Bad Astronaut “Acrophobe” LP (Set of all 4 Colors)

While I have been talking about this for quite some time, I am very proud to say that the pressing for Bad Astronaut’s “Acrophobe” is finally happening. I was really hoping to have them done in time for the Bad Astronaut shows in July, but unfortunately, that did not happen. I received the test pressings late last week and spent a lot of time with them over the weekend. The test pressings are approved and if all goes well, I will have finished records by the end of September. I will be sure to keep you posted.

The pressing info is as follows:

150 on transparent brown (whiskey coke colored vinyl, Vinyl Collective Exclusive)
250 on white vinyl (Hot Topic Exclusive Color)
300 on solid baby blue (light blue) (Joey Cape/Bad Astronaut exclusive color, available from Joey Cape)
300 on black vinyl (represses will be on black vinyl)

Before anyone freaks out about the exclusive colors and your ability or lack of ability to get each variant, I have worked it out with Joey and Hot Topic to offer 50 sets of all 4 colors through our store. But after those sets are sold out, the only way to get White is at Hot Topic and the only way to get Solid Baby Blue is from Joey Cape.

I will be offering a test pressing contest for all who pre-order the record; good luck. I am really honored to have something to do with this album. While I am planning on releasing the other Bad Astronaut records in the future, there is no timeline for when these will come out.

Murder by Death “Live” DVD (celebrating 10 years as a band)

Murder by Death are about to embark on a tour with Suburban Home artist, Ninja Gun. Before the tour starts though, the band will be releasing the next volume of their split 7″ series, this time with Sam Lowry (who we released a split 7″ w/, with William Elliott Whitmore’s Wayword Sons), and their first ever DVD spanning the first 10 years of their band.

Murder By Death describes the releases this way, “You can now preorder a copy of our first ever DVD! Its our way of celebrating 10 years of MBD. It features a 13 song set filmed from the 2009 Desert tour, plus a bunch of old videos from shows 2003-present. There are old photos, and a couple videos of us drunkenly messing around. Its really fun. There will be 2000 copies available. We are also releasing the next installment of the SEVEN SERIES- this time a split with our long-time Tour Manager/Merch Guy Dixie (who performs under the name Sam Lowry). It’ll be a benefit for our friends’ band O’Death, who have been having severe financial problems due to one of the members bout with bone cancer. Pick one of the 1000 copies up and help us help them out! ”

copies will ship to me on September 8th and I will more than likely get them after the Suburban Home 15th Anniversary weekend. If you’ve picked up the other splits in this series (w/ William Elliott Whitmore, w/ O’Death, w/ Amanda Palmer), you have to get this split. If you haven’t gotten any of these, this will be a good one to start with. This 7″ will sell out.

Alright, today, I bring you a pre-order for Justin Townes Eearle’s latest album, “Harlem River Blues”. I absolutely love this man’s entire catalog, I recommend his music and his life show to anyone who will listen, I am a super fan. I highly recommend checking out his latest album and while posting the pre-order for this record, I figured I would offer his other 2 albums which are back in print on vinyl. The Good Life is my absolute favorite of his, but Midnight at the Movies is superb, too. If you like honky tonk Country / Alt Country, Justin Townes Earle could you be your new favorite singer/songwriter. Listen to a few songs on his Myspace.

While supplies last, you will get a free Justin Townes Earle bandana with your order. I should be able to get enough bandanas so that every pre-order gets one. Click this link to see what the bandana looks like.

And your pre-order will enter you for a chance to win a test pressing of “The Good Life” as well as Justin’s first 2 albums. Good luck.

I should have records in hand around the middle of September.

Limited to 500, hand numbered on mixed color vinyl.

Previously sold on Chamberlain’s Tour with the Gaslight Anthem and Tim Barry. There are about 200 copies remaining.

I should the 7″s in by late next week and will ship them as soon as I get them. Get one while you can; I expect these will go quickly since Brian Fallon is on the b-side (and of course since this is the newest Chamberlain release in some time).

Red City Radio “To the Sons & Daughters of Woody Guthrie” LP

Our friends at Loose Charm are back with a brand new release, the 1 sided LP for Red City Radio, “The Sons & Daughters of Woody Guthrie”. While the EP came out earlier this year, Loose Charm are releasing the 5 song EP on wax. The pressing info is as follows:

100 on Gold Vinyl
400 on White Vinyl

As you can see from the photos, the b-side has been silk-screened. The records look really great. I will only have 50 of the Gold and 50 of the White so be sure you pre-order quickly. I imagine this release will sell out very quickly.

Have you heard this EP? These guys could quite possibly be my new, favorite punk band. The band are not only fantastic people who are really fun to drink/hang out with, but they absolutely and completely rock. They do gruff punk rock better than most and this EP will hopefully hold everyone over before they put out a brand new album on Paper and Plastick. This is recommended if you like Hot Water Music, Latterman, early Against Me, or much of what comes out on Kiss of Death and/or No Idea. I love this EP and am really excited to help out with the pre-order.

One lucky individual will win a set of both colors if you pre-order this record. Unfortunately all of the test pressings have already been promised. You might be wondering why I have decided to carry something that we haven’t put out. While I have no plans to carry everything like we used to, I do want to carry records I fucking love. I love this band and am sure most of you will too. I will be posting a stream sometime this week. Records are shipping to VC, we will be able to ship these almost immediately.

DRAG THE RIVER “Closed” LP

That’s right my friends, the long overdue vinyl pressing of Drag the River’s Closed is in production right now. I’m not really sure why it took us this long to put the album on vinyl, but it is happening. As a matter of fact, I received the test pressings late last week and the test pressings are approved. The 1,000 piece pressing will be pressed on 3 colors:

150 on Whiskey Coke colored vinyl (special 15th Anniversary color)
400 on Gold vinyl
450 on Black vinyl (all future pressing will be on black vinyl)

I originally planned to press a number of our records and repressed records on Whiskey Coke colored vinyl for our 15th Anniversary weekend, but being that vinyl always takes forever, we will just offer these special edition records for sale on our website. Expect each edition to go fast. We think that there is a good chance that the vinyl will be done in time for our 15th Anniversary weekend but you never know.

Depending on the day, this is my favorite Drag the River album. The album features so many great songs like “Medicine”, “Get Drunk”, “Calloused Heart”, “Forgiveness”, and so many more. If you haven’t heard the album in a while, take a listen to this full album stream.

Records should be in and ready to ship by mid September at the latest, there is a test pressing contest for all who pre-order the album. Good luck.

While I was later than most when it came to Bear Vs Shark, I think “Terrorhawk” is one of those albums that never got the attention it deserved. I guess it didn’t help things that the band broke up while supporting that album. While, I am bummed I never got to see Bear Vs Shark play, I am glad to see that the vocalist of BvsS is continuing to rock with his latest endeavor, Bars of Gold. Friction Records has a pre-order up right now for Bars of Gold’s debut LP which they are pressing on translucent green and translucent orange vinyl. They typically press equal numbers of each color.

You can stream the album on Punknews. While I have only listened to the album once, I think the record has a lot of promise. The band is a lot different than Bear Vs Shark in their arrangements, but the vocals are reminiscent of BvsS. I highly recommend checking out the stream.

Friction says the album will be done by August 24th and they have an album release show on September 11th at Founders (a fucking killer brewery). Wish I could be there. Bars of Gold, make it out to Denver.

TIN HORN PRAYER: ‘Get Busy Dying’ CD

I had meant to post this last week, but better late than never. Tin Horn Prayer is the band that features Mike Herrera (vocalist of Blackout Pact), Andy Thomas (Only Thunder, Ghost Buffalo, Suburban Home/VC), and Scooter (vocalist of Pinhead Circus/Love Me Destroyer). Instead of calling them a super group (whatever the fuck that means), I choose to think of them as a bunch of guys who write great music and while they get lumped into the Americana/Alt-Country thing, I think of them as just a great rock band. Whatever you want to call what they do, the band is great; the album is amazing; and I really hope that someone decides to put it out on vinyl. I recommend checking out this album. You can listen to 3 songs on their Myspace page.

Here is what Bermuda Mohawk says of the album:
“Debut release from the newest Denver, CO supergroup, featuring members of The Blackout Pact, Only Thunder, Love Me Destroyer, Pinhead Circus and Ghost Buffalo. The album contains 10 off-kilter, whiskey soaked ramblers that are reminscent of what it would sound like if Uncle Tupelo, Tom Waits and The Blackout Pact got into a barfight. The Lucero comparisons are inevitable, however the members can’t help but let some of their post-punk roots shine through with angular guitar playing and noisy flourishes throughout. If you are a fan of punk, post-punk, alt-country or americana, this is worth a listen for consideration on your ‘Best of 2010′ list.”

We’ve put a their songs on the last couple of mix tapes. Check those tunes out and then pick up this album!
