 10 Sales of the past week

TIM BARRY "Prosser's Gabriel" mp3 of the day on Spinner.com

Today, Friday, January 22nd, Tim Barry’s “Prosser’s Gabriel” is available as a FREE download as part of AOL Spinner’s mp3 of the day. Just visit Spinner.com and click MP3 of the Day in the upper left hand corner. You can listen to the song, download it via Itunes, and purchase it from Amazon.com. It has been mentioned a few times, but the song “is a historical account of a failed slave uprising in Barry’s hometown of Richmond, Virginia, even drew the attention and praise of the descendents of song’s real-life protagonist.”

The song is from Tim Barry’s upcoming album, “28th & Stonewall” which will be in stores on Tuesday, January 26th. If you pre-ordered the CD from us, it has already shipped to you. If you pre-ordered the vinyl or deluxe set, we will send you a link to download the entire album the night before the album’s release and send you both the vinyl and deluxe set as early as the end of next week. The album will be available wherever records and will be on sale at Shockhound.com (CD is only $6.99).

It is pretty exciting for our little label that Tim’s album is receiving attention from a number of bigger outlets that don’t typically feature our artists.

We are so damned excited to bring you news of Look Mexico’s first single from their upcoming album, “To Bed to Battle”. The single, “You Stay. I Go. No Following” is an incredible song in its own right, but they enlisted the help of their good friend, Frank Turner, who sings the bridge on the song that takes the track to a whole other level. The 2 song single features the b-side, an acoustic version of “They Only Take the Back Roads” which is exclusive to this release. The single will be available as a 7″ with digital download, T-shirt with digital download, and digitally. The release date is February 23rd, 2010, but we will send the 7″s and shirts out as soon as they come in. Test pressings have been approved, we should have records in hand by the first week of February, if not sooner.

If you pre-order the 7″, Shirt, or digital release, you will receive an email shortly after you have completed checkout with a link to download both songs.

The 7″ will be pressed in a very, very limited run. We are pressing 300 on transparent blue vinyl with silk-screened cover (being printed by our friend Dustin Garret) and those 300 will also be hand-numbered. We are pressing an additional 300 copies on black vinyl with printed fold-over covers. 7″s will come with a digital download coupon. Once this pressing is sold out, it will be history. The shirts will be printed on asphalt Gilden shirts.

We will soon be announcing details for Look Mexico’s upcoming album, “To Bed To Battle” which should be out around the end of March.

We could not be more excited about working with such an incredible band who are about to release their greatest work to date.
