PO: PINHEAD GUNPOWDER LP Re-issues (Compulsive Disclosure,Goodbye Ellston Ave,Shoot the Moon,Carry the Banner)

Recess continues to reissue the great records of the classic Lookout Records’ catalog and today, we are proud to offer the Pinhead Gunpowder re-issues. You might be wondering why Jump Salty isn’t listed below. Word has it that the printing on the jackets did not turn out well so the release has been pushed back. When we get the ok to post Jump Salty, we will. That is probably my favorite Pinhead Gunpowder album. What is yours? Carry the Banner might be my #2, but I do love them all. If you haven’t already pre-ordered these, make sure you get a copy. These records are essential punk rock.

Will Recess be re-issuing Cleveland Bound Death Sentence? Man, i would love to see that on vinyl.

TP/POs: GLOSSARY,KEVIN KERBY, and JOHN PAUL KEITH AND THE 1-4-5s

GLOSSARY “Better Nature” 180 gram deluxe vinyl LP
Kevin Kerby + Battery “Beautiful and Bright” LP
JOHN PAUL KEITH & the 1-4-5s “Knoxville Town” 7″

I am really excited to be working with Travis at Last Chance Records. Last Chance Records is a very like minded label based in Little Rock, Arkansas. They help coordinate shows for our bands, they help promote artists, and with their label, they have been putting out some killer releases (and more importantly, some new vinyl). If you are a fan of the Americana/Alt-Country releases that we put out, you have to put this label on your radar. Here is a brief overview of each release:

GLOSSARY “Better Nature” 180 gram deluxe vinyl LP

This is one of my favorite records over the past few years. I saw them open for Lucero and Jessica Lea Mayfield a little while back and have since seen Todd (pedal steel player) play in the revival tour, with Chuck Ragan, and with Lucero. This record takes a little bit of Kings of Leon, a little bit of soul, and a little bit of Country and every song is a hit. You can download this entire album for free at Glossary.us. While you are there, make sure you download Joey Kneiser’s album which is also available for free. Both records are amazing. Glossary are about to drop a new album which is also amazing and will be touring like crazy to support it. Last Chance plans to put the new album out on vinyl, too, but for now, pick up this album. It is on 180 gram vinyl, limited to 500 copies, and sounds unbelievable.

Kevin Kerby + Battery “Beautiful and Bright” LP

Kevin Kerby has played in a number of bands back in the day, but now he releases albums under Kevin Kerby + Battery. He’s a peer of Ben Nichols in the Little Rock scene, was in Ho Hum during it’s major label tenure, formed Mulehead and toured throughout the 90′s with some success in the Alt-Country movement. Joey Kneiser of Glossary covers “Paper Mills” which is off Kerbys first solo album. I haven’t spent as much time with this album as I should, but it sounds really good. i will be posting a full album stream shortly.

JOHN PAUL KEITH & the 1-4-5s “Knoxville Town” 7″

Travis sent me John Paul Keith’s latest album, “Spills and Thrills” and man, it is one kick ass record. It bumps and it moves and it makes you want to grab a handle of Jack Daniels and cut a rug. I am absolutely bummed out that I got to the Lucero show late and didn’t get to see John and the 1-4-5s play. I have been listening to this record so much lately and think that everyone should check these guys out. It’s got some honky tonk Country, some slower tunes, and there is definitely some Jerry Lee Lewis all over this record. Anyone know if “Spills and Thrills” is out on vinyl? The first in a series of limited edition John Paul Keith and the One Four Fives picture sleeve 45′s on Last Chance Records, “Knoxville Town” b/ Memphis Girls” is limited to 500 copies. Get yours before they’re gone! We should have a stream of this up soon, too.

We will have Test Pressing Contests for Kevin Kirby and John Paul Keith. Order a copy of either record and be entered to win a test pressing.

PO: SOUTHSIDE STRANGLERS "Too Much TV" 7"

SOUTHSIDE STRANGLERS “Too Much TV” 7″ Colored Vinyl
SOUTHSIDE STRANGLERS “Too Much TV” 7″ Black Vinyl

New from Grave Mistake: The debut 7″ from Richmond, VA’s SOUTHSIDE STRANGLERS slashes your face with six cuts of raw, bare bones rock and roll! Featuring Kenny and Brandon from GOVERNMENT WARNING on vocals and guitar (respectively), but don’t expect any high speed 80′s hc rippers … mix equal parts of ’60s garage rock (SONICS) and ’70s punk rock (PAGANS, DMZ) and you’ll get an idea of what the SOUTHSIDE STRANGLERS are serving up. Abrupt and to the point; driving guitars, tasteful leads, powerful rhythm, and vocals that are as vicious as they are soulful. Not to be written off as an experiment or side project … SOUTHSIDE STRANGLERS are the real deal, and this is only the beginning.

Vinyl Vlog features Mike Hale and Austin Lucas

Vinyl Vlog Season Two Episode Seven w/Mike Hale & Austin Lucas from Vinyl Vlog on Vimeo.

Our friends at Vinyl Vlog recently put up a new episode and this time, they featured Mike Hale and Austin Lucas. Along with a discussion about vinyl and selling records on tour, Vinyl Vlog posted a live performance of Mike and Austin performing “Lives Like Mine”. The guys also have a contest to win a Pulley test pressing and review a Maps and Atlases record purchased on Vinyl Collective. Thanks for the support guys.

I highly recommend checking out this video and supporting everything these guys do. I hear they have shirts up in a store set up by the folks at limitedpressing.com.

Just got in a box of Moving Mountains. Do you have this record? What do you think? Been seeing lots of great press and lots of great tours for these guys.

Suburban Home to re-release MICAH SCNHABEL's "When the Stage Lights Go Dim"

This past October, we announced that Micah Schnabel of Two Cow Garage had recorded his first solo album and that we would have copies of the limited edition CD pressing in our store. We sold through all 200 copies that came our way. Micah sold the rest of the pressing while doing dates on tour and we have since fielded our fair share of questions on how to get a copy. While the first pressing is sold out, we are excited to announce the re-release of “When the Stage Lights Go Dim” on Suburban Home.

The artwork has been changed as you can see. We will be releasing the album on CD, Vinyl and through a handful of deluxe sets. We have set a street date of March 9th, 2010 and expect to have pre-orders up around the middle of February. If you missed out on the live recording of Two Cow Garage’s Suburban Home 14th Anniversary performance, we will again offer a free download of the recording with orders of Micah’s album.

As we prepare the official Suburban Home release of “When the Stage Lights Go Dim”, Micah and Two Cow Garage will begin recording a new album. I cannot wait friends.

I feel like I should add that Micah’s solo album isn’t just a bunch of Two Cow Garage songs played acoustic. The album has its own feel and having had the opportunity to see Micah play live, he absolutely rocks out his songs in a way that is foreign to most singer/songwriters. The album made my tops of 2010 and it made a number of other top 10 lists. Autopsy and Romeo both picked “When the Stage Lights Go Dim” as their number 1 album of 2010. Also note that we at Suburban Home are gearing up our 2nd Suburban Home mixtape using Micah’s album as inspiration for the song selections.

PO: RETRIBUTION GOSPEL CHOIR "2" LP

RETRIBUTION GOSPEL CHOIR “2″ LP

Retribution Gospel Choir is a rock trio founded in 2007. The group features Alan Sparhawk on guitar and vocals, Steve Garrington on bass and Eric Pollard on drums and vocals. Alan also fronts the band Low with his wife, Mimi Parker, and Steve also plays bass in Low. 2 is Retribution Gospel Choir’s 2nd full-length and Sub Pop debut! Eric Swanson recorded these performances at Sacred Heart Studio in Duluth, Minnesota, and Matt Beckley mixed the recordings at Faux Rock in Sherman Oaks, California.

We should have copies in hand early next week. The CD has the artist’s title embossed, hopefully they do the same with the vinyl.

PO: BEACH HOUSE "Teen Dream" Dbl LP/DVD

BEACH HOUSE “Teen Dream” Dbl LP/DVD

Recorded in upstate New York, in a converted church called Dreamland with producer/engineer Chris Coady (who has worked with TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Blonde Redhead, and a bunch of others) Teen Dream is the third album from the Baltimore-based duo Beach House, and their Sub Pop debut. The new album gives voice to a full universe of unbridled imagination, and the manifestation of Teen Dream has been a welcomed and all-consuming obsession for Beach House the past 9-12 months. Both the CD and LP formats of Teen Dream will arrive packaged with a companion DVD featuring a video for each song on the album, each by a different director.

We will have copies in hand next week.
