Eat and Greet at Illegal Pete's with THE RIOT BEFORE

I just booked Illegal Pete’s first Eat and Greet and I’m so excited it is with The Riot Before, a band I love so much. Most of you are well familiar with the Riot Before and their 2 incredible albums, “Rebellion” (on Paper and Plastick) and “Fists Buried in Pockets” (On Say 10). If you are anywhere near Denver, I trust you will come down and Eat, Hang out, and drink some beer with The Riot Before. Not only will the guys be hanging out at Illegal Pete’s after a long day of driving (from Salt Lake City), they will be performing an acoustic set at Pete’s.

Here is the info:
What: Eat and Greet at Pete’s w/ THE RIOT BEFORE (plus acoustic performance)
When: Saturday, October 2nd, starting around 6pm (depends on how long it takes them to get to town)
Where: Illegal Pete’s downtown denver location, 1530 16th St #101
Who: The Riot Before, listen to some songs on their myspace page

I hope everyone can make it. Please come down, get some food, grab a beer, and enjoy one of my new favorite bands.

The Riot Before’s denver date just got moved to the Rockaway Tavern as they have been added to Tin Horn Prayer’s show there. This will be a show not to miss.

Limited Pressing is offering Bands Their Free For Life Promotion

While I am a bit biased (Limited Pressing not only powers my online store, they have one hell of an auction site), I wanted to share the recent news that Limited Pressing will now offer bands stores FREE For LIFE. You can read more about their announcement below, but if your band doesn’t have a store, you need to jump on this opportunity. If you have a store and are unhappy with it, you should consider what LP has to offer. Not only is Limited Pressing a great tool for selling your records, they are easy to reach if a problem or question pops up. They have my highest recommendation.

Limited Pressing announcement:
If you didn’t already know, Bandcamp recently started charging for their service. Originally when we learned about this we thought, “streaming and downloading tons of music can cost a fortune at the level they’re doing it, so you can’t blame them.” But then we saw the amount they were charging: 15% for digital sales and 10% (for now) for physical. Well we were pretty disappointed, especially with the percentage they were taking from physical sales. They have nothing to do with physical sales, and it’s mind boggling how they justify this.

Bandcamp was a great service that allowed small bands and labels to distribute their music cheaply. Now they’re a great service looking to make some serious coin. Well, here at Limited Pressing, we’re not concerned about serious coin. With this in mind, we’ve done three things:

First, we launched our digital download promotion page that shows exactly what we’re capable of and how cost effective we’ve made it ($10 for 400 downloads, $20 for 1000 downloads). Check out http://limitedpressing.com/digital for more information about our digital download capabilities.

Next, we decided to run a promotion to help out all of the bands that Bandcamp stuck it to with this 10% (soon to be 15%) transaction fee on physical sales. For the next two weeks, if you sign up for a band store it’s free for life. Not six months. Not a year. Free for life. As long as you want the store open, it’s yours.

Lastly, we decided to make sure our current band stores were taken care of. So over the next few days we’ll be making your store free for life as well. Any automatic payments received between now and then will be refunded.

If you want a band store free for life, go to our stores page and sign up for one:
http://limitedpressing.com/stores

We hope you will do the music world a favor and send this email to everyone you know. And when you do, let them know that the only place left with the little guy in mind is Limited Pressing!

Thanks to everyone that makes Limited Pressing possible.

Today, I bring you our Vinyl Collector of the Day, Johnny “Problem” Kuntzmann. Johnny recently relocated to Seattle from Wilmington, Delaware. Thanks Johnny for taking the time to answer our questions.

You, too, can answer our questions and submit your Vinyl Collector of the Day feature. What are you waiting for? You can find the questions here.

Suburban Home Needs Your With Publicity Help for Two Cow Garage's "Sweet Saint Me"

TWO COW GARAGE FANS, IF YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO WRITES FOR A BLOG, NEWSPAPER, OR ZINE OR HANDLES RADIO, PLEASE HELP US GET TWO COW GARAGE’S UPCOMING ALBUM, “SWEET SAINT ME” ON THEIR RADAR

I am handling the press and publicity for Suburban Home Record’s upcoming release of Two Cow Garage’s “Sweet Saint Me”. While I’d like to think I know what I am doing, I haven’t really assumed the role of publicity in a very long time. I figured I would hit up my friends and say, “hey, this is a phenomenal album by a kick ass rock band from Columbus, Ohio; this is their 5th album and probably my favorite of everything they have ever done. The guys always tour, they bust their asses, and I am really hoping that some folks give a damn and help get the word out about their new album, their tour, and their band”. If heart and hard work were currency, these guys would be billionaires. I’d wish that instead of emailing people about this band, we could all have a pint and I could just tell you how much this band means to me, how I think that they are capable of taking over the world, and how you better go see them when they hit your neck of the woods because you won’t see a better live band all year long.

This is how you can help me and Two Cow Garage. If you know someone at a blog or a magazine or a radio station, please

  • A. tell them about Two Cow Garage and how they should write a review, feature, or play their songs
  • B. put them in touch with me. Have them email me.

When I started Suburban Home, I dreamed of having a band this amazing, and while I have nowhere near the marketing dollars of a bigger label, I just hope that these songs will cut through the sea of shit that float by every minute of the day.

I know that there are a lot of you who care about this band and really hope to see them find new fans around the globe. If you know of anyone who could help write something or if you write for a blog, zine, or newspaper, please consider giving us a helping hand.

Video: Look Mexico performs on Austin Live / Performing tonight in Austin (Run-Tex)

Look Mexico performs on Austin Live

Yesterday, Look Mexico performed live on Austin Live to promote their show tonight which finds them along with 143 other artists playing shows to benefit HAAM (HEALTH ALLIANCE FOR AUSTIN MUSICIANS) which helps provide low cost health insurance for professional musicians that live in Austin, Texas. If you live in Austin, make sure you go and see Look Mexico and the other artists performing for HAAM.

The performance is great and the introduction from the newscaster while awkward is great, too. He seems to be a little uncertain about a performance at Run-Tex, but regardless, you should watch the video (even if it is on the tiniest video player I have ever seen). If anyone finds embeddable code, please post a comment. There has to be better viewable video out there.

Another reason why Austin, Texas, rules. If anyone has extra time, I don’t see a better way to utilize that time than to start a similar chapter in their town to help musicians receive affordable health insurance.

If you missed out on the earlier posts, I highly recommend you check out the following to sample “The Sounds of Dying”:

After having been a big fan of this band for years, I was amazed to find out that they had finished up an album that was never released, and I was blown away to have had the opportunity to release this album. I really hope you give it a listen. It might be the heaviest Americana record I have ever heard. And if you have never seen them live, they will blow you away. They blew me away during Suburban Home’s 15th Anniversary weekend.

I’ll be the first to admit that our small label doesn’t have the reach the bigger guys have to get the word out and about. If you know someone who might dig this, please tell them to check it out. Please share our mixtape and streams on Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, your blog, or wherever you can share such things. I really appreciate it.

Illegal Pete's announces their Starving Artists' Program

Both myself and Andy Thomas (formerly of Suburban Home) are involved in a really great project with our friends at Illegal Pete’s. If you know of a band coming through Denver, put them in touch with us and we will make sure they get fed.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Illegal Pete’s launches “Starving Artists Program”

Denver, CO – Illegal Pete’s restaurants are trying to make the road a little more enjoyable for touring bands with the launch of it’s “Starving Artists” program. The program offers free food to bands on tour in hopes that the bands tell their friend’s and fans worldwide about their experiences at Illegal Pete’s.

The restaurant, which has four locations in the Denver Metro Area and two in Boulder, launched the program as a way to get like minded people into their restaurants and create a community atmosphere for musicians and fans alike.

Spearheading the program is Virgil Dickerson, CEO of Suburban Home Records, and Andy Thomas, a local musician and music journalist.

“Both Virgil and I have toured with bands over the years and we realize how tying it can be sometimes,” Thomas said of the program. “We just want to help out those bands on tour by giving them a good meal, a place to hang out and, if they feel like it, a place to party afterwards.”

People interested in Illegel Pete’s Starving Arists Program are being urged to contact either Virgil or Andy by email at music@illegalpetes.com. If you know of a band coming through Denver, make sure they get in touch.

Vinyl Collector of the Day, Derek Fricano

Today, I bring you our Vinyl Collector of the Day, Derek Fricano. Derek resides in East Lansing, Michigan. He was kind enough to answer my questions about why he collects vinyl, his first vinyl purchase, his thoughts on colored vinyl, his recent purchases, his thoughts on trading, and more. He answered the question about trading with a really smart answer for those who are married. He said that, “A healthy, eBay-funded PayPal account is the record-collector’s secret to a happy marriage.” Well put my friend. Thanks Derek for answering my questions.

You, too, can answer our questions and submit your Vinyl Collector of the Day feature. What are you waiting for? You can find the questions here.

Joey Cape & Jon Snodgrass "Liverbirds" CD (only have 4 copies)

Joey Cape & Jon Snodgrass “Liverbirds” CD

Joey Cape self-released this split album with his good buddy Jon Snodgrass. The album, “Liverbirds” features 10 songs which you are sure to hear if you ever see Joey and Jon perform together. While most of the songs have been featured on other albums, these versions have both Jon and Joey singing together on them and this collection also features the soon to be hit, “Spiderman, Wolfman” which I really hope you have seen Jon perform before.

I only got 4 of these from Snodgrass over the Anniversary weekend. I will try to get more, but do know that I plan to release this on vinyl sooner than later.

Photo: Justin Townes Earle "Harlem River Blues" plus bandana and screen print

I got the records and as you will see from the photo, I was given bandanas and screen prints. I got enough to send out one with each order. I will not be taking suggestions, you will either get a bandana or a hand-numbered screen print.

I also got True Blood current season episodes 3 through 11. I am so damned excited to be watching while packing records. Records will ship today.
