Tour: AUSTIN LUCAS Southern dates towards Harvest of Hope / "Collection" album details

Austin Lucas has a handful of Southern dates booked for a tour that will have him playing the Harvest of Hope festival. Shortly after these shows, Austin will be playing a number of dates in Austin, Texas, for this year’s South by Southwest Festival. If you see a date near you, I could not recommend more hilghly that you need to go. Have you ever seen Austin play before? Oh man!

We are putting the finishing touches on “Collection” which is (you guessed it) a collection of tracks from Austin’s past releases which will include tracks from the “At War With Freak Folk” 10″, his tracks from his split 7″s with Chuck Ragan, Frank Turner, and The Takers, and one track that has never been released. Stay tuned.

NineBullets posts SXSW Podcast, Front Porch Musings post SXSW Playlist

With SXSW less than one month away, I think everyone is getting really excited, making their schedules, and a few close friends have even posted Podcasts/Playlists.

NINEBULLETS.NET FEBRUARY PODCAST: SxSW EDITION

I am currently listening to Nine Bullet’s latest podcast, one that was inspired by the bands they hope to see at this year’s SXSW. It sounding pretty damn good. Along with Suburban Home acts, Micah Schnabel and Austin Lucas, there are excellent tracks by Drive By Truckers, Lucero, Joe Pug, Glossary, American Aquarium, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, and lots more. I know for a fact that I will be doing a lot of hanging with the Nine Bullets crew, I am bummed though that I will be missing their SXSW party on Wednesday night as I get in really late that night. You can download the podcast here. I personally subscribe to their podcast feed so that whenever a new one is posted, it downloads into my Itunes.

F*ck You, It’s Friday! – Playlist 31

While listening to the Nine Bullets podcast, I downloaded the latest “Fuck You It’s Friday” playlist from Front Porch Musings. As you might have read, we were invited to help host a SXSW party with the good folks at Front Porch Musings, and this week’s FYIF playlist features tracks from our upcoming party. Consider it a preview of what you can expect at our party with tracks by Two Cow Garage, Look Mexico, Austin Lucas, The Only Sons, State Champion, Glossary, and American Aquarium. It should be a great listen. One complaint Front Porch Musings: Where’s the Micah Schnabel track? and I’m not sure how to best remedy this, but when I download the playlists in Itunes, it is hard to track and group all the songs on the playlist since it keeps all the info associated from the track in your Itunes. Maybe consider changing the album name or grouping with the name Front Porch Musings, that way, we can easily have the songs in one place. I guess that was 2 complaints (my bad). You can download the playlist here.

I am considering making a mixtape with tracks from our upcoming SXSW party and other SXSW artists that we are excited to see and handing them out at our party. Whether or not you are going to SXSW, I highly recommend you listen to these podcasts/playlists.

Test Drive the new Suburban Home Records' site, Stream Micah Schnabel's album

Ralph and Brandon have been fine-tuning the Suburban Home Records’ site and today, we are really proud to share with you all the hard work they put in. Please take a minute and visit Suburban Home Records Dot Com. While you are there, be sure to check out our new Listening Station that Ralph designed. You can stream the upcoming re-release of Micah Schnabel’s “When the Stage Light Goes Dim” and pretty much the entire Suburban Home catalog. If you want to stream one of the albums in the player, just drag the cover art to the left and it will begin playing. Want to stream something not shown? Just find the pull down menu in the lower right hand corner and it will pull up the album you want to hear.

PO: KEVIN SECONDS / JONAH MATRANGA split 7" (hand #d/1000)

KEVIN SECONDS / JONAH MATRANGA split 7″ (hand #d/1000)

This vinyl release features four brand new previously unreleased songs from Jonah Matranga and Kevin Seconds. Aside from the recordings, Kevin Seconds also designed the artwork with additional layout by graphic designer Jillian Grenier. The limited pressing of 1000 copies is hand-numbered.

I recently did a trade with Black Top Records and have 24 copies on their way to me (should have them in about a week or week and a half).

Is it me, or is Kevin Seconds starting to give Chuck Ragan a run for the J Church award recognizing how prolific one artist can be?

TIM BARRY featured in Style Weekly and The Punk Site (highly recommended reading)

Tim Barry was the subject of two features that I highly recommend everyone spend the time to read. “Ride Fast, Live Slow” in Style Weekly (a weekly from Richmond, VA) is probably the best feature I have ever read about any of our artists. The writer spent so much time researching all there is to know about Tim Barry and the piece serves as a brief written history of Tim Barry and Avail. If you have ever wanted to learn more about Tim, look no further than this feature.

The other recommended read comes courtesy of ThePunkSite.com who interviewed Tim shortly after an incident at a show that left Tim Barry with a broken hand. Tim is quoted as saying

“I was standing on stage and I was saying that I wrote this song (“Wait at Milano”) with my buddy Travis in mind because he is chronically depressed and I wrote it for him before he passed away and never told him it was about him. And I was quickly explaining that this song is about now and living lightly and more kindly in ways that perpetuate good so that there are things left for the people coming after us and as I’m trying to explain this the fucking guy just keeps heckling me brutally, so I invite him onstage. I said no one can hear you so I gave him a microphone. So I said now that you have had your say I’m going to explain to you again what this song is about. So I repeated my words “My best friend Travis killed himself” and he replied “well he doesn’t sound like much of a friend” and I just beat the living shit out of him on stage. And I am not at all proud of that because I tried deeply not to be the person I used to be because I used to fight a lot. It’s not healthy. I just snapped you know. I still don’t know what he meant. But he certainly couldn’t envision what was going through my head when he said that.”

If for some reason, you are not familiar with Tim Barry and his releases on Suburban Home, I can only hope that these features spark your interest. I’m sure most of you reading this post are well familiar with Tim, but even if you are, you should read these pieces. Tim recently finished a string of dates with Against Me and Ninja Gun and will soon be touring nearly all of the United States. Tour dates are below.

Yes, these took forever, but I am very very excited to say that they are done and they look and sound amazing. If you didn’t pre-order this 10″ and you are considering doing so, understand that only 300 were pressed on red vinyl. If you want to give the songs a listen, here is a full album stream:

TP/PO: MICAH SCHNABEL "When the Stage Light Goes Dim" LP/CD/Deluxe Set/Digital

MICAH SCHNABEL ìWhen the Stage Light Goes Dimî DIGITAL ALBUM (flac)

This is Micah Scnhabel’s (of Two Cow Garage)’s debut album, “When the Stage Light Goes Dim”. The album was originally pressed by Micah’s father, John, in a really small pressing (only 500 CDs). The pressing quickly sold out and I asked if Micah and John would be ok with Suburban Home re-releasing the album. Luckily, they said yes. Brandon Proff (of Suburban Home) put together new artwork for the album and we decided to put the album out on vinyl. The album will be pressed on LP, CD, and available as a deluxe set with LP, CD, Poster, Pint Glass, Coozie, and Button. The vinyl will be pressed in an edition of 1,000 copies (500 on Green w/ White vinyl (minty green), 500 on black vinyl). After the first pressing sells out, we will press all future pressings on black vinyl.

If you picked up a copy of our 2nd Suburban Home mix tape, you had the opportunity to hear 2 songs from Micah’s album. The album surpassed every expectation I had for the album and I was expecting great things from the Two Cow Garage front man. I had the opportunity to see Micah perform solo and he absolutely rocks live which isn’t too shocking if you had ever seen Two Cow Garage live. In between recording sessions for a brand new Two Cow Garage album, Micah will be doing dates around the U.S. to promote the album.

TP/PO: ROCKY VOTOLATO / CHAD PRICE split 7"

ROCKY VOTOLATO / CHAD PRICE split 7″ BOTH COLORS
ROCKY VOTOLATO / CHAD PRICE split 7″ Blue Vinyl
ROCKY VOTOLATO / CHAD PRICE split 7″ Black Vinyl

We have been talking about putting out a split 7″ between Rocky Votolato and Chad Price for some time now and are excited to announce that this idea will soon be reality. Originally intended to be an under the influence 7″, it was later suggested that we release a split 7″ featuring a track from Chad Price’s most recent album, “Smile Sweet Face” as Rocky Votolato is a huge fan of the track, “This Cross”. Rocky contributed the original and exclusive track, “Transparent” to round out the split 7″. We were set to go as is, but when Rocky was in town, I asked if he would be into covering a song by Chad and having Chad cover a song by Rocky. Both agreed. Rocky recorded a cover of the Drag the River track, “Best & Worst”, a song that Chad Price sings from the “Garage Rock” 7″ and “Bad at Breaking Up” collection CD. Chad recorded a cover of the Rocky Votolato track, “Silver Trees” from “The Brag and Cuss”.

The 7″ will be pressed in an edition of 1,000 copies, 500 on transparent blue and all other pressings will be on black vinyl, starting with 500 on black. The 7″ will be bundled with an mp3 coupon. We are planning to release the 7″ on March 13th, 2010, but if all goes well, we will have copies sooner. It is an honor to be doing this split 7″. I have been a long time fan of Rocky Votolato and both Chad and Rocky are long time friends.

PRE-ORDER the record and you will be entered to win a test pressing. Good luck.
