131 SH/VC Records for Auction END TODAY! at Limited Pressing (starting at 99cents)

131 SH/VC Records for Auction at Limited Pressing (starting at 99cents)

My weekly auctions end throughout the day today. Take a look, you might find something you didn’t know I would be listing. And you will definitely find some killer deals.

This last week, I dug out some records that have yet to be listed on our weekly auctions. There are some really great records like the Metallica quadruple LP boxset for And Justice for All, found a copy of the Pains at Being Pure at Heart LP on white vinyl, posted the latest Mars Volta dbl LP (as well as another Frances the Mute triple LP), as well as records by Off With Their Heads, Paramore, Dr Dre, Q and Not U, Pixies, Hot Water Music, Hot Snakes, Pelican, Pearl Jam, In the Red, and lots more in addition to the records we have been posting every week.

I can’t say this enough. Take a look at the list 1. because there are over a hundred great records, and 2. lots of the records end at really low prices (some even at the starting price of 99 cents). You can get some great records at great prices and we all know how nice that is with how terrible the economy is.

Vinyl Collector of the Day, Stephen Wisniewski

Today, we bring you our Vinyl Collector of the Day, Stephen Wisniewski. Stephen calls Flint, Michigan, home and happens to play in the very, very good Americana act, Empty Orchestra. I’ve actually had the opportunity of hanging out with Stephen when his band was on tour and they visited the Suburban Home office. Great group of folks. Stephen was kind enough to answer our questions about why he collects vinyl, his first vinyl purchase, records he would love to own, records he would love to see pressed, thoughts on colored variants, most he ever spent on vinyl, recent purchases and more. I like his answer about geeking out about vinyl with the people who typically hangout in his living room thus not needing to spend time on the message board. Thanks Stephen for taking the time to answer our questions.

You, too, can answer our questions and submit your Vinyl Collector of the Day feature. What are you waiting for? You can find the questions here.

Art Show at Suburban Home Records 15th Anniversary (Fast Geek Press,Yellow Rake,Lubricated Magazine)

In addition to shows, hangover brunch, beer tour, barbecue, and washer’s tournament, our good friends Charly and Vincent have helped organize what should be an incredible art show for Suburban Home Records’ 15th Anniversary celebrations. I could not be more excited about the people involved and hope everyone ventures downstairs to see all of the contributing artists’ work:

Artists Charly “the city mouse” Fasano and Vincent Cheap have united once again under the moniker Dumb Guy’s Brother to produce an art series in the Phoenix Gallery at Three Kings Tavern. Dumb Guy’s Brother was created in Fort Collins, Colorado in 1996 as a collected effort to bring a rock and roll starved farm town punk and indie concerts. Now, they are determined to present the city of Denver with a series of events throughout 2010 and 2011 that will feature an eclectic range of artists, comedians, writers, musicians and film-makers.

As part of the Suburban Home Records 15th Anniversary Weekend, Yellow Rake Zine, Lubricated Magazine and Fast Geek Press will present an art show that will be held in the Phoenix Gallery in the basement of Three Kings Tavern on Friday, September 10 and Saturday, September 11. The art show will showcase painters, poets, fiction writers, movie-makers and photographers from Colorado, Florida and California that have supported Suburban Home Records over the years.

On Friday, September 10 the art show will present a collection of short films by John Botts, Charly Fasano and Vincent Fasano (silent short accompanied live by his music project Booger Sugar). The movies begin at 7 pm.

On Saturday, September 11 the art show will present the Yellow Rake Zine new issue release party which will include a reading featuring poet, Charly “the city mouse” Fasano, and fiction writers, Brian Polk of Yellow Rake Zine, Josiah Hesse and Zach Boddicker of Drag the River and 4H Royalty. The reading will begin at 7 pm.

The Phoenix Gallery will be open for the duration of the weekend between 6 pm and 12:00 am.

Listen to “Falling Apart” by THE GAMITS!

Stop what you are doing and go visit Paper and Plastick so you can hear the first song posted from the Gamits’ upcoming album, “Parts”. I believe that Paper and Plastick are accepting pre-orders now for the CD version of the new album, but in early September (date to be announced), we (Suburban Home/VC) along with Paper and Plastick will be posting pre-orders for the Gamits’ new album on vinyl, CD, and digitally. Here is a breakdown of the first pressing for Parts:

“plaid mix” – blue, white, red and black mixed x 200 (I think this will be the SH/VC/Gamits exclusive color)
“concrete” – gray and black shimmer x 400
“parts” – blue and white swirl x 200
“logo” – red and black swirl x 200

So go listen to the song, let us know what you think, and be very excited for the Gamits’ upcoming album. I can’t stop listening to it and just can’t wait for everyone to give it a listen.

The Gamits CD release show is on Saturday, September 4th, at the Gothic Theater w/ Crestfallen.

Vinyl Collector of the Day, Garry Lee

Today, we bring you our Vinyl Collector of the Day, Garry Lee. Garry calls Scotland home and considers Sleep is for the Week Frank Turner’s best album. Garry was kind enough to answer our questions about why he collects vinyl, his most prized records, records he would love to own, his thoughts on colored vinyl, his recent record purchases, and more.

You, too, can answer our questions and submit your Vinyl Collector of the Day feature. What are you waiting for? You can find the questions here.

Final Update on Minus the Bear “Planet of Ice” Repress Pre-order

Minus the Bear “Planet of Ice” double LP (available on Clear Granite and Clear w/ Purple Splash
Minus the Bear “Planet of Ice” double LP BOTH COLORS

On Tuesday, August 3rd, I received an email saying that my July 30th ship date had been pushed back. The ship date was updated to August 6th, but that date, came and went. Apparently, a stamper had broken, pushing things further back. Yesterday, I received an email that the records would ship on the 16th, and I was hopeful that this would in fact happen. Today, I received an email with tracking information. I tracked the packages on their way to me and UPS said that I would have records by Thursday, August 19th. Depending on what time those records show up, I plan to begin shipping records that day. I hope to have a bulk of the orders sent out by Friday, August 20th, but any records not shipped by the 20th will be packed over the weekend and shipped out on Monday, August 23rd. I am sorry for the delays, but the records have finally shipped and will be shipped out of Denver over the next week. I will post photos on Thursday.

If you haven’t pre-ordered this final pressing of “Planet of Ice”, I recommend picking it up sooner than later. While I still have some, shipments to distributors, to the band, to Suicide Squeeze, and the pre-orders are making the pressing move fast. I expect this pressing to be history very soon. Remember, your orders will enter you for a chance to win a test pressing.

Thanks for everyone’s patience.

PO: Bars of Gold "Of Gold" LP (singer of Bear Vs Shark) / Stream on Punknews

Bars of Gold “Of Gold” LP

While I was later than most when it came to Bear Vs Shark, I think “Terrorhawk” is one of those albums that never got the attention it deserved. I guess it didn’t help things that the band broke up while supporting that album. While, I am bummed I never got to see Bear Vs Shark play, I am glad to see that the vocalist of BvsS is continuing to rock with his latest endeavor, Bars of Gold. Friction Records has a pre-order up right now for Bars of Gold’s debut LP which they are pressing on translucent green and translucent orange vinyl. They typically press equal numbers of each color.

You can stream the album on Punknews. While I have only listened to the album once, I think the record has a lot of promise. The band is a lot different than Bear Vs Shark in their arrangements, but the vocals are reminiscent of BvsS. I highly recommend checking out the stream.

Friction says the album will be done by August 24th and they have an album release show on September 11th at Founders (a fucking killer brewery). Wish I could be there. Bars of Gold, make it out to Denver.

15 Great Labels That Are No Longer With Us, Who Would You Pick?

Last year, the Onion’s AV Club did a feature on Suburban Home where they asked me to think about Suburban Home’s 14 biggest mistakes. It was a lot of fun coming up with those mistakes, but this year, The AV Clubs’ Matt Shild outdid himself. He asked me to discuss 15 great labels who are no longer with us that made an impression on Suburban Home. I will wait to share with you the 15 labels that I chose, but I wanted to invite you to discuss the great labels who are no longer with us. I actually challenge you to come up with your own list of 15 labels. I’m just afraid some of you might come up with some labels I had forgotten to include. Good luck!

The Ruckus interviews Austin Lucas

The Ruckus interviews Austin Lucas

The Ruckus just posted a pretty detailed interview with Austin Lucas. Denver Ruckus correspondent, Tiffiny Kallina did the interview and took a number of photos. The interview finds Austin discussing his family, his upcoming wedding, recording a new album, touring Europe, his biggest inspirations, favorite movie and more.

Visit the link above to read the interview. Thanks Ruckus!

Remember, Austin Lucas is playing Suburban Home Records’ 15th Anniversary party. Listen to his latest album, “Collection” or “Somebody Loves You” in our listening station.

Lizzie Huffman confirmed for Suburban Home 15th Anniversary

Today, I am very proud to announce that Lizzie Huffman is joining our 15th Anniversary line up. This will be Lizzie’s first time to Denver so please help us give her a warm welcome during the celebrations. At the bottom of this post, I have put a streaming player so you can listen to the 10″ we released for Lizzie Huffman. I am really excited, this will actually be my first time seeing her play.

Tickets are on sale now at 3 Kings Tavern’s website.

So here is what there is to know about Suburban Home’s 15th Anniversary:

Friday, September 10th and Saturday, September 11th at 3 Kings Tavern (in no particular order or night)
DRAG THE RIVER (full band)
TIM BARRY
TWO COW GARAGE
THE GAMITS
I CAN LICK ANY SONOFABITCH IN THE HOUSE
JON SNODGRASS
AUSTIN LUCAS
MICAH SCHNABEL
ROB COE (of the Enablers)
JOSH SMALL
LIZZIE HUFFMAN

There will be a number of artists showing off their goods down in the basement of 3 Kings over the entire weekend. I will be posting an announcement of all the artists involved tomorrow.

Saturday, September 11th during the day, we are organizing a Hangover Brunch at the Lobby and then a brewery tour that will more than likely include Great Divide, Wynkoop, Oskar Blues, Avery, and maybe Upslope. Details to be announced soon.

Sunday, September 12th BBQ/Washers Tournament/Acoustic Sets at The Park – we’ll cook food, drink beer, play washers (and stump), and we’ll have some of the Suburban Home family doing an old-fashioned hootenanny. More than likely we will do things at Berkeley Park, but we are working out the details.

If you are from out of town, make sure you book your tickets soon. I just bought tickets from Seattle to Denver and was surprised at how nice the prices were. I put together a discounted rate at the same hotel we had lost year (Towne Place Suites). Book TownPlace Suites Denver for Suburban Home Records’ 15th Anniversary [special rate]

We promise an incredible time and hope you can all make it out to what should be a very special celebration.
