Look Mexico doing dates with O'Brother

After touring much of the United States, Austin Texans (by way of Tallahassee, Florida), Look Mexico have booked some dates with O’Brother. I just listened to O’Brother who have other dates with Circa Survive and the Felix Culpa. The Atlanta band will make for a really good fit with Look Mexico.

Dates w/ O’Brother

8/26/2010 Tallahassee, FL at Club Downunder
8/27/2010 Jacksonville, FL at Jack Rabbits
8/28/2010 Tampa, FL at Summer Jam 6 @ New World Brewery
8/29/2010 Orlando, FL at Backbooth

If you haven’t listened to Look Mexico’s latest album, “To Bed To Battle”, you need to make up for lost time. You can listen via our Listening Station.

Micah Schnabel, Rob Coe (of the Enablers) confirm Suburban Home's 15th Anniversary Weekend

I’ve slowly been getting around contacting the Suburban Home family to see who is coming out for Suburban Home’s 15th Anniversary weekend. While we have gotten a few No’s, we have gotten some AOk’s. Today, I am very proud to announce that joining our 15th Anniversary line up are Micah Schnabel (of Two Cow Garage) and Rob Coe (of the Enablers). I have a few more confirmations to share with you, but below is what we have planned so far. Who’s coming?

Friday, September 10th and Saturday, September 11th at 3 Kings Tavern (in no particular order or night)
DRAG THE RIVER (full band)
TIM BARRY
TWO COW GARAGE
THE GAMITS
I CAN LICK ANY SONOFABITCH IN THE HOUSE
JON SNODGRASS
MICAH SCHNABEL
ROB COE (of the Enablers)
and lots more to be announced soon!

I am working on some 15th Anniversary exclusive vinyl to be sold at the shows. Stay tuned for the announcements.

Saturday, September 11th during the day, we are organizing a brewery tour that will more than likely include Great Divide, Wynkoop, Oskar Blues, Avery, and maybe Upslope. Details to be announced soon.

Sunday, September 12th BBQ/Washers Tournament/Acoustic Sets at The Park – we’ll cook food, drink beer, play washers (and stump), and we’ll have some of the Suburban Home family doing an old-fashioned hootenanny. More than likely at Washington Park, but we are working out the details.

Mark these dates on your calendar, start looking at flights, and know that I am working on a discounted rate at the same hotel we had lost year (Towne Place Suites).

We promise an incredible time and hope you can all make it out to what should be a very special celebration.

Submit Your Vinyl Collector of the Day feature, 2 New Questions added

I’ve recently talked to a number of you who have said that they need to get their VC of the day feature done. I am looking at you Josh Brown and Philippe Lavoie as well as a bunch of others. What are you waiting for? I have been getting lots of positive feedback about recognizing a Vinyl Collector every day and I want to encourage all of you who have been considering submitting your answers to do so. Whether you have 100 records or 10,000 records, everyone has a unique story; we want to read them all.

All you have to do is send me an email with answers to the following questions along with a photo of you with your records. I added 2 new questions that were suggested by Sandy Smith and Josh Brown respectively; if you think of any questions that should be added to future Collector features, post it in the comments. While we can’t guarantee every submission or every question will be published, we will do our best to try.

The new questions are:
VC: What record(s) have you regretted not buying? (Not one you should have ordered – but actually had in your hand at a record fair, seen in a shop, had in your shopping cart, but did not buy.)

and

VC: How do you sort your records? How do you store your records?

Now, take 15 minutes and answer our questions and get someone to snap a photo of you and your collection. Thanks.

VC: Your name and the city you live in.

VC: Do you catalog your records online? Where are they? Are you on the VC Message board? What is your username?

VC: How many records do you own?

VC: How do you sort your records? How do you store your records?

VC: Why do you collect vinyl?

VC: What was the first record you remember purchasing with your own money?

VC: What is your most prized record in your collection?

VC: What release would you like to see come out on vinyl that hasn’t yet been released?

VC: What is the most you have spent for a record?

VC: What has been your greatest vinyl score (least amount of money spent for a valued record)?

VC: What record(s) have you regretted not buying? (Not one you should have ordered – but actually had in your hand at a record fair, seen in a shop, had in your shopping cart, but did not buy.)

VC: What out of print record would you kill to own?

VC: What are your thoughts on color variants? Do you collect any artists in particular?

VC: Do you sell or trade records?

VC: Do you have any good record stores in your home town? Which ones do you frequent?

VC: Your last 5 records that you purchased?

195 SH/VC Auctions on Limited Pressing ending on Friday, July 23rd

Yesterday, I spent a good portion of the day listing and relisting records on the LImited Pressing Auctions. I also had an idea and would love to hear your thoughts. I am thinking that moving forward, I will just list auctions once a week and have them all end on the same day. This week, I have 195 auctions ending on Friday, July 23rd, but I am thinking of changing it so that auctions end on Thursdays. Do you have an opinion either way?

I highly recommend taking a look down this list as I dug out some pretty crazy records. I have a Minus the Bear highly refined pirates on purple (out of only 17), I have a set of all 12 Under the Influence 7″s, as well as records by Dillinger Four, Detroit Cobras, Fall of Troy, Cursive, Damien Jurado. Good Life, Flogging Molly, Descendents, Good Riddance, Frank Turner, Austin Lucas, The Evens, Tim Barry, Fugazi, Look Mexico, Genghis Tron, Look Mexico, and lots lots more.

And I can’t say this enough: Limited Pressing is one of the greatest sites for vinyl collectors. I highly encourage everyone to start a free account regardless of whether or not you want to sell records. They have great tools for following news, listing record collections, selling records, trading records, and more.

There are 195 active Auctions on Limited Pressing from Suburbanhome (Click the below link to see the records being aucioned):

Photo: Fallen from the Sky / Wonder Years UTI 7" on the presses

Jay at United sent me a link to United’s facebook profile where they are showing off a photo of the Fallen from the Sky / Wonder Years Under the Influence 7″ which is on the presses right now. If all goes as planned, copies could be shipping as soon as Friday or Monday if you pre-ordered through Interpunk or if you subscribed to Under the Influence volumes 5 through 14. Thanks to everyone’s patience.

And if you haven’t pre-ordered, this record will be out of print within a few weeks as the distributor pre-orders plus mailorder pre-orders and subscriptions equal almost the number of copies being pressed.

UTI #14 is being mastered right now and artwork is being put together.

If want a set of Under the Influence 7″s volumes 1 through 12, I have an auction posted at Limited Pressing starting at 99 cents.

He even put together a bio about himself which you can read below. Thanks Michael for taking the time to answer our questions.

Vinyl Collector of the Day, Sandy Smith

Sandy Smith is our Vinyl Collector of the day, our first from Scotland. Sandy has one of the bigger collections I’ve seen with over 7,000 records. It helps that Sandy has been collecting for over 30 years. Imagine what your collection will look like 20 or 30 years from now if you continue to collect. While this feature is one of the longer reads we’ve had, I really encourage you to read all the way through. Sandy has some really interesting perspective on collecting as vinyl collecting has changed so much throughout the years. Take for example something like trading records and imagine how differently that act would be without the internet. I guess I could just say imagine any aspect of life pre-internet, but with trading Sandy mentions getting the newest issue of Maximum Rock n Roll and looking through the classifieds. If you saw someone who mike make a good trading candidate, you would write them a letter and send your trade list. Even though I did plenty of things without the internet, I could not imagine how long this process would take. Sandy answered our questions on first record purchased, out of print records worth killing for, records that should be pressed, thoughts on colored vinyl, and more. Thanks Sandy for taking the time to answer our questions.

You, too, can answer our questions and submit your Vinyl Collector of the Day feature. What are you waiting for? You can find the questions here.

Or you can order the album digitally through our bandcamp store either as 320 kbps mp3s or on Flac (for only $5.99). Expect more releases on bandcamp soon. The CD will ship in about 3 weeks.

If you missed out on the earlier posts, I highly recommend you check out the following to sample “The Sounds of Dying”:

After having been a big fan of this band for years, I was amazed to find out that they had finished up an album that was never released, and I was blown away to have had the opportunity to release this album. I really hope you give it a listen. It might be the heaviest Americana record I have ever heard. Those of you waiting for it to come out on vinyl, we will have it out on vinyl before Suburban Home’s 15th Anniversary.

I’ll be the first to admit that our small label doesn’t have the reach the bigger guys have to get the word out and about. If you know someone who might dig this, please tell them to check it out. Please share our mixtape and streams on Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, your blog, or wherever you can share such things. I really appreciate it.

PO: Lucero – Rebels, Rogues & Sworn Brothers 180g LP + MP3

Lucero – Rebels, Rogues & Sworn Brothers 180g LP + MP3 *PRE-ORDER*

The good folks at Sabot have posted the pre-order for Lucero’s “Rebels, Rogues & Sworn Brothers”. The LP is available in 3 colors all on 180 gram vinyl (black, red, and white). I picked up the red. From what our message board is saying the red and the white are limited, the black will be available. You should pick this up. I expect the red and white to sell out pretty quickly. While I finally came around and am a fan of this album, I really can’t wait til they put “That Much Further West”, “S/t”, and “Tennessee” on vinyl.

While $10 plus shipping is a really great price for 180 gram vinyl, I am a little concerned about the album’s running time. At 48 minutes, it seems like a lot to put on a single LP. I’m still very excited to have this record. According to the pre-order, LPs will ship around the end of July.
