Today, we bring you the pre-order for Look Mexico’s upcoming album and debut for Suburban Home, “To Bed to Battle”. Many of you have witnessed Look Mexico’s journey throughout the past few years and are excited about this new album. For some of you, this might be the first you have ever heard of Look Mexico. Whichever side of the fence you are on, I really hope that you will spend a little time with a band we still can’t believe we are working with. Look Mexico were one of the first bands (along with Fake Problems) to contribute to our Under the Influence 7″ series. Their track, a cover of Looking Glass’ “Brandy, You’re a Fine Girl” was a spot on cover that really showed the band’s musical chops. Shortly after, they released the “Gasp Asp” 7″ for Tine Engine and those tracks just blew me away. I had always been a fan, but those 2 releases gave me a glimpse into what the band might be capable of on their next album. Luckily, we found out that their next recording effort would be their greatest material to date finding the banding growing and maturing to forge their own distinct style. “To Bed to Battle” is a masterpiece and I can’t wait for all to hear the album Look Mexico have been working so hard to put out.

The album will be pressed on LP, CD, available digitally, and available as a deluxe set with LP, CD, Poster, Pint Glass, T-shirt, Coozie, and Button. The vinyl will be pressed in an edition of 1,000 copies (500 on Salmon/Orange vinyl, 500 on black vinyl). After the first pressing sells out, we will press all future pressings on black vinyl.

To Bed To Battle was written and recorded this past summer in Look
Mexico’s former hometown of Tallahassee, FL. With the converted
basement of a local pizza shop dedicated as their studio space, the
band was able to take their time throughout the recording process,
experimenting with and expanding their sound, and adding new
instrumentation such as electric piano, organ, pedal steel, violin, cello,
and horns. The resulting album – which deals with struggle and
pressing on in the face of adversity – is an incredibly catchy, diverse
yet cohesive set of 10 songs. To Bed To Battle ranges musically from
anthemic pop/rock and explosive ballads (“You Stay. I Go. No
Following,” “Until The Lights Burn Out?”), to alternately edgy and
dreamy math-rock (“No Wonder I’m Still Awake,” “Time For You To
Go Do Your Own Thing”), to blistering, barreling modern rock (“I Live
My Life A Quarter Mile At A Time,” “They Offered Me A Deal (I Said
No, Naturally”), to even acoustic, chamber pop-laced Americana
(“Take It Upstairs, Einstein”).

This is Micah Scnhabel’s (of Two Cow Garage)’s debut album, “When the Stage Light Goes Dim”. The album was originally pressed by Micah’s father, John, in a really small pressing (only 500 CDs). The pressing quickly sold out and I asked if Micah and John would be ok with Suburban Home re-releasing the album. Luckily, they said yes. Brandon Proff (of Suburban Home) put together new artwork for the album and we decided to put the album out on vinyl. The album will be pressed on LP, CD, and available as a deluxe set with LP, CD, Poster, Pint Glass, Coozie, and Button. The vinyl will be pressed in an edition of 1,000 copies (500 on Green w/ White vinyl (minty green), 500 on black vinyl). After the first pressing sells out, we will press all future pressings on black vinyl.

If you picked up a copy of our 2nd Suburban Home mix tape, you had the opportunity to hear 2 songs from Micah’s album. The album surpassed every expectation I had for the album and I was expecting great things from the Two Cow Garage front man. I had the opportunity to see Micah perform solo and he absolutely rocks live which isn’t too shocking if you had ever seen Two Cow Garage live. In between recording sessions for a brand new Two Cow Garage album, Micah will be doing dates around the U.S. to promote the album.

YESTERDAY’S RING “Chasers” LP Black Vinyl w/ 19 song download code

Hugo just sent me a photo of him holding onto one of the test pressings for “Chasers”, the new LP by Yesterday’s Ring that is being released by Hugo’s label, LÉCURIE MUSIQUE. You can win this test pressing by pre-ordering the vinyl from Vinyl Collective. When we get the vinyl, we will randomly pick one winner who will win a signed copy of the test pressing.

And early next week, we will be posting a stream of 3 songs from “Chasers” including their cover of Against Me’s “Sink Florida Sink”. I’ve already listened to this recording 3 times since yesterday and it is fucking awesome. Here is the track listing for those of you curious what is on the LP:

1- Y Manque de Volcano Dans L’Rack À Sauces
2- Les Morts-Vivants Se Meurent
3- Une Coupe de Ch’veux Pis Des Souliers
4- A Last Word For A Dead Genius
5- J’Aurais Jamais Pensé Écrire Une Chanson Pour Faire Pleurer Les Mères
6- Roaming On Ste-Catherine Street
7- Another Bad Country Song
8- Sink Florida Sink (Against Me Cover)
9- Roadworn & Weary (Supersuckers Cover)

We are only getting 50 of the green vinyl so act fast.

Our friends at All In Vinyl (Fantastic UK Mailorder) are now carrying Tim’s new album on vinyl. They are the only place in the UK that you can order “28th & Stonewall” on colored vinyl. They don’t have a bunch of copies going to them so order quickly. And if the chance for colored vinyl doesn’t entice you, when you order with All In Vinyl, you will be entered to win a test pressing for “28th & Stonewall”, 1 of only 20 hand-numbered test pressings (and only a handful that will ever be available after Tim and those who helped make 28th & Manchester get their copies). You can pre-order Tim Barry’s new album here . And make sure you bookmark Allinvinyl.com if you are a vinyl collector living in the UK. With the high expense of shipping to the UK from the United States, All In Vinyl can possibly save you a few pounds. Plus, David Tighe, who runs All In Vinyl started the site/store because he has for some time been a big vinyl collector and figured there might be a way to help others in the UK save a little money.

Brandon Harrington – TIM BARRY 28th & Stonewall” LP

Now that we have shipped all of the CDs, LPs, and Deluxe Sets for Tim Barry’s new album, we decided it would be a good time to pick a Test Pressing winner. Congrats Brandon. If you are curious about other test pressing contests or want to see past winners, just visit this link. Whenever you see TP/PO preceding a pre-order that means, we have a test pressing contest where you enter by pre-ordering a copy of the album. Recent test pressing contests include the Brenden Kelly / Joe McMahon Wasted Potential LP and the Matt Pryor Confidence Man LP. Good luck.

BRENDAN KELLY / JOE MCMAHON “Wasted Potential” LP / Coffee Mug

It was recently announced that our friends at Anchorless have partnered with Red Scare to bring the LP/CD/Digital release of the split between Brendan Kelly (of Lawrence Arms) and Joe McMahon (of Smoke or Fire). Anchorless is releasing the LP/Digital formats and Red Scare is releasing the album on CD.

The pressing info is as follows:

160 on Transparent Yellow vinyl
300 on White vinyl
The remainder on Black vinyl

The only place you will be able to get the colored vinyl is through Anchorless’ store. Black vinyl will be available through all the normal outlets. We postied 100 copies with a special edition coffee mug. We are making 150 coffee mugs to go along with this set (100 to go with the vinyl, 50 to be shared between Anchorless, Brendan, and Joe and will probably not be sold). The Coffee Mugs will have artwork from the release on one side and the Anchorless logo on the other side. Why a coffee mug you ask and not a pint glass? The guys figured a coffee mug will help nurse the hangover after a long night of drinking.

The vinyl will come with a digital download coupon, but chances look good that we will be able to send those who pre-order a copy a link to download the digital version before you receive the vinyl. Still working out the kinks with that, but Anchorless has also been so kind as to donate a test pressing for a test pressing contest. The 100 pre-orders will all be entered for a chance to win the test pressing.

We are expecting vinyl around the first to second week of March.

MATT PRYOR “Confidence Man” LP coke bottle green vinyl

In a weird set of circumstances, I have been in direct contact with Matt Pryor, lead vocalist of the Get Up Kids, New Amsterdams, Terrible Twos, and a damn fine solo singer/songwriter. We were put in touch with each other by a friend who had worked with the band prior to signing with Vagrant. Matt and I spoke about a number of things, one of which was the possible release of “Confidence Man” (Matt’s most recent solo album) on vinyl. If you ask me, Matt Pryor is making some of his best music now and “Confidence Man” was one of my most played albums of 2009. If you have been a fan of any of his other works, I think that this album is as good or better than anything he has done with Get Up Kids or New Amsterdams. Originally released by Vagrant records, Matt got the ok to self-release the album on vinyl. He has pressed up the album and will be doing a pressing of 500 copies, all on coke bottle green vinyl. We have 100 copies in the store right now. Test pressings have been approved and we are expecting copies between the 1st and 2nd week of March.

I highly recommend this album and hope it does well for Matt. I know that he is currently sitting on another full length album that he is planning to self-release. I have a copy of it and it is equally amazing.

Matt has been so kind as to offer us a test pressing for a contest. If you pre-order this album, you will be entered to win. Good luck. As a long time fan of Matt and his many projects, I am really honored to be involved with this pre-order.

Listen to and download 2 mp3s from our friends at Can You See the Sunset who reviewed the album and posted a few tracks here.
