Vinyl Collector of the Day, Craig Wainwright

Craig Wainwright is our vinyl collector of the day. He might be our first from Australia. It was brought up recently from another Australian record collector that it is a lot harder to amass a larger record collection if you live in Australia as the shipping costs really add up. Imagine every time you go to order a single LP and having to pay at least $11.00 for shipping, sometimes that shipping costs more than the record itself. While the same could be said about German or British collectors, at least in those countries there are likely to be records pressed and sold in their home countries. It doesn’t seem like there are many vinyl labels in Australia. Sorry about the rant, but I figured it would be a good time to discuss these ideas since Craig is Australian. Craig took the time to answer our questions about why he collects vinyl (best answer ever), his thoughts on colored (coloured) vinyl, his most prized possessions, records he would love to see pressed, and more. Thanks Craig for taking the time to answer our questions.

You, too, can answer our questions and submit your Vinyl Collector of the Day feature. What are you waiting for? You can find the questions here.

I Listen to Independent Music and Drink Craft Beer T-shirts back in stock

I Listen to Independent Music and Drink Craft Beer T-shirt

A little bit ago, we had some crazy deals with our pint glasses and Independent Music/Craft Beer shirts and we sold out of nearly all of our T-shirts. I just picked up a box of new shirts and wanted to let everyone know that they are for sale in our new, still in progress online store. If you haven’t picked up one of these shirts and find yourself a fan of both Independent Music and Craft Beer, what in the world are you waiting for? There are countless beer fests coming up, tons of shows to wear this at, and why not wear this at the next BBQ? We have sizes ranging from Youth Large to XXXL.

You will notice that if you live in the states that the shipping prices on these shirts are a bit more, we got busted a few too many times trying to ship shirts via media mail, we are gonna just sent shirts via priority or first class depending on the weight of the shirt.

Remember, our I Can Lick Any Sonofoabitch In the House pre-order goes up tomorrow. This shirt and a copy of “The Sounds of Dying” and coozie would make for one hell of an order.

Jon Snodgrass, Chris Wollard to take over Florida this weekend

While I’m not quite sure what is happening in the above photo, I will say that if you live in Florida, you better be planning on seeing Jon Snodgrass and Chris Wollard & the Ship Thieves this weekend. Listed as a Party – Reunion on facebook, I can assure you that these shows will be incredible. Anyone going please ask Chris that Colorado wants a Snodgrass/Wollard weekend sometime in the near future.

Stream/Share I Can LIck Any Sonofabitch In the House “The Sounds of Dying”

I can’t wait for everyone to give Suburban Home’s newest release, I Can LIck Any Sonofabitch In the House “The Sounds of Dying” a listen with our full album streaming player and/or our listening station. Regardless of any pre-conceived notions, I hope you will just give the album a listen. To me, SOB are the Murder City Devils or Motorhead of Americana. I actually can’t think of a more heavy, more rocking Alt-Country act out there. I love this album and have been a long-time fan of the band. I still can’t believe that I get to release an album by I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch in the House. Please give it a listen and if you like what you hear, please share the streaming player and/or link to our listening station.

Suburban Home Records Listening Station

Tomorrow, Thursday, July 14th, we will be posting a pre-order of the album digitally and on CD with the vinyl pre-order to be announced soon.

Thanks for checking out this release.

Vinyl Collector of the Day, Brian Conner

Brian Conner is our Vinyl Collector of the Day. He took the time to answer our questions on why he collects vinyl, his first record purchases, record he would like to see pressed, the most he has spent on a record, thoughts on colored vinyl, and more. Thanks Brian for taking the time to answer our questions.

And Brian, if you are ever looking to get rid of any of those old Country records you recently inherited, let me know.

You, too, can answer our questions and submit your Vinyl Collector of the Day feature. What are you waiting for? You can find the questions here.

Download Suburban Home Records Mix Tape Volume 5, Someone's Gonna Die

Suburban Home Records Mix Tape Volume 5 “Someone’s Gonna Die” [FREE DOWNLOAD, YOUSENDIT]

Suburban Home Records Mix Tape Volume 5, “Someone’s Gonna Die” marks a new approach to our Mix Tape series. Partly because it costs less money and partly because we found so many songs we had to put on this mix (putting the running time at over 100 minutes), Mix Tape Volume 5 is available as a free download and not a physical compact disc. While we will miss the physical, tangible qualities of the past volumes, I won’t personally miss having to burn thousands of CDrs and hand-packing every one of them. Let me know your thoughts on this approach.

“Someone’s Gonna Die” was inspired by I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In the House’s new album, “The Sounds of Dying”. Our own Andy Thomas helped me put together the track listing for this mix. The first two songs are from the new album which will be up for pre-order on Thursday, July 15th. The 2nd of Sonofabitch’s songs is a cover of Two Cow Garage’s “Postcard and Apologies” and their version is absolutely fantastic. We figured it only fitting to put Two Cow’s version on right after and while keeping with this mindset, we put a Townes Van Zandt cover by Michael Dean Damron (of ICLASOBITH) followed by the original song. The rest of the mix finds a number of Suburban Home tracks from the likes of Austin Lucas (new demo), Tim Barry, The Takers, Armchair Martian, Jr Juggernaut, Jon Snodgrass, Drag the River, and Look Mexico alongside some of our favorite tracks by new and old bands. We took submissions for this mix by bands who thought their music would work on this volume of our Mix Tape and while we had only planned on putting 1 or 2 songs from these submissions, we put like 6 or 7 songs. We apologize to those of you who submitted tracks that were not selected, but we hope you understand that it was impossible to put all the submissions on. Additionally, I picked a few of my favorite newer bands like The Evening Rig, Arliss Nancy, and John Moreland and the Black Gold Band. We put a number of oldies but goodies from the likes of Lucky Old Sun (Ben Nichols old band), Slobberbone, the Replacements, and more. I think that this could be my favorite Mix Tape yet. I haven’t stopped listening to it since we finished it.

Please download this mix. If you run a blog, please post it on there. If you are in a band on this Mix, please post the mix for download on your Facebook/Twitter/Myspace pages. After downloading the zipped folder, send it out to everyone you know. If our yousendit link expires, just email me or post a comment and I will replace the link with a new one. We really hope you enjoy this mix and if you find some new bands that have caught your ear, please consider buying a record from them or their label and make sure you mark their tour dates on your calendar.

If you could take anything home from our previous mix tapes, it would be great if you downloaded the mix and shared it with at least 4 other friends. I would love to see this mix reach people all over the world. As I always say, music is meant to be shared.

Download hi-resolution cover art and back art if you want to print your own covers in the event you want to burn this onto CDs (it would have to be 2 Audio CDs or 1 Mp3 CD since there is over 100 minutes of audio). Artwork done incredibly by Brandon Proff.

Thanks for checking out our latest mix. Next up will be Mix Tapes inspired by upcoming albums by Two Cow Garage and Josh Small.

Vinyl Collector of the Day, Tim Bornemann

Tim Bronemann is today’s Vinyl Collector of the Day. Tim calls New Jersey home and if I am not mistaken used to run PopKid Records. The part I am not sure about is if the label is still going (Tim?). While it has been many, many years ago, I met Alan from PopKid who was touring with this really great band called Jill (from San Angelo, TX). It was probably in 1996 or 1997 that we met and I think that PopKid put out something for Jill. Enough of my rambling about Alan, let’s get back to Tim. Tim as you will read is an avid collector, he is very active on our message board and as you will read, Flicker and Twitter. Tim answered our questions about why he collects vinyl, records he would love to own, his most prized possession, the most he ever spent on a record, and more. Thanks Tim for taking the time to answer our questions and for sending such an incredible photo (I too am a big Weird Al fan and had the opportunity of seeing him play after Great American Beer Fest one year, that was epic).

You, too, can answer our questions and submit your Vinyl Collector of the Day feature. What are you waiting for? You can find the questions here.

Advertise on the Vinyl Collective Message Board (new, lower pricing)

Vinyl Collective Message Board Banner Ad

After giving it some thought and after having a number of people inquire about advertising on our message board, I have decided on new, lower pricing in hopes to get a constant influx of new banner ads. To make it as simple as possible, we offer a very simple pricing structure. Send us a 468 x 60 banner ad along with a url where you want it linked and we will run it in our rotation for $25.00. We will set the ad to run for one month and once that date expires, the ad will no longer run. The ad will run along all the different sections of our message board. Emails can be sent to info at suburban home records dot com.

We can provide stats on how many times the ad was viewed and clicked through to see if the ad was worthwhile. Feel free to direct any questions at me. thanks.
