Sorry it has taken me so long to announce these winners. December was about as insane a month as I have ever had and I just didn’t get to all the things I needed to get to. Here are the winners of the test pressings for the Playing Favorites, Black Cross, and Bomb the Music Industry! / O Pioneers split.
Here are a handful of restocks we got in during our downtime. Pay attention to the colored vinyl of the NOFX/Rancid, Leatherface/Hot Water Music, Anti-flag/Bouncing Souls, and the Briefs. These always sell out whenever we post them. Also note the Battlefields vinyl which sold out in days when we first got them. Lastly, note that we got a small number of Minus the Bear “Menos El Oso” and they will go fast. Same goes for the Russian Circles 7″s and Elliott Smith singles.
The latest album from Chinese Telephones is now out on both clear and black vinyl. The good folks at It’s Alive Records have released this album and also been kind enough to offer us a test pressing for a test pressing contest. We got a really small number of the clear vinyl so be warned that these will not last long. Everyone who orders the record will be entred to win a test pressing, one of only 5!
The latest album from Juliette & the Licks will soon be coming out on vinyl through the nice folks at Vinyl Summer. 250 pressed on pink, 250 pressed on sea foam green vinyl, we will have copies towards the end of January. I have yet to listen to much from Miss Juliette, but I just can’t help but think of Juliette’s roles in Natural Born Killers and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
The debut release from I hate rock n roll records is this really pretty split between Darker My Love and Moccasin. Not sure how many were pressed or on what colors, these ones happen to be on black vinyl.
We are proud to carry “Turning Failure Into Ideology”, a novel by Brian Polk. Brian is a good buddy of mine and former drummer of Ghost Buffalo. Here is a description of the book:
How is a 26-year-old penniless writer supposed to interpret his alleged shortcomings if he doesn’t feel like a failure? In Turning Failure Into Ideology, Eli Indignation refuses to let society assess his creative endeavors—regardless of the income they generate, which is nil. And if that weren’t “un-American” enough, he’s also ruined every relationship he’s ever had, hated every job he’s ever worked, and made over 20 issues of a zine nobody’s ever read. But who’s to say he isn’t successful? If Eli can’t be bothered by traditional measurements of prosperity—luxury cars, huge houses, and corporate careers—then he’s free to blaze his own path to success. But of course, there are obstacles to overcome; there always are.
A good friend of mine had told me that this label, Goodfriends Records were putting out a 7″ for the band Fake Problems. Being a big fan of their Sabot releases, I was excited to try and carry this release for Vinyl Collective. I wrote the label explaining my interest in the release and Casey from Goodfriends got right back to me. I told him I was a big fan of Fake Problems and that I would love to carry the record for the store. As chance would have it, Casey is not only releasing the 7″, but he is also in the band. Our exchanges of emails lead to me bringing up a series of split 7″s I am working on and I asked if they would be into doing one. He said they would and that they would love to do it with their pals, Look Mexico. So if all goes well, look for this split 7″ sometime in 2008.
Now back to this new 7″ by Fake Problems. The release is limited to a pressing of 1,000 copies:
100 black
100 black / silver swirl
800 silver
We are offering a small number of sets of all 3 colors where the band will sign one of the covers. Make sure you pick up a copy before they are all gone! Thanks Casey and Goodfriends for letting us do this pre-order.
This is a pre-order, copies won’t ship til February 2008.
So late last night, UPS came knocking on my door and what did they bring? Lots of good stuff. Pay close attention to the Defiance, Ohio records we just got in which includes their new album as well as a couple of back-catalog items. Note also that we now are carrying the other Casket Lotter records which I figured might be of interest to some of you since we have sold so many of the double LP Possibles and Maybes. I want to also point out that I was short-shipped on the Teenage Bottlerocket “Total” LP which could be close to history. Got some more Alkaline Trio / Hot Water Music picture discs which went really fast last time. Seriously take a long look at this list as there are so many rad records. I know that some of you are vowing not to spend any more on records before Xmas, but I figured some of these might interest you if you end up getting a few bucks from family and/or a gift certificate to vinyl collective.
Just got word from our distributor that Trash Art has repressed “One” by Cursed. The pressing on grey vinyl is of a 500 copy repress. This record has been out of stock for a while so make sure you jump on this one.
Friends, I am really excited to be announcing this pre-order. We are working with the very nice Endless Quest Records to bring you this pre-order of the 27 import. Not only have they been so kind to offer us a few copies on the green glitter vinyl (only 105 pressed), they are giving us 2 test pressings (one rejected/one approved) for a test pressing contest. As you can see from the above image and the ones below this is one beautiful release. And the only other way to get this release is by paying for overseas freight. We will have these towards the end of January and will announce the test pressing contest winner then, too. Get these while you can because I am getting only a small number of each color.
