Vinyl Collector of the Day, Tim Krysko

Today, I bring you today’s Vinyl Collector of the Day, Tim Krysko. I have actually known Tim for a very long time as he used to run Punk International, a great site focused on…. you guessed it, punk rock from around the globe. The site was later renamed Wreck the Place Fantastic and Tim also had a weekly post on Punk News that featured a new international Punk Rock act. It’s interesting to see that this many years later, Tim is still very passionate about international punk rock and is actually living in China (he switches back and forth from China and Canada and he keeps his collection in Canada).

Tim took the time to answer questions about why he collects vinyl, what record he would like to see pressed, his most expensive purchases, his most prized possession and more. Thanks Tim for taking the time to answer these questions. We hope you have a great time reuniting with your records this summer.

SH/VC items available through Limited Pressing Auctions

Now that Interpunk has taken over the fulfillment of our mailorder, we found ourselves left with a few thousand records that don’t have a home. We would like to find homes for all of these records. We have decided to utilize Limited Pressing’s Auctions to find homes for all these records and will be posting each release starting at 99 cents each. We will be posting out of print records, new records, some CDs, and other odds and ends.

If you purchase more than one record, we will give you a discount on shipping. If you have ever considered posting your records for sale in Limited Pressing’s auctions, this might be a good time. Hopefully listing our items will help to create more eyes on the auction portion of their site. List your items, too, and benefit from the extra eyeballs.

If you haven’t checked out Limited Pressing yet, I highly recommend signing up for a free account and taking advantage of all they have to offer.

We have 80 items listed so far, but we hope to list between 50 and 100 items every day until we have sold nearly everything. I recommend placing a bid on any items you have interest in. You will never know if some of the items end at really low prices. I have a ton of great records that I plan on posting, too.

There are 80 active Auctions on Limited Pressing from Suburbanhome

My favorite Alkaline Trio albums (in a particular order)

Someone posted a thread on this topic on our message board so I figured I’d post a similar topic on the Vinyl Collective blog. I have to be honest that I am not as big of an Alkaline Trio fan in 2010 as I was in 1998. I actually helped book some of Alkaline Trio’s first shows in Colorado. A funny footnote is that they opened for The Fairlanes and Pinhead Circus who had joint album release shows. We had a record store called Bakamono and I got to witness first hand the impact “Goddamnit” made on our little punk rock scene. Every time Alkaline Trio came back to Colorado, their shows got bigger and bigger. With each new album, the band got better and better. Then they signed to Vagrant and got super huge. I’ll be honest that for me, there will never be a better era of Alkaline Trio than when they were on Asian Man. I know that this can be debated, but here is my list of favorite Alkaline Trio albums. What is your list of favorite albums?

1. S/t (or Mixtape)
2. Maybe I’ll Catch Fire
3. Goddamnit
4. Remains
5. From Here to Infirmary
6. Good Mourning
7. Crimson
8. Agony and Irony
9. This Addiction

Please post your list in the comments of this post or on the original message board thread (or both).

You can catch up on your Alkaline Trio collection at Interpunk or through our friends at Asian Man.

Vinyl Collector of the Day, Greg Daniels

As I had mentioned yesterday, the response to our Vinyl Collector of the Week has been overwhelming. I’ve decided to feature a new Vinyl Collector every day until we run low on submissions at at that point, we will post them weekly.

Today, I am happy to bring you our latest Vinyl Collector of the Day, Greg Daniels. I have known Greg for many, many years. Some of you may know him from when he played in Vaux who released a number of incredible records which have been criminally overlooked on the vinyl format. Greg has been collecting forever and used to frequent the Vinyl Collective offices to pick up records. Greg took the time to answer questions on why he collects vinyl, records he would kill to own, his recent purchases, his most prized possessions, and he even asks if anyone would be interested in putting out the Vaux catalog on vinyl. I highly recommend reading Greg’s Collector of the day feature. Thanks Greg for answering our questions.

Also, Greg is in a band called Glass Hits, they just released a 7″ which isn’t yet available online. Expect it to be available soon. Listen to Glass Hits here.

Vinyl Collector of the Week, Jim Dunn

Since posting our request to get submissions for our newly branded Vinyl Collector of the Week, we have received a ton of great submissions. I might even have to switch the feature to Vinyl Collector of the Day. Jim Dunn is our first Vinyl Collector of the Week. He lives in Pittsburgh and has the Beatles to thank for getting him started in collecting vinyl. It looks as though Jim has a fondness for all that is 90′s alternative rock, but it is interesting to see his recent purchases based on some of his favorite records (thanks for picking up the Look Mexico 7″). Read on as Jim discusses his most prized records, the record he spent the most money on, and what record he would love to see pressed. Thanks Jim for answering our questions.

Remember, all you have to do to be considered for our Vinyl Collector of the week is fill out the following questions and send those answers along with a photo of you and your collection to me.

Are You Vinyl Collective's Vinyl Collector of the Week?

Have you ever thought you would make a suitable candidate for Vinyl Collector of the Month? Now that we don’t have as many direct connections with vinyl collectors since Interpunk is handling most of our mailorder, I wanted to open up the distinction to all who are interested in being considered. Also, I have decided to post this weekly. That way, more collectors will be featured.

All you have to do is send me an email with answers to the following questions along with a photo of you with your records. While we can’t guarantee every submission will be published, we will do our best to try.

VC: Your name and the city you live in.

VC: Do you catalog your records online? Where are they? Are you on the VC Message board? What is your username?

VC: How many records do you own?

VC: Why do you collect vinyl?

VC: What was the first record you remember purchasing with your own money?

VC: What is your most prized record in your collection?

VC: What release would you like to see come out on vinyl that hasn’t yet been released?

VC: What is the most you have spent for a record?

VC: What out of print record would you kill to own?

VC: What are your thoughts on color variants? Do you collect any artists in particular?

VC: Do you sell or trade records?
