Suburban Home 15th Anniversary T-shirt and Free Posters While Supplies Last

Suburban Home Records 15th Anniversary T-shirt

Suburban Home Records 15th Anniversary Poster (FREE w/ order, while supplies last)

Suburban Home Records’ 15th Anniversary celebrations happened last weekend, and while a lot of you were not there in person, I feel that everyone that has ever given a damn was there in spirit. We made up some shirts and posters and wanted to offer them to all of you before they are retired. Our friend, Luke Andrews, came up with the design. Chad Price (of Drag the River) printed the shirts; jakprints printed the posters.

The shirts are on white Gildan shirts for Men/Unisex, and we actually made a run on Girls sizes (can’t recall the brand, but they were well received). We all know you have too many black shirts in your wardrobe; surprise your friends and bring out the colors in your skin and eyes.

Posters are free while supplies last; I do ask that you please order something with your poster in order for it to ship. Even if that something is a poster tube which is now available in our store. If you don’t add a poster tube, the poster will be folded when shipped with your order. Thanks.

Photo: The Gamits "Parts" endcap display at Tower Japan

While this photo may think you have gone back in time when bands like No Use for a Name, Rufio, and The Gamits were actively putting out records and Tower Records still existed, this photo was just from the other day. Punk in ya Face (the Gamits’ Japanese label) sent over a photo of an endcap display at Tower Japan. Tower Japan separated themselves from the U.S. entity and is still going strong.

The Gamits are actually gearing up for what should be an incredible tour of Japan and Russia. They absolutely rocked it at our Anniversary weekend despite Scott Weigel having food poisoning and projectile vomiting on stage!

Have you listened to the album? Stream it here; and make sure you pick up the Plaid colored vinyl from us as we are nearly sold out.

Taking Mix Tape 6 Suggestions for Two Cow Garage inspired Mix Tape

I’ve begun working on Mix Tape #6 which will derive inspiration from Two Cow Garage’s upcoming album, “Sweet Saint Me”. By this point, I hope you have given their lead single, “Lydia” a listen and come TOMORROW, Thursday, Septmber 16th, you will get to hear “Sally, I’ve Been Shot” which will be featured on the latest Punknews.org Podcast. Having listened to that/those track(s), can you suggest a song that would fit nicely on Suburban Home Records 6 Mix Tape? I will put around 5 submissions on Mix Tape #6. You don’t have to be in the band to suggest a track. I’d rather fans submit tracks rather than bands like we did for Mix Tape #5. The track could be a song you are in love with, a band you think would fit nicely, a band that you think deserves a bit of exposure, anything you think would make a good submission.

VERY IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ if you are interested in submitting a track:

  • Please send an email to info at Suburban Home Records (NOT Virgil@) with the Subject TWO COW GARAGE MIX TAPE SUBMISSION
  • Please attach 1 (ONE) track as an mp3 (no WMA, no Wav files, no M4A files).
  • Please include the name of the artist and the title of the song.
  • Please include your name and feel free to offer up a sentence or two about the track you are submitting.
  • Submissions will be accepted starting today and I will stop accepting submissions on Monday, September 20th.

If your suggested track gets picked, I will be sure to include in the liner notes who submitted the track.

Thanks for considering sending over a track. I am really excited to hear all the songs that get suggested.

And if it helps, I am already putting on tracks by I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In the House, The Hold Steady, Titus Andronicus, Yesterday’s Ring, Drag the River, The Gaslight Anthem, and more.

Mike Lema, You are the Winner of both Red City Radio "To The Sons & Daughters of Woody Guthrie" LPs

If you ordered a copy of Red City Radio’s LP, “To The Sons & Daughters of Woody Guthrie” from the VC/SH store, you were entered for a chance to win both variants of this pressing. Today, I picked a winner and that winner is Mike Lema. Congratulations buddy. Your records will be sent out today. Thanks to everyone who has ordered this record. If you haven’t ordered the record yet, I still have a handful of copies remaining.

Onion's AV Club – Suburban Home marks 15 years remembering those that came before

The day the label died: Suburban Home marks 15 years remembering those that came before

While this piece was originally supposed to discuss 15 labels that had an influence on Suburban Home who are no longer around, I’m guessing the editors made decisions to cut out talk of some of the labels I had mentioned. Click the link to see what they included, but know that I had originally included Lookout Records, Mutant Pop, Allied Records, Shredder, Dill Records, Initial Records, Grey Flight, and Rhetoric. Moon Ska barely missed my list and I was reminded later that I should have included Desoto.

Either way, this was a fun exercise in remembering a lot of great labels who are no longer with us.

Who would you have included that I didn’t? Instead of a photo of me, they should have shown a picture of a 40 oz being poured onto the curb.

Interview/Stream: 10 Questions with The Gamits by Me (Virgil Dickerson) [Amp Magazine]

10 Questions with The Gamits by Me (Virgil Dickerson) [Amp Magazine]

Brett (AMP head honcho) asked me if I would be into interviewing the GAMITS. He figured I might come up with some good questions since I have known the guys really well for a really long time. Truth is, the GAMITS are some of my best friends. We have been there for each other through good times and bad. The GAMITS were one of the first bands on Suburban Home (my little label). I went on tour with them, I put out most of their releases, and when Chris Fogal got married, I was one of his groomsmen. I will never forget the times we had together and so when the guys were asked to do a reunion tour and decided to record a new record, it really got me excited. It reminded me of all the great times we had and I guess it also made me a bit nervous because you never know how a new record from a band that hasn’t existed in over 5 years might go. Luckily, the GAMITS not only put any worries I might have to rest, I think they surpassed any expectations I would have had by recording their greatest album in their entire career. The album not only rocks harder, but it has all the hooks of their earlier records, and the lyrics offer much more depth than previous efforts. While I could go on and on about how much I love this band and their new album, why don’t you read this interview with vocalist, Chris Fogal, and bass player/vocalist, Scott Weigel. And while here, make sure you stream the album, it will knock your socks off.

Tour: Two Cow Garage "Sweet Saint Me" tour w/ Dave Hause, ICLASOBITH, Cheap Girls, Olin & The Moon

While, I am still looking for my socks (that were rocked off by Two Cow Garage during Suburban Home’s 15th anniversary), I wanted to announce Two Cow Garage’s first tour in support of their upcoming album, “Sweet Saint Me”. The tour will start with an album release show in their hometown of Columbus, Ohio. The tour will reach most areas of the United States (before anyone grumbles that their neck of the woods isn’t being covered, wait til the final dates are confirmed). Support for most of the shows are still being arranged, but Dave Hause (of Loved Ones) will be doing a good portion of the dates. Cheap Girls, I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In the House, Carpenter, The Evening Rig, Olin & The Moon, are also doing at least one date.

“Sweet Saint Me” will be in stores towards the end of October. A pre-order will be posted towards the end of September. The first single from “Sweet Saint Me”, “Lydia”, is available now and features the exclusive B-side, “Montgomery Park”. “Sweet Saint Me” should start to give Two Cow Garage the recognition they greatly deserve for being one of the underground’s hardest rocking bands. Mark these dates on your calendar and make sure you catch at least one of their shows. Very few bands bring the thunder like Two Cow Garage.

Photo: Two Cow Garage "Lydia" Single Polaroids

Over the Suburban Home Records’ 15th Anniversary Weekend, Two Cow Garage handed me over 20 Polaroids which you see photographed above. While the polaroids are a smaller size than what I thought they would be, all the photos turned out really great. Some of my favorites are of Andy and Shane passed out on their hotel room bed, a photo of Jon Snodgrass, the poster for the Suburban Home 15th Anniversary, a photo of a couple members of I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In the House back stage, and well, they are all pretty rad. I really hope everyone enjoys them. Even though, you received a link to download the single upon purchasing the single, the photo also comes with a code on the back as well is being hand-numbered.

For those of you who noticed that the Lydia single was encoded at 192 Kbps while the b-side was encoded at 320 Kbps, the problem has been fixed. I am very sorry I didn’t catch that initially.

If you missed out on the Polaroids and haven’t purchased the digital single, what are you waiting for? The single is amazing and is only a taste of what you will get with their upcoming album, “Sweet Saint Me”.
