ROCKY VOTOLATO “True Devotion” LP

Rocky Votolato writes graceful, understated, unpretentious songs, demonstrating that simplicity is still a viable option for accomplished songwriters. His last two releases, Makers and The Brag and Cuss, found him exploring and paying homage to the folk and country music that shaped his early life in Texas (Alternative Press described the former as “the disc Ryan Adams keeps threatening to make but never quite delivers,” and Harp praised his “harmonies that would make Gram and Emmylou proud” on the latter). True Devotion, his new album, is a passionate, stripped down, and mostly acoustic reflection on moments from his current life; showing us where he is, where he has just come from, and where he’s going. Walking the line between autobiographical fact and fiction, True Devotion is deceptively simple, peppering impressionistic narratives with moments of lyrical wisdom that can knock the wind out of you. Features 12×12 16-page lyric booklet. Digital download included.

I’ve only listened to the album all the way through once, but I think this is gonna be on my top 10 for the year. Makers is by far my favorite, but I think that I am already digging this new album more than the Brag and Cuss which I liked a lot.

The 7″ will come with an mp3 coupon that will accompany the 7″. If the vinyl is delayed for any reason though, we will send you the mp3s before the street date of 3/16/2010.

Rocky Votolato “True Devotion” LP - Second Nature is releasing the latest album by Rocky Votolato on vinyl. The vinyl is slated to show up around the first week of March (maybe a little later). I listened to the album yesterday and think it sounds pretty damn good. I highly recommend you check out our back catalog of Rocky Votolato vinyl. Second Nature has released nearly all of the Rocky catalog on vinyl and they are all essential, Makers being my absolute fave.

Well, it should be known that we think the world of Dead Broke Records. They put out really great punk records and if you find yourself a fan of labels like No Idea, Kiss of Death, Fat Wreck, or ADD, I highly recommend giving the following streams a test drive. SUBURBAN HOMES RECORDS TEAMS WITH SAN FRANCISCO BLOG AND SALOON TO PROVIDE SXSW SHOWCASE

Suburban Homes Records is pleased to announce that it has joined forces with relatively new San Francisco based blog Front Porch Musings (www.frontporchmusings.com) and relatively old Grant & Green Saloon, also located in San Francisco. The three will be sponsoring a South By Southwest showcase fittingly named “Suburban Home Records & Friends” on Saturday March 20th from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM at Friends bar located at 208 E 6th Street in downtown Austin. The line-up will include Suburban Home artists Two Cow Garage from Ohio, Austin Lucas from Indiana, and Austin transplants (by way of Tallahassee) Look Mexico. Our friends will include The Only Sons from the southern-rock hotbed of Murfreesboro, TN; Kentucky’s favorite State Champion; American Aquarium out of Raleigh, NC; and another Murfreesboro staple, Glossary.

The show will be kicked off at 10:30 AM with Two Cow Garage’s Micah Schnabel featuring songs from his solo debut “When The Stage Lights Go Dim.” Following Schnabel will be The Only Sons who have seen a great amount of success from 2009′s “Steel Hearts,” and are also gaining steam for their upcoming release “American Stranger.” Label-mates State Champion will take the stage from there promoting 2010′s much anticipated album “Stale Champagne” which will be a fitting way to close out the morning as the Mimosa buzz wears off and the beer starts to flow like water. The afternoon will get started by Austin’s own Look Mexico, blasting tracks from their forthcoming album “To Bed to Battle” (being released 3/23/10). Suburban Home troubador Austin Lucas will take the stage from there, touring with a full backing band for the first time ever. On the heels of their sixth full-length release “Feral Fire” veteran rockers Glossary will come next, and their performance will surely be as highly anticipated as their new album. The show will be closed out by Two Cow Garage who will have just wrapped recording for their 5th yet to be titled album.

Joey Cape just posted an mp3 from his upcoming split album with Jon Snodgrass. The track, “To All My Friends” features Joey and Jon singing the song together. The 10 song album features Joey and Jon performing Lagwagon and Armchair Martian and one incredible original by Jon that is sure to be a hit, “Spiderman, Wolfman”. Here is what Joey says of the split:

Having played many shows together, Joey & Jon recorded the Liverbirds split album to capture the atmosphere of them performing live on each other’s songs. Currently they are touring Europe and the UK with Tony Sly. For now the album is only available at those shows, but starting April 1st you can buy it directly from this web store. Joey is releasing the album on CD and digitally on his own label. We have worked it out with Joey to license the album for release on vinyl through Suburban Home/Vinyl Collective. The CDs are done now but we won’t have vinyl done til April/May. Pick up the album though, it is so good. I cannot stop listening to it.

One of my favorite bands on the planet are about to release a brand new album. Murder By Death, what can I say about a band that records incredible albums, performs one of the most compelling shows, and spends so much attention to making sure their albums get the proper vinyl release. This new album finds the band sparing no expense as they offer a Fancy version and a Simple version. You almost have to laugh that their simple version is a pressing on 200 gram vinyl. The Fancy version will feature a bound 10 page color booklet, screen printed and embossed gatefold jacket, and a 24 x 24 inch poster, a sticker, and a feather…yes, a feather. We only have 24 copies of the fancy version coming in, but if you ask me, whatever version you get, the album will sound fantastic. You can stream a new song from the upcoming album on Punknews. Can’t wait to hear the new record. Their last, “Red of Tooth and Claw” is one of my absolute favorite records.

We are expecting vinyl around the end of March, the album’s release date is April 6th. Super excited that the guys are touring through Colorado and will be down at this year’s SXSW.

Make sure you pick up a copy and when doing so be sure to check your collection for their older records. We have a lot of their vinyl in stock now.

Catching up on a few more recent Asian Man releaseses. If you haven’t picked these up, I highly recommend checking them all out. Smoking Popes are one of my all time favorite bands, but I am not too familiar with a number of these tracks. I am definitely more excited about the reissues of their major label albums. We also will be getting in the new Riptides and Apers. I am not 100 percent certain, but it appears as though Asian Man will be pressing vinyl mostly on black with little or no colored vinyl. Should have vinyl in next week.

As we clear out more and more records through our clearance sales, we continue to find copies of records that we didn’t realize we had copies of. Recently, I found that we had 10 copies of the Rx Bandits double 10″, “…and the battle begun”, 10 copies of Get Up Kids “Something to Write Home About”, 4 copies of Get Up Kids “4 Minute Mile” on clear vinyl, and 10 copies of the Reatards “Not Fucked Enough” which unless I am mistaken is out of print.
