A little while back, we had Greg Daniels as one of our Vinyl Collectors of the Day. Greg was in the Denver-based band, Vaux. The feature got a lot of people talking about Vaux and now the guys are thinking about putting out some of their past records out on vinyl. Until then though, we recommend you check out Glass Hits, the new Denver band featuring Greg of Vaux. You can listen/download tracks on their band camp page. The 7″ is limited to 300 copies and is available now.

Suburban Home Records Mix Tape Volume 4, “Consequences Swept Up Like Sand”

READ BELOW AS THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO RECEIVE A BUNDLE OF OUR MIXTAPES FOR FREE!!

We are excited to share with you Volume 4 of the Suburban Home Records’ Mix Tape, “Consequences Swept Up Like Sand”. This mix tape was inspired by Austin Lucas’ new record, “Collection” and starts with “Wild Boar” from his new album. The mix continues with a track from “Somebody Loves You”, then a live recording of Austin Lucas performing with Two Cow Garage as his backing band from Suburban Home’s 14th Anniversary. There is also a live track from our anniversary featuring Mike Hale and Austin Lucas performing “Lives Like Mine” together. While I would prefer to leave the track listing a mystery, I can say that we included a track by Bob Lucas (Austin’s father and bad ass musician) plus tracks by Suburban Home artists Drag the River, Tim Barry, Jon Snodgrass, Ninja Gun, and Josh Small. There is a track by Suburban Home’s own Andy Thomas’ band, Tin Horn Prayer. With the rest of the mix, let me just say that if you are a fan of Austin Lucas and a lot of the releases we put out on Suburban Home, we think you will not only love the mix, but you might even find a few new artists to fall in love with. The track listing was put together by yours truly with the help of Andy Thomas and Brandon Proff. The Austin Lucas interview was put together by Andy Thomas and myself. The art was put together by Brandon Proff.

Just like last time, you can get 5 copies for FREE. You will just need to pay for shipping. Keep 1 copy and give 4 to friends you think may enjoy the mix. We believe that music is meant to be shared. If you hear an artist that you like, please consider finding their releases and see if they are touring through a town near you.

Act fast as there are only a small number of mix tapes being made.

Stephen Egerton’s ambitious new album, “The Seven Degrees Of…” is now out. Have you heard it? Do you have a favorite track? Obviously I am partial to tracks by Chad Price, Jon Snodgrass, Joey Cape, and Milo Aukerman, but some of the most surprising tracks to me were John Moreland and Bill McShane. I have to commend Stephen Egerton on such an outstanding job on this release. I could not imagine how long this album took to put together.

I was surprised to see that this album is available on CD as Paper and Plastick were pretty vocal about not releasing CDs. Will there be more Paper and Plastick titles on CD? I should interview Vinnie as I have been thinking about putting out less CDs with Paper and Plastick as my inspiration.

If you haven’t seen the track listing, it is listed below. Interpunk now has the album available on 3 different colors of vinyl and CD. Get a copy while you can. I expect this to sell out.

1 Flip (Feat. John Speck Of The Fags)
2 Fire’s On (Feat. Jon Snodgrass Of Drag The River)
3 Abundance Of Fluff (Feat. John Moreland Of The Black Gold Band)
4 South For The Winter (Feat. Tim McIlrath Of Rise Against)
5 Funny Face (Feat. Chad Price Of All/Drag The River)
6 Never Again (Feat. Bill McShane Of Ultimate Fakebook)
7 On The Avenue (Feat. Jesse Cole Of In Stereo/Le Fang)
8 Our Last Song (Feat. Dan Andriano Of Alkaline Trio)
9 She’s Got Everything (Feat. Milo Aukerman Of The Descendents)
10 Cut Me Down To Size (Feat. Mike Herrera Of MXPX)
11 Sunny Disposition (Feat. Scott Reynolds of All)
12 When They Roam (Feat. Joey Cape Of Lagwagon/Me First And The Gimme Gimmes)
13 Print On Paper (Feat. Chris DeMakes Of Less Than Jake)
14 Falling Out (Feat. Frank Daly Of Big Drill Car)
15 Silencer (Feat. Mark Vecchiarelli Of Shades Apart)
16 Willie Wicked (Feat. Abe Brenna Of My Name/Wretch Like Me)

Band of Horses have a brand new album out today, their first for a major label and their first not with Subpop. I might also add that this is also their first not so amazing album. I was a pretty big fan after their first album, “Everything All the Time”. I became an even bigger fan with “Cease to Begin”. I was really excited for the release of this new album and only time will tell if the album grows on me, but at this point, I think the album just doesn’t have the edge that their first two albums have. It’s just missing something. What are your thoughts on the new album? I love this band and look forward to seeing them live again, it might take seeing these songs performed live to make the difference.

Here are my Band of Horses’ album rankings:

1. “Cease to Begin”
2. “Everything All The Time”
3. “Infinite Arms”

How about you?

A little while back, Bad Religion announced the release of a free live album to commemorate 30 years as a band. “30 Years Live” can be heard in its entirety on Spinner. And you can sign up for a free copy of the album here. I assume a link will be sent out this week (hopefully tomorrow since that is the release date of the album). The band are currently recording a brand new album due out later this year. If you haven’t signed up for the free album download, do so today.

How does your Bad Religion vinyl collection look? What is your favorite Bad Religion album? I think that “Suffer” will forever be my favorite album, but I love so many albums from their early years (except for Into the Unknown, what the hell was that).

Interpunk currently stocks a lot of the Bad Relgion catalog. Round out your collection by visiting this link.

The Black Keys have a brand new album in stores tomorrow. I am listening to the album for the first time right now and once again, it sounds like a keeper. Their last album “Attack and Release” found them working with Danger Mouse and man, that record was the best 70’s record released in the 2000’s and my favorite of the band’s since “Thickfreakness” which may forever be my favorite album of theirs. I still remember seeing them at South By Southwest and to me, they were the best band that year. I can’t remember the year, but it was round the release of Thickfreakness. Only a 2 piece, The Black Keys play loud and driving. The songs are so well written giving the band a bit of a timeless sound incorporating garage rock and blues. Danger Mouse again helps out with the production on “Brothers”. I’ve read that this album is a bit of a breakup album as the drummer recently went through a really difficult divorce. Songs like “Next Girl” and “I’m Not The One” give you an idea of the album’s overlying theme. Regardless of where you are at with your own relationship, this is going to be one of the albums of the summer. i can’t wait til my next BBQ where I will be playing this loud.

While supplies last, Interpunk has free posters with the order of “Brothers” which is being pressed as a double LP w/ Bonus CD.

You can listen to the album right now at Spinner. Check it out, so far, it is sounding pretty amazing.

And if you don’t own “Thickfreakness”, I highly encourage you to add that record to your collection. It is absolutely essential.

National – High Violet LP (180 Gram Vinyl)

The National’s new album is out this week and the response has been pretty insane. The album received an 8.7 in pitchfork. The vinyl from what it sounds like is nearly sold out of its first pressing (if you find it on colored vinyl, grab it), and while I missed it, the band just played Letterman. I have only give the album one spin so far and haven’t passed a verdict, but I plan to spend more time with it. For those of you who have heard it, what do you think?

High Violet, the new full-length record by the National, is a nervy, melodic, explosive and beautiful set of songs that find the band at the height of their collaborative powers. The music is wide-ranging in its moods, by turns intimate and rough, expansive and spare, full of stark angles and atmo¬sphere. Berninger’s singing—wild, half-broken, sly—evokes a feeling of being haunted, by love, by paranoia, by something just out of reach. High Violet may be The National’s most thematically twisted record to date but it somehow also manages to be their most infectious and immediate.

I find myself listening to the new album by Dead Weather which features Jack White from The White Stripes/Raconteurs, Alison Mosshart from Discount/The Kills, and members of Queens of the Stone Age and Raconteurs. I love the White Stripes. I love Discount. I like The Raconteurs. I like The Kills. I am not sure yet how I feel about Dead Weather. I gave the first album a few spins and just never returned. Upon initial listen, I am finding this album a lot more interesting, but I think that I would rather see a tour with the White Stripes and Discount. Can we make that happen? I would also find it interesting to do a family tree with members of The White Stripes and Discount. Anyone with way too much time on their hands to make this happen?

What do you think of the new Dead Weather album?

The new album is out now, it is available on 180 gram vinyl and if you get one while supplies last, you will get a free poster and button pack.
