Pirates Press to Resurrect the Flex-Disc, Thoughts?

From Pirates Press most recent newsletter:

After years of development, scrapped ideas, and disappointment… the time has finally arrived!!

PIRATES PRESS HAS BEGUN TO MAKE FLEXIDISCS!

While we are not yet taking orders from the public, we will be soon!! Stay subscribed to this newsletter for important ordering and product information over the next few weeks!

I’m curious to see your thoughts. Labels, will you be ordering flexi-discs? Vinyl Collectors, will you be buying them? I have a few in my collection, most notably one from Lookout Records that came bundled in an early issue of Punk Planet. I think I might also have the Nobodys/Falling Sickness split as a Flexi-disc. What Flexi-discs do you have in your collection?

I think that if a Flexi-disc is affordable enough, man, it would be great to see them in future issues of Razorcake. Hey Todd, let’s make the first flexi-disc for Razorcake a 4 way split between Tiltwheel, TimVersion, Cheap Girls, and Two Cow Garage!!!

Vinyl Collector of the Day, Dan Forcier

Today, we bring you, Dan Forcier, our Vinyl Collector of the Day. Dan had been thinking about submitting a VC of the Day interview, but he needed a little push. As he puts it, “To urge me into making a submission for this feature (that I would link her to all the time), my lovely and talented girlfriend decided to do a quick post-it note sketch with highlighters of me napping on my bed with beer, my iPhone and of course my records. Even has copies of Jersey’s Best and Hello Bastards hanging on the wall. Pretty fucking accurate.Way better than an actual picture of me with my records!” I have to say that I love the post it portrait. Dan calls Toronto home and as you will read owes a whole deal of gratitude to Dan Yemin for getting his record collection off the ground. Dan answered our questions on the first record he purchased, out of print records he would love to own, his thoughts on colored vinyl, recent purchases, and more.

Dan runs Square Up Records which has released records by Junior Battles, the Kid Dynamite tribute comp, and Brights. From the sounds of it, you will be able to expect more new releases from Square Up soon.

Thanks Dan for taking the time to answer our questions. If you continue to put off answering our questions, just visit this link, and spend a little time to submit your own Vinyl Collector of the Day feature.

Test Pressing Winner – Look Mexico "To Bed to Battle" / Color Clarification

Andrew Bemis – Look Mexico “To Bed to Battle”

Congratulations Andrew, you are the winner of the test pressing for Look Mexico’s “To Bed to Battle”. Due to a misunderstanding, only 5 test pressings were made. We will send it out this week.

If you haven’t picked up Look Mexico’s new album on vinyl, you should do so. We have a few laying around the office so email me if you want to buy one from us. Interpunk has copies, too, but the record will soon be out of print. To clarify the pressing info, 425 were pressed on Salmon colored vinyl and 75 were pressed on Orange as the pressing plant ran out of the pink that made the Salmon color Salmon colored. We have yet to see one of the Orange colored records as they were mixed in with all the Salmon colored vinyl but you can tell if you have them side by side.

Get this record before it is out of print.

Glass Hits – Glass Hits 7" (members of Vaux)

Glass Hits – Glass Hits 7″

A little while back, we had Greg Daniels as one of our Vinyl Collectors of the Day. Greg was in the Denver-based band, Vaux. The feature got a lot of people talking about Vaux and now the guys are thinking about putting out some of their past records out on vinyl. Until then though, we recommend you check out Glass Hits, the new Denver band featuring Greg of Vaux. You can listen/download tracks on their band camp page. The 7″ is limited to 300 copies and is available now.

Matt Skiba – Demos LP Exclusive Brown Vinyl, FREE Patch while supplies last

Matt Skiba – Demos LP (Exclusive Brown Vinyl)

Interpunk has posted an exclusive color on Matt Skiba’s upcoming solo album on Asian Man Records. It’s pretty crazy because Asian Man sold out of a bundle that had 2 different colors of vinyl, Shopradiocast sold out of their color (out of 100), Hot Topic will have an exclusive color, and I am hearing Banquet Records will have a color. If you are keeping count, that makes at least 6 colors. Wow. Interpunk’s color is limited to 300 copies. Get one while you can. This will sell out.

PO: Riverdales – Tarantula LP (Interpunk Exclusive Red Vinyl) / Favorite Riverdales album

Riverdales – Tarantula LP (Interpunk Exclusive Red Vinyl)

The Riverdales are about to release a brand new album through Recess Records. I have not yet heard the new album, but I continue to hear nothing but really great things about the album. Interpunk has an exclusive color (on red vinyl) limited to 300 copies. Expect this variant to sell out. Recess is also pressing the album on yellow vinyl which is available directly from them, from No Idea or anywhere records are carried. You can stream a couple of tracks here.

What is your favorite Riverdales’ album? My favorite is Storm the Streets and if I had to list their albums in top order, it would go something like this:

Storm the Streets
S/T
Phase Three
Invasion USA

I will be listening to Tarantula so we will see where it fits. The Riverdales are coming to Denver! Pretty stoked!

Interpunk's Summer Sale (save up to 50% off on select vinyl titles)

45 Record Adapter Cufflinks

A friend through music, Andy Vasquez, is getting married next year and mentioned these cufflinks. He said he got some that are very similar from somewhere else, but wanted to show me these. At $115, they are too rich for my blood, but wouldn’t you agree that these would make a classy addition to your wedding attire?

Available from Cufflinks.com, here.

Vinyl Collector of the Day, Ryan O'Connor

Today, we bring you our vinyl collector of the day, Ryan O’Connor. Ryan has only been collecting records for a little over a year, but he has been making up for lost time. Ryan took the time to answer our questions on why he collects vinyl, what out of print record he would kill to own, his most prized records, and the most he ever spent on a record. Ryan mentions getting a widow’s late husband’s record collection in trade for work and how he recently wired his house to be able to listen to his records pretty much anywhere in his house (I’m so jealous).

Thanks Ryan for answering our Vinyl Collector of the Day questions. If you are reading this and have not yet submitted your own Vinyl Collector of the Day interview, what are you waiting for? Answer these questions.
