Problems with the Vinyl Collective Message Board

Hey friends, if you’ve visited the Vinyl Collective Message Board, you have no doubt seen the warning of Malicious Software on the message board that could possibly harm your computer. I have my top engineers(Ralph) looking into this. Until it is resolved, I recommend visiting these sites:

Limited Pressing
Nine Bullets [they just posted a new podcast]
The Gathering Festival 11 Trailer
Dogfish Head[my favorite brewery on the planet]

I’m currently at the Denver Airport waiting for my flight to San Francisco. Going to a wedding of a really close friend. It should be a great weekend. I hope everyone has a nice weekend.

United Records – Randomly Mixed Colored Vinyl Cheaper Than Black Vinyl

United sent this out in their most recent newsletter. If you are a fan of the randomly mixed colored vinyl (think No Idea Grey or No Idea Purple), this is a pretty good deal. Not only is the vinyl per unit cheaper, but you don’t have the set up charges normally associated with colored vinyl. I personally am not a super fan of the randomly mixed vinyl, but if you are, this is definitely a great deal.

More info at United Record Pressing.

PO: Jeff Rowe "Barstool Conversations" LP

Jeff Rowe “Barstool Conversations” LP

Our good friend Neil at Anchorless Records has just posted a new pre-order for Jeff Rowe’s debut record. I will let the Anchorless Records’ description below do its thing, but if you downloaded Suburban Home Records Mix Tape Volume 5, listen to track #12; it ‘s called “Kate” and the track is fantastic. I’m looking forward to hearing this whole record.

We are very excited to announce that the pre order for Jeff Rowe’s debut record, Barstool Conversations is now up. All pre-orders will ship out next week!!!

Barstool Conversations is Jeff Rowe’s (Boxing Water, Tomorrow The Gallows) first proper solo record. Rowe sings about the frustrations and angst that comes along with an attempt to rise above a backdrop that’s trying it’s hardest to keep you down. It was produced by Lance Koehler (Tim Barry, Landmines) and features guest vocals from Joe McMahon of Smoke Or Fire. Fans of Frank Turner, Tim Barry, and The Get Up Kids are sure to enjoy this record.

Jeff is hitting the road w/ Landmines in europe this fall, and will be at FEST!!!

PRE ORDER!!! These will ship out before the 8/24 street date!

Red Vinyl: 100

Take 50 Percent Off Any One Regularly Priced LP at Hot Topic (7/29 – 7/31)

Originally posted on our message board, if you print out or show the above image on your cell phone, you can take 50 percent off of any one regularly priced item. I chose to look at it as any one regularly priced LP, but you can decide to look at this any way you wish. In case you don’t know, many of the Hot Topics carry a wide range of vinyl and while they don’t carry every single release we have put out, they have been pretty damned supportive of carrying a number of our vinyl releases.

The offer requires you to be a HT Plus 1 which is free to join and you can sign up at any Hot Topic. I do recommend calling the Hot Topic before hand to make sure their store is one that carries vinyl.

You really can’t beat this offer; let’s say you decide to get a major label LP which might retail at $24, spending $12 makes it feel as though you didn’t just get ripped off.

Vinyl Collector of the Day, Justin Maillet

Justin Maillet is today’s vinyl collector of the day. While I don’t know Justin’s thought process for getting into collecting vinyl, but it almost feels as though the marriage of vinyl and digital formats helped previous CD purchasers to start buying vinyl. Why buy the CD when you can get the vinyl and have the music available on your IPod? Justin took the time to answer our questions about why he collects vinyl, his most prized record (VC helped make this happen), his recent record purchases, thoughts on colored vinyl, out of print record he would kill to own and more. Thanks Justin for taking the time to answer our questions.

The Gamits "Parts" to be co-released with Paper and Plastick

We are proud to announce that The Gamits’ new album not only has a new title, “Parts”, it has a new partner. “Parts” will be co-released by Paper and Plastick, the label owned and operated by Vinnie Fiorello (of Less Than Jake). Our good friend Matt Yonker (of Teen Idols/Bullets to Broadway) reminded us that Vinnie was a big fan of the Gamits and he originally suggested the possiblity of doing a split 7″ with Bullets to Broadway on Paper and Plastick. As the discussion continued, it was proposed that Paper and Plastick be involved with the release of The Gamits’ new album.

Vinnie said of the Gamits, “.. Antidote came out and it caused a tidal wave in my music collection. It eclipsed every other cd in its way – I fell in love with the band all over again – it took all the hooks from their previous records and mixed it with tension and depression- all the things mixing in my head at the time. The Gamits always have been a gem among the music i own and when I had the chance to help out with the new record, how could I not jump at the chance to work with a band that has been my soundtrack…”

We are honored to be able to work with Vinnie and Paper and Plastick. “Parts” is going to blow you away.

The Gamits have finished recording their new album and we expect to have it out in October. The Gamits will be playing their first show in over 5 years on Friday, August 6th and the Bluebird Theater with Only Thunder (one of their last shows) .

You can listen to The Gamits “Antidote” in our listening station.

Video: The Gaslight Anthem w/ Tim Barry covering Lucero's "The War" [Denver]

I am so glad that someone caught this performance on video. I was there and was pretty psyched to see The Gaslight Anthem and Tim Barry covering a song that I absolutely love, Lucero’s “The War”. I had heard they were playing this on the tour and am glad they played it at the show in Denver. Now, I wonder if we could get these guys to record this in the studio as I have a friend who has been working on a Lucero tribute for years. Hmmmm. Either way, watch the video; it is great.

Vinyl Collector of the Day, Cody Ryan

Today, we’d like to congratulate Cody Ryan who is our Vinyl Collector of the Day. Cody calls Salt Lake City home and while I am not the biggest fan of Salt Lake, I do recognize how lucky he is to have an Ikea (you can see by the photo that he has taken full advantage of the their expedit line of shelves). Denver is supposed to get its first Ikea around the fall of 2011. Cody took the time to answer why he collects vinyl, his most prized records, the records that got away from him, his thoughts on colored vinyl, the most he spent for a record, and more. Thanks Cody for taking the time to answer our questions.
