Justin Townes Earle "Harlem River Blues" LP shipping today

Justin Townes Earle “Harlem River Blues” LP

Justin Townes Earle “Midnight at the Movies” LP
Justin Townes Earle “The Good Life” LP

Due to Bloodshot sending my order to an old address, the records did not arrive on Friday. The records will be arriving any minute and I just wanted to give a head’s up that I have already printed shipping labels and plan to send all these records today. I am hoping to get episodes 3 through 7 of this season’s True Blood from Andy and hope to be watching them while I pack the orders. If you haven’t placed your order for this or any of JTE’s older albums, you have another chance to place your order. Once my allotment are sold out, I don’t plan to carry the albums any longer.

Have you listened to “Harlem River Blues” yet? I will admit that upon first few listens, I wasn’t completely feeling the album, but over the weekend some late night beer drinking with friends and listening to the album, I am finally on board with the new album and think that it will be one of my favorites of 2010. What are your thoughts?

The winner for the “Good Life” test pressing will be announced later this week. Good luck.

DIY Tip: Making your own Corrugated Cardboard 12" Pads

While Corrugated Cardboard 12″ Pads are fairly inexpensive (around 27 cents each plus shipping via IndyBoxes), it doesn’t take much time to make your own. I’ve made them off and on throughout the past handful of years, but recently as my number of boxes accumulated, I have made more efforts to make 12″ Pads.

I invite everyone to comment on how they make their own, but the way that I make them, I only need the following items (available at all Hardware stores):

  • A T-Square (I recommend one that is longer than 12 inches on one side
  • A Sharp blade of some sort
  • A Table you don’t care what the table’s surface looks like

The indyboxes’ pads measure 12 1/4 ” by 12 1/4 ” so I just take a look at the line marking 12.25 inches and cut straight down. I then either make a similar horizontal cut or flip the piece of cardboard horizontally and repeat the cut I had just made. It doesn’t get much easier than this. I recommend doing this outside or in a garage as it tends to get a little messy.

And while a 27 cent savings doesn’t sound like much, if you end up sending out even 100 packages with homemade pads each month (I tend to send more than this each month), in one year’s time, you save over $324.00 as I am not even factoring in the cost to have those pads shipped to you.

Vinyl Collector of the Day, Oscar Lopez

Today, I bring you our Vinyl Collector of the Day, Oscar Lopez. Oscar is currently going to school in Ripperside (Riverside), California. It appears that Oscar is fairly new to the world of collecting vinyl, but where he might be new, he has no lack of enthusiasm. Oscar has been so kind to answer my questions on why he collects vinyl, his first record purchase, records he would kill to own, his local record stores, his thoughts on colored vinyl and more.

Thanks Oscar for taking the time to answer our questions.

You, too, can answer our questions and submit your Vinyl Collector of the Day feature. What are you waiting for? You can find the questions here.

Last Call for Murder By Death / Sam Lowry split 7", MBD DVD

LAST CHANCE TO ORDER THIS FROM VC/SH; MBD JUST SENT ME MY ALLOTMENT, SHOULD BE HERE NEXT WEEK. I ONLY HAVE 15 MORE 7″S AND 3 MORE DVD’S; IF YOU WERE THINKING ABOUT ORDERING, DO SO SOON.

Murder by Death / Sam Lowry split 7″

Murder by Death “Live” DVD (celebrating 10 years as a band)

Murder by Death are about to embark on a tour with Suburban Home artist, Ninja Gun. Before the tour starts though, the band will be releasing the next volume of their split 7″ series, this time with Sam Lowry (who we released a split 7″ w/, with William Elliott Whitmore’s Wayword Sons), and their first ever DVD spanning the first 10 years of their band.

Murder By Death describes the releases this way, “You can now preorder a copy of our first ever DVD! Its our way of celebrating 10 years of MBD. It features a 13 song set filmed from the 2009 Desert tour, plus a bunch of old videos from shows 2003-present. There are old photos, and a couple videos of us drunkenly messing around. Its really fun. There will be 2000 copies available. We are also releasing the next installment of the SEVEN SERIES- this time a split with our long-time Tour Manager/Merch Guy Dixie (who performs under the name Sam Lowry). It’ll be a benefit for our friends’ band O’Death, who have been having severe financial problems due to one of the members bout with bone cancer. Pick one of the 1000 copies up and help us help them out! ”

copies will ship to me on September 8th and I will more than likely get them after the Suburban Home 15th Anniversary weekend. If you’ve picked up the other splits in this series (w/ William Elliott Whitmore, w/ O’Death, w/ Amanda Palmer), you have to get this split. If you haven’t gotten any of these, this will be a good one to start with. This 7″ will sell out.

Two Cow Garage "Sally, I've Been Shot" debuts on Punknews.org Podcast

Punknews.org Podcast for week of September 14th (featuring exclusive debut of Two Cow Garage’s “Sally, I’ve Been Shot” LINK ISN’T YET LIVE,

The good folks of Punknews.org are debuting a brand new track from the upcoming Two Cow Garage album, “Sweet Saint Me”. The song, “Sally, I’ve Been Shot”, starts out the album and could be my favorite song on the record. I say could be, because depending on the listen, I switch back and forth between 3 or 4 others. Please tune in and check out the podcast.

I will warn you that the podcast is well over an hour long (the song comes in around the 38 minute mark right after a dialog about Blake (of Jawbreaker)’s recent letter about 9/11). I’ve enjoyed the podcast quite a bit as they have round table discussions about Screeching Weasel, recent Fat signee Old Man Markley, and they end in a nice discussion about beer (I love Founders by the way). Daytrader/Crime In Stereo, and Dead to Me’s recent lineup change. The contrasting takes on these recent events are very interesting to listen to (at least they were for me). In addition to Two Cow Garage, they play a Jawbreaker cover by Red Collar and The Varsity Weirdos. I really love that Jawbreaker cover.

Thanks Bryne and Punknews for including Two Cow Garage in this week’s episode.

Video: Micah (of Two Cow Garage) explains the meaning/inspiration behind "Lydia"

MICAH EXPLAINS THE MEANING/INSPIRATION BEHIND “LYDIA” [Nine Bullets dot net]

As you should know by now, next month, Two Cow Garage will be releasing their 5th album, “Sweet Saint Me”. The album is fucking amazing; it is going to blow you away. Last week, we released the lead off single from the album, “Lydia” and today, our friends at Nine Bullets posted a video of Micah explaining the story behind the song which also includes an acoustic performance of the rocker. The video can be found on Nine Bullets as well as Youtube.

If you have not purchased the single, you can straight from us by clicking this link.

The video was taken at Suburban Home Records’ 15th Anniversary at 3 Kings Tavern. Can you tell who is on stage while Micah is explaining things? Bonus points if you can tell me what songs that band is playing during the explanation.

Thanks Bryan; it was really great having you in Denver last weekend. If you are not hip to Nine Bullets and you like the kind of music Suburban Home puts out, you really need to be visiting Nine Bullets often.

Pre-order announced: I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In The House "The Sounds of Dying" LP

I received the test pressings for I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In the House’s “The Sounds of Dying” right before the Suburban Home Anniversary weekend. I spent a little time before the weekend with them, but I have been listening to them all week and they sound completely rocking. The big bummer about this is that I brought 5 test pressings for the members of ICLASOBITH to give to them while they were in Denver, but I left them in my car and on that next day, the sun did quite a number to them and those 5 test pressings are now warped beyond recognition. Luckily I have more to send them, but man, what a bummer.

So the test pressings are approved, the jackets are printed, and all they are waiting for are the inserts, and I have set a date for the pre-order for Tuesday, September 21st. I don’t have a set time, but more than likely it will be in the A.M. (MST).

The pressing info is as follows:
150 on Whiskey Coke Colored Vinyl (Transparent Brown)
350 on White vinyl

Future represses will be on black vinyl. The LP will come with a download coupon.

There will be a test pressing contest where one lucky pre-orderer will receive a test pressing of “The Sounds of Dying”. And the test pressing will be in proper shape. I expect the vinyl for this to arrive around the middle of October.

If you have never seen these guys play, oh man, they bring it live. They just played Suburban Home’s 15th anniversary party and they blew people away. If you haven’t listened to their album, you should give it a listen with the following stream or on our bandcamp page.
